Chapter 666: Protect Jay!

"Good."

After hearing what Jay said, Ryuunosuke did not add anything. He simply nodded.

"Mr. Jay, what do we do next?" Ryuunosuke asked.

At this point, the situation could no longer be settled with a few polite compromises.

And with what Jay had just done, Ryuunosuke understood something clearly.

This was more serious than he had imagined.

At the very least, it had reached the point where Jay had lost his composure.

Based on Ryuunosuke’s understanding of the first generation, Jay would never do something like that unless the situation had pushed him to the edge.

"Now we wait for your crew to arrive," Jay said evenly.

"As for what comes next... I don’t think I need to spell it out."

Ryuunosuke nodded again, but did not press further.

If certain things were exposed right now, it would not benefit him.

At least for the moment, Ryuunosuke was not prepared to confront Jay head on.

Lost in thought, he walked toward the beach.

Greedwach still looked ordinary, yet the very ordinary nature of it felt abnormal.

An island like this staying hidden for so many years was hard to believe.

Thinking back, the Guardians were either passersby or selected individuals.

Ryuunosuke could not stop thinking about what Lilith had been about to say.

The words she did not get to finish were likely the key.

And Jay had cut her off.

That mattered.

Jay had not attacked the moment he arrived.

He had listened for a long time.

Only when he saw Ryuunosuke seriously considering Lilith’s offer did he strike.

Which meant the next thing Lilith was going to say must have touched Jay’s interests.

That was the part Ryuunosuke cared about most.

...

"Captain."

Meliodas arrived at Ryuunosuke’s side.

"Is it over?" Ryuunosuke asked quietly.

"There are still a few putting up resistance, but they’re no longer a threat," Meliodas replied.

"These Guardians are fundamentally different from the ones we fought before."

"It feels wrong."

"There are problems, yes," Ryuunosuke said.

Then he looked at Meliodas and asked directly, "Tell me. What do you think the biggest problem is?"

Meliodas was not the fool he pretended to be.

He had been the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the captain of the Ten Commandments.

A man like that was never simple.

Most of the time, the carefree act was a mask.

A way to smother the violence inside him.

"The Guardians are probably all here to protect Lilith," Meliodas said.

"With their strength, they could dominate most of the seas."

"But it’s not enough to face the Evictors, and it’s not enough to face us."

He paused, eyes narrowing.

"So there’s a high chance they were sent out as tools."

"Tools for you, Captain, to vent your anger."

"A stress relief tool?" Ryuunosuke repeated, amused. "Interesting phrasing."

He turned his gaze back to the sea.

"Let’s wait. We’ll talk after the others arrive."

Lilith’s move matched Meliodas’s reasoning. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

If these Guardians were thrown out to be crushed, then Ryuunosuke’s anger would be bled off.

After that, negotiations might actually become possible.

Because if Lilith had tried to speak from the beginning, Ryuunosuke would never have given her the chance.

The method was not brilliant.

But it was effective.

It had worked on him.

...

Soon, the rest of the Dragon Hunter Pirates arrived.

The Ark of Eternity also docked beside the island.

Nothing unexpected happened during the battle.

"Big brother! Is this the Guardians’ island?" Luffy charged forward, as reckless as ever, staring at the land like it was already his.

"Should we make this island disappear?"

"Should we go beat up that Lilith right now?"

If Nami had not held him back, he would have sprinted straight into the forest.

"Luffy. Sabo." Ryuunosuke’s voice cut cleanly through the noise.

"You two come with me."

"The rest of you stay here and wait."

He smiled as he continued, but the message was sharp.

"Also, Mr. Jay is currently in a soul state. He’s extremely vulnerable."

"You must protect Mr. Jay."

Gowther raised his hand immediately, smiling like this was the most reasonable thing in the world.

"Captain, we’ll handle it."

"I specialize in soul destruction. If anyone tries soul techniques against Mr. Jay, I’ll act."

"Also, Captain, give me some life essence so I can stay in peak condition for a long time."

"Alright," Ryuunosuke said, still smiling.

"I’ll leave things here to all of you."

"We cannot let anything happen to Mr. Jay. He’s our trump card."

With that, Ryuunosuke led Sabo and Luffy toward the forest.

"Captain Ryuunosuke, are you going to...?" Jay appeared in front of him at that moment, stepping in smoothly.

Ryuunosuke turned back, expression unchanged.

"Mr. Jay, is there anything you want to tell me? Or anything I should watch out for?"

"It’s fine," Jay said, waving a hand. "Just be careful."

"Understood."

Ryuunosuke nodded once.

"And Mr. Jay, you be careful here too."

"None of us know what these Guardians and Evictors will do for their beliefs."

He looked over the crew, voice firm.

"Everyone, stay alert. Do not ignore anything suspicious."

Then he took Sabo and Luffy and vanished into the forest, disappearing from everyone’s sight.

After Ryuunosuke left, Jay’s body shifted, clearly intending to follow.

"Mr. Jay."

Gowther stepped in with a gentle smile.

"The captain told us to protect you."

"I hope you won’t act on your own."

As he spoke, he drew the longbow in his hand to full draw.

The threat was quiet, but absolute.

Gowther was not an idiot.

Ryuunosuke’s meaning was clear. Combined with what the captain had said earlier, it was even clearer.

Jay was not allowed to leave.

"He asked you to protect me," Jay said, expression tightening, "not restrict me."

"There are too many unknown dangers here," Gowther replied, still smiling.

"Our job is to protect you."

"I hope you won’t make this difficult for us, Mr. Jay."

Jay’s face twisted with irritation.

In the end, he turned around and returned to the Ark of Eternity without making another move.

"Captain Ryuunosuke... you really are something," Jay muttered as he sat on the deck.

"I just hope you don’t end up in the situation I least want to see."

No one responded.

The crew shifted into two modes immediately.

Half began drinking and joking as if they were at a banquet.

The other half trained in silence, maintaining peak combat readiness.
