Otaku Witch-Chapter 1515 - 817: Annie’s Past 2
"Alright, as long as my little sister is protected by her big sister, that’s my duty and her privilege."
Dorothy reached out to touch the head of her occasionally too-sensible little sister, and said as if it was taken for granted.
"But speaking of which, how is Annie doing now? She’s not the type to swallow her pride, is she?"
The homebody witch thought of her quick-tempered stepmother and felt puzzled once again.
Her stepmother is also a genuine Title-level Sorceress and not just a door-guarding kind, but someone like Spider Teacher or Aunt Miko who could wait in line for promotion to Peak status.
But she is busy showcasing her love with Adam every day, having retired from the battlefield; naturally, she’s too lazy to pursue promotions. Women in love see only their beloved, with no mind for career.
But with her strength there, and her protective nature, how could anyone dare to bully them in this Vampire Clan Estate?
Dorothy recalled what Peak Hermes had said about the sacrificial ritual and felt a bit nervous; could the vampires have acted early? Could it be that Stepmother and Adam are already being controlled?
It couldn’t be, after all, they recently saw Stepmother and Adam lovingly shopping together.
When she heard her sister asking this, Alice scratched her face, a bit awkward.
"Actually, Mom has always felt guilty towards the family, as back then, she was the one who ran away."
The little witch led the way and recounted the past to Dorothy and Ruthfiel.
Annie, originally named Lilith, was a Vampire Clan Witch and the third young lady of the Dracula Family, the leader of the Thirteen Clans, almost becoming the Mistress of Dracula Family.
In her youth, Annie was a shining star eagerly anticipated by the entire Thirteen Vampire Clan Families. Her talent was extraordinary, her power formidable, akin to the Mother Dragon’s role in the Yemengade Clan— a hope for making the vampires great again.
But Annie was a bit rebellious in her youth; she fell in love with Hatti Fenrir, a member of the Werewolf Witch Clan, the vampires’ arch-enemy.
The two, originally sworn enemies, met and fell in love on the battlefield, creating a notable reputation as the "Blood Moon Twins."
However, this relationship was not blessed by either family, and thus, a vampire and werewolf version of Romeo and Juliet was played out.
Their love indeed succumbed to reality; they ultimately couldn’t withstand the pressure from their respective families and broke up.
This breakup shook Annie’s loyalty to her family. Coupled with subsequent circumstances, she discovered some secrets and, in fury, broke ties with her family and left.
"Actually, Mom was impulsive back then. After calming down these years, she realized she should have inherited the family Mistress position from Grandma. But she abandoned her family responsibilities and left, feeling regretful and guilty. That’s why she returned to visit this time."
Alice sighed and said.
Dorothy: "......"
Wow... Hearing about Stepmother’s past, the homebody witch was somewhat amazed, not expecting that Annie had such a theatrical history.
Moreover, Little Alice didn’t know why Annie broke with the family back then, but the homebody witch knew; she heard Hermes mention it last time, that Annie found out she was merely a vessel for resurrecting the Ancestor.
So, the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families somewhat seemed wronged; based on Alice’s description, they intended to cultivate Annie wholeheartedly, not fully treating her as a sacrifice. Otherwise, her grandmother wouldn’t have almost let Annie inherit her position.
But who would have thought, despite carrying the hope of the vampires, Annie got lost in trivial affections instead of focusing on family revival like the Mother Dragon.
Moreover, she chose to love a werewolf witch, the arch-enemy of the vampire witches.
Dorothy recalled the story she heard about Phantom Thief Jack.
Phantom Thief Jack tossed a stolen True Ancestor Blood Gem to a dog-witch among the crowd, thus the first Werewolf Witch was born.
The subsequent Werewolf Witch allied with other oppressed Demon Witches and ended the vampires’ rule over the City of Sin.
This is an actual blood feud.
The vampires and werewolves have fought for tens of thousands of years, with no sign of reconciliation; a vampire witch and a werewolf witch meeting almost guarantees a fight.
How Annie managed to fall in love with Miss Hatti back then is a mystery; was it a classic tale of love and conflict?
Dorothy was quite curious, intrigued by the drama.
Yet, she understood why Stepmother’s bad temper endured quietly this time; she was probably truly remorseful.
The homebody witch also thought of the Mother Dragon.
Having not grown up amidst the Yemengade Family, without much familial benefit and nurturing, she initially told the Mother Dragon she didn’t want to inherit the family.
Nonetheless, she feels guilty towards the Mother Dragon, who gave birth to her solely for a successor, and she ran away, feeling apologetic for the Mother’s five-year pregnancy struggle.
If she, never receiving much family benefit as a wild little witch, feels this way, then Annie, growing up purely in the Thirteen Clans of Vampires, must feel even more so.
Even though Dorothy knows her Stepmother is technically the reincarnation of the True Ancestor, which makes the vampires her subordinates, Annie herself lacks memories from countless past lives.
She probably initially carried the family’s revival as her burden, like the Mother Dragon, being dutifully loyal. But eventually, she personally betrayed the family she once valued above all, an inescapable guilt.
If the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families truly treated her harshly as a mere sacrifice, betrayal might be an easier choice; but they sincerely nurtured her, while she messed up on her own...
No wonder the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families have now gone mad trying to rebel; their previous correct attempt declared a failure, losing their stakes entirely, without the capital to try the orthodox approach again.
But who is to blame?
In the choice between the individual and the family, Annie chose herself.
Dorothy also chose herself, understanding that mindset somewhat.
People believe they should have the right to decide their own lives, not seen as tools.
The homebody witch firmly believed so.
But the family seemed even more unfortunate, betting everything completely, resulting in bankruptcy; a seeming injustice.
So who was truly at fault?
Ah, it’s simply a cursed fate.
Dorothy, sinking into the Stepmother’s past, felt her head aching, overwhelmed with guilt.
Perhaps one could learn from a certain lotus-root entity by cutting flesh and returning it to the mother, removing bones and returning it to the father for some liberty. But this Witch World won’t have a god suddenly appearing to reshape your lotus-root-like Golden Body.
Common witches dying truly means True Death, as opposed to Underworld resurrection...
Emmmm... The vampires hold minor power in the Underworld because Red Moon Sage Lilith was among the Underworld System founders, and vampires are considered outsourced Underworld staff, with resurrection services offered at the Vampire Clan Hospital.
One couldn’t possibly commit suicide to repay a life debt, then come back resurrected by parents.....
Sigh, how troubling, it seems there are just two solutions to this.
One is ruthless, directly obliterating the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families. Unable to solve the root problem, solve the people causing it.
But given Stepmother’s leftover affection for the family, if one obliterated it like addressing the Angel Witch Ancestral Court, Dorothy feels she might never return home, with Annie refusing her entry as a clan exterminator forever.
The second solution is truly solving the problem, finding a resolution for the True Ancestor’s Blood, crafting a way for the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families to cease dwindling.
However, resolving the age-old problem haunting the Thirteen Vampire Clan Families isn’t easy; impossible for them over thousands of years, not easily solved.
Quite troublesome, such a headache.
....homebody witch in distress....
