His figure retreated rapidly until he was out of the battle circle. Looking at the rusted long knife in his hand and the expanding rust spots on his left wrist, Pei Yan’s expression was shocked, with cold sweat streaming down. It seemed he had underestimated the opponent. He had enemies with seemingly bizarre attack methods, but didn’t Demons have them too?
The person who had just ambushed him had actually reached out, grabbed his longsword steadily with one hand, and clutching his wrist with the other, and then the essence spread over the longsword disintegrated, causing the surface of the longsword and wrist to begin rusting.
Pei Yan was aware of the anticorrosion of his absorbed materials, so such large-scale corrosion violating common sense could only mean the opponent had used magic far beyond scientific reasoning. Even when the enemy’s hands left his body, the rust condition continued to spread, forcing him to decisively sever his mechanical left arm for self-preservation.
Watching the mechanical arm turn into a trace of iron dust in the air after leaving his body, Pei Yan’s face grew even uglier. Luckily it was an arm he had already lost once. But what if this enemy’s move impacted other parts of his body? Would such corrosion affect him after de-mechanization?
Reflecting on this, he glanced again at Raphael lingering at the edge of the sanctuary. It had been over ten minutes; he couldn’t delay any longer. Time to bring out his final ace hidden up his sleeve.
Just as he made this decision, other demons had surrounded him once more. Seeing the earlier attack’s effective result on Pei Yan, confidence returned to these people. Pei Yan was no longer invincible.
"Continue close-quarter attacks, seize the opportunity to use the corrosion magic on him!" After someone issued the order, cheers erupted from the crowd as everyone attacked Pei Yan together. At this moment, four beams of light appeared in the sky, encircling Pei Yan in the center.
"Not good! Watch out for vaporization attacks!" Remembering Pei Yan’s frightening strike and feeling uneasy, the crowd exclaimed and began to vaporize to evade. However, no beams shot out from the light curtain; instead, large amounts of white mist emanated from Pei Yan’s surroundings and soon enveloped the entire battlefield.
There were no screams, no cries—one figure after another fell from the air. Some intact individuals shattered like glass upon hitting the ground, while many still in a vaporized state fell like rain and disintegrated upon reaching the earth.
Liquid nitrogen, the third stored gas Pei Yan had brought, and nitrogen—the gas manipulator, purposely absorbed over ten refrigerators to enhance the effect. When boundless liquid nitrogen spread out and vaporized, it instantly encased the unwary, vaporized demons, freezing many into ice sculptures.
Silence, dead silence. People watched, silently, as Pei Yan, resembling a demon head, descended from the sky, as he walked slowly through the town. The street sides emptied people held their breath, to clear a path for him.
This was submission to might—Pei Yan’s attack truly shook their souls. It wasn’t cowardice nor the absence of bravery, but true inability. The demon race certainly had beings stronger than Pei Yan, yet they were not present in this town, in this sanctuary consisting predominantly of stragglers and refugees; those who faced Pei Yan were already the cream of this crop.
"What are you afraid of!? Is it the pride of the demons!? You cowards! Can’t you see he’s exhausted!? He can’t wield strong attacks like in his confrontation with Raphael anymore. If we don’t kill him now, the chance will never come again!" Roared Logan, burned and blackened, wobbling as he stood, addressing the indifferent crowd on the street.
"Calm down, Logan. We lost! We are not his match." Byrd, clutching his stomach wound while leaning against a wall, looked at the frenzied Logan bitterly.
"No, we didn’t lose! It’s just you’re too weak! Too weak to have lost your home, too weak to have lost your dignity!" Logan shouted, holding a longsword, wobbling towards Pei Yan and yelled, "Hey, foreigner! Your enemies aren’t all dead! I’m still alive!"
Upon hearing this, Pei Yan halted, slowly turned, and said coldly, "Your constitution is truly remarkable, still so spirited after such explosive attacks. I admire your courage and am willing to call you the strongest here. In respect, I’ll deliver my strongest strike to end your life."
"Then it is indeed my honor! Come on!" Logan responded loudly, as he gripped the sword, his eyes bloodshot.
Raising his right hand, the light curtain lit up, the previously prepared electromagnetic cannon was ready to fire upon Pei Yan’s command. With a booming roar, the projectile propelled by electromagnetic forces shot out swiftly, tearing through the air, generating powerful shockwaves, shattering the buildings on both sides of the street. Nearby onlookers were sent flying, gravely wounded, bleeding from every orifice. The projectile gouged a trench from the ground before accurately striking Logan, who stood firmly in place.
A deafening explosion echoed through the town. After the smoke dispersed, the town lay in ruins. Nobody looked at the giant crater because they knew Logan, who bore the brunt, had no chance of surviving. All eyes gazed reverently at Pei Yan, who was leaving for the town’s outskirts. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Raphael truly regretted his actions—he now understood the meaning of "lifting a stone to drop it on one’s foot". To prevent Pei Yan from escaping, upon his entry into the sanctuary, he imposed a space lock. Undoing this was much more cumbersome than implementing it. Retreating to the town’s edge, he frantically manipulated the chest astral plate to unlock the space lock while observing the town’s combat scenario.
Perhaps his journey had been overwhelmingly smooth; his luck finally ran dry. Or perhaps he had performed too many actions against the Demon God’s wishes. When he saw Pei Yan appear in his sight, he realized he seemed abandoned by both heaven and the Demon God.
"Stop him! Quickly stop him! I’m about to unlock the space lock!" Raphael screamed in panic, shock plastered across his face—how could an entire town not halt him?
Faced with Sifuer and his group blocking his way, Pei Yan, addicted to putting on airs, loosened the corner part of his mask, extracted a cigarette from the spatial ring, stuck it in his mouth, lit it, inhaled deeply, slowly exhaled a circle of smoke, and looked arrogantly into Sifuer’s eyes.
Seeing the fear in the opponent’s eyes and their trembling bodies, Pei Yan felt a rush of exhilaration that made him admit the feeling of putting on airs was truly delightful!
"Mr. Shitang, I believe there’s some misunderstanding between us. We can have a proper talk; there’s no need to escalate things to this extent," Sifuer took a deep breath and courageously responded.
