35 -31: Competition_1

When Luo’er won, Luo Qishan was still sitting in his office, cradling a cup of hot tea, continuously sighing.

He had anticipated that Luo’er would participate in the competition, but he didn’t expect him to make it to the finals.

Because the mission time was urgent, headquarters tried to compress the competition time as much as possible to ensure they could quickly select the Advance Team members for the mission.

As a result, in those two days Luo Qishan barely had time to react, Luo’er and his team had already fought their way into the final championship rounds.

Next, if Luo’er and his team beat the current team, they’ll clinch the championship and earn the qualification to go to the Otherworld.

This was the last thing Luo Qishan wanted to see.

Ever since Luo Chuan disappeared in the Otherworld, he had been filled with fear for that unknown land.

He was terrified that his only grandson would follow in his father’s footsteps and ultimately die on the soil of a foreign Otherworld.

The office door was duly knocked upon, and Wang Xu arrived with some paperwork.

Despite being in the age of digital information, Luo Qishan still preferred Wang Xu to deliver paper documents.

On the one hand, he was accustomed to this mode of communication; on the other hand, he hoped that this former guard would often come to visit him.

“Principal, Luo’er has reached the finals.” Dropping the paperwork onto the desk, Wang Xu couldn’t help but say.

“I’ve seen that.” Luo Qishan replied, heavily sighing.

He placed his hot tea on the table, without the mood to look at the paperwork on the table.

He held his head in silence for a long time, then suddenly asked: “Wang Xu, is there a way to make him lose the match?”

“Principal, we really shouldn’t do that, it’s a violation of rules, besides…” Wang Xu hesitated for a moment, then continued, “Luo’er will be angry!”

“I know, but I really don’t want him going to that damned place!” Luo Qishan exclaimed, burying his face in his hands.

Only in front of Wang Xu could Luo Qishan speak his inner thoughts.

“Also, there’s another thing,” Wang Xu hesitated for a while, then slowly said, “According to a staff assignment from headquarters, I’ll be transferred to another place soon and will no longer serve as the military instructor for Haiya Academy.”

“Where are they sending you?” Luo Qishan was taken aback and asked subconsciously.

“That’s classified military information, Principal!” Wang Xu reminded him.

“I’m sorry.” Luo Qishan’s expression suddenly darkened.

He knew he was retired now, no longer authorised to be in the know.

But the idea of his long-standing companion Wang Xu leaving made his heart tighten.

“Regardless, I must prevent Luo’er from qualifying, even if I have to use some underhanded methods!” Luo Qishan emphatically said, with no regard for Wang Xu’s presence.

“I see, I won’t have knowledge of today’s events, but…” Wang Xu sighed, “I hope the Principal will think twice for both your and Luo’er’s sake.”

“Tomorrow is the final, as long as we clinch victory, we can go to the Otherworld!” Exiting the Virtual Machine Room, Tangmo bounced ahead excitedly, still giving off an innocent and carefree vibe.

“In that case, let’s have a good meal tonight!” Hu Daoke nodded in agreement.

“I want to go eat at Luo’er’s house!” Tangmo loudly suggested.

“Isn’t it a bit much to always go to Luo’er’s place?” Hu Daoke asked, seeking Luo’er’s opinion.

“It’s fine, I welcome you guys to my house.

As long as you’re willing to come, I can cook whatever you guys want.” Luo’er waved his hands and seriously said.

“We can’t impose that much!” Hu Daoke joyfully slapped Luo’er’s thin shoulder and beamed, “With your permission, from now on you’re my big brother!”

“Oh no, I couldn’t possibly,” Luo’er blushed with an awkward smile, Hu Daoke’s generous pat left his shoulders aching a bit.

The longer the group spent time together, Luo’er’s temperament became increasingly easygoing—a stark contrast from the fiery temper he used to have.

However, his aloof demeanor when facing strangers still showed traces of his old self.

“Luo’er, I want to eat sweet and sour pork ribs!” Tangmo pouted like a spoilt child.

“Of course,” Luo’er nodded and then said to everyone.

“Tell me what you all want to eat, later I’ll go look in the cafeteria’s kitchen for the ingredients.”

“You should know what I want!” Cheng Ziang said faintly.

“Huh?” Luo’er blinked in surprise, followed by a nod.

“I got it!”

“Oh, when it comes to food you’re suddenly not so aloof, eh?” Hu Daoke teased from the side.

He loved to provoke Cheng Ziang whenever he could.

“I unlike some people, can’t fill my stomach even after eating more than half of the food in the pot!” Cheng Ziang grumbled contemptuously.

“It’s okay, I’ll just cook more!” Seeing the two about to argue again, Luo’er quickly stepped in to pacify them.

“Blah, blah, blah!!!” Hu Daoke, a robust and uncultured man, teasingly stuck out his tongue at him like a child.

Seeing his contrasting cute behavior, Cheng Ziang felt weirdly uneasy.

“Speaking of which, that guy today really made us uncomfortable!” Hu Daoke suddenly stated earnestly.

Everyone fell silent, the hunter squad’s Zhuanzhu, though formidable, was arrogant, and bringing him down wouldn’t be hard.

What worried Luo’er most was their captain, a half-breed Blaiqi person named Murong.

Judging from all his actions, Luo’er had every reason to believe that he was the most threatening and the core of the entire team.

“Are you okay, Yue’er?” Hu Daoke turned his head and asked Baiyue with concern.

Baiyue was at the back of the group.

When she heard him, she lowered her head, held her hat, and shook her head but didn’t speak.

After such a long time of acclimatization, Baiyue was finally willing to respond to someone other than Luo’er.

Tomorrow’s final will be a best-of-three contest, and the team that wins the crown will become the Advance Team, obtaining the qualifications to enter the Otherworld.

Frankly, though time is urgent, Luo’er still felt the competition was somewhat hasty, with the members of the Advance Team selected just based on wins in a few matches.

Most matches were single-round victories, and the final was a best-of-three.

Such a competition had many variables and couldn’t guarantee the quality of the Advance Team.

Although Luo’er didn’t know what the headquarters were planning, he knew that this was a perfect opportunity to enter the Otherworld.

If he missed this chance, he would continue to be imprisoned in the academy, bearing the so-called familial love from Luo Qishan.

Regardless, he must strive with all his might to earn the qualifications to go to the Otherworld.

Although he was unsure of his own future after arriving in the Otherworld, as well as his teammates’, Luo’er knew that as long as he could reach the Otherworld—even if he continued to serve the headquarters—he would have opportunities to find his mother.

“What’s wrong, Luo’er, you look so serious?” Noticing Luo’er’s expression, Tangmo came over, looked up at him, and asked with concern.

“Nothing, just that I feel guilty about you guys being dragged into this due to me if we go into the Otherworld…” Before Luo’er could finish, his mouth was covered by Tangmo’s small hand.

“Don’t talk like that.

I’ve already told you I’m willing to go to the Otherworld with you.” Tangmo said earnestly, looking him in the eye.

Luo’er’s eyes were still dim.

He removed Tangmo’s small hand, and with a guilty feel said, “It’s because of me that you guys are in this world, dealing with the pressure brought on by the identities that should not have been yours.”

“Well, we shouldn’t talk like that!” Hu Daoke came over, slapped him on the back and proclaimed, “If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be in this world.

In a way, we owe you a debt of gratitude!”

“A benefactor, huh?” Luo’er bitterly smiled.

“Although we know we were created to serve a war, coming into this world is a stroke of luck itself.

Luo’er, it’s because of you that we received the gift of life and are here!” Tangmo remarked, surprisingly serious for her laid-back demeanor.

“After listening to you, I feel somewhat embarrassed.” Luo’er scratched his head and broke out in laughter.

“Excuse my interruption, don’t discuss such things publicly.

It could lead to trouble!” Cheng Ziang, not joining their emotionally charged conversation, warned pragmatically.

“I’m sorry!” Luo’er apologized, nodding his head.

“Well, folks, let’s give it our all for the Otherworld!” Luo’er stretched his hand out, hoping his comrades would join in a spirit-rousing cheer.

They placed their hands on top of his, one after another.

“We were frogs at the bottom of a well, only gazing at a limited sky.

Now we are about to soar up as birds, flying freely through the endless sky.

Regardless of what lies ahead, let’s clinch this victory and break free from this well—that’s our prison.

If there’s no place for us on Earth, then the Otherworld will be our stage!” Luo’er exclaimed spiritedly.

“Come on!” Hu Daoke bellowed.

“Let’s do this!” The others chorused.

“What’s all the fuss about?” Just when their spirits were at their peak, they heard a familiar voice from behind.

As they turned around, they saw it was Zhuyan Yu.

She still wore a white lab coat, frameless glasses, her hair simply tied in a ponytail, looking at them with a slight smile.

She moved so lightly and slowly, that they hadn’t noticed her approaching.

“Teacher, we’ve made it to the finals!” Seeing Zhuyan Yu, Tangmo rushed to hug her excitedly.

“Little Momo, come down.

The teacher can’t hold you!” Zhuyan Yu, with a wry smile, replied.

Although she came mostly to check on Luo’er, she’d overheard their earlier passionate conversation and hoped to gather more information about Luo’er.
