One Piece: I'm Destined to Be the Son-in-Law King!-Chapter 154: Incentives and Threats
Chapter 154 - Incentives and Threats
Three days had passed, and the scene was the ocean surrounding Wano Country.
A pirate ship and a warship sailed one after the other. It seemed like a chase, but the warship kept a good distance, not firing any cannons.
The Spade Pirates appeared defeated. They knew they couldn't escape "Black Hair" Roya, who was following them relentlessly, so they simply stopped trying.
Let him follow if he wants to.
Inside the ship's small hospital room, Ace woke up. He stared at the familiar ceiling, his hand clenching into a fist.
"Damn it, I lost again!" he thought angrily.
Losing to Roya was one thing; he could find excuses for that. In a real fight to the death, he believed he wouldn't be defeated so easily.
But this time, he lost to Kaido's daughter...
Ace remembered the image of Yamato's Wolf Fang Club weapon flashing with dark lightning.
I couldn't even dodge that move!
The door creaked open.
A crewmate, Deuce, entered.
Seeing Ace awake, Deuce's face brightened. "Ace, you're finally awake!"
"Sorry for worrying you," Ace said, forcing a weak smile.
He understood now that with his current strength, he couldn't even dream of challenging the Four Emperors. He probably wouldn't even get close to them.
If this keeps up, I'll only drag my crew down with me.
"Deuce, am I really that useless?" Ace asked, his voice full of doubt.

"That's not true!" Deuce said quickly, seeing Ace's despair. He knew the constant defeats were weighing heavily on Ace.
The truth was, the entire crew was worried. The New World was far more dangerous than they could handle, and they'd only survived this long because Ace kept pushing forward.
But no one knew how long Ace could keep going. Black Hair and Kaido's daughter didn't seem to want to hurt them, but not all enemies would be so kind. Our luck can't last forever.
Deuce pushed down his worries and tried to encourage Ace. "Don't think like that, Ace! You're Fire Fist Ace, the famous pirate! Even the Marines invited you to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. We all believe you can become the Pirate King!"
"Thanks," Ace said, trying to sound more confident.
It's just a few setbacks. I can't give up now.
"Oh, right, Ace," Deuce remembered Roya's message. "Black Hair wants to see you when you wake up. He said it's important."
"Important?" Ace frowned. He knew it had to be about the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
I really don't want to become one of them.
Deuce shook his head. "I don't know what it is, but Black Hair's warship is right behind us. You should probably go."
If you don't, Black Hair will come here and force you! They couldn't escape that warship!
"I understand," Ace said, his face still showing his reluctance.
Damn it, does he have to bully me like this!
---
On the warship's deck, Yamato, now wearing a Marine officer's uniform, leaned against the railing, looking at the endless sea. She felt incredibly relaxed.
So incredibly relaxed!
But Yamato also had a question that bothered her. "Roya, if I become a Marine, will I lose my freedom?"
"That depends on what you think freedom is," Roya replied with a smile. "Yamato, what does freedom mean to you?"
"Freedom is like the pirates, endless great adventures?" Yamato carefully watched Roya's face. She felt like her knowledge was so limited, and every time she felt confident, she was quickly proven wrong.
"Haha, those are a child's thoughts," Roya chuckled. This little girl was learning quickly.
"Pirates are free, but their freedom comes at the cost of other people's suffering, like your father and his crew."
"Father and his crew are free!" Yamato insisted. In her mind, the amazing adventures in Oden's diary were true freedom.
"Everyone's freedom is different," Roya explained seriously. "But the main idea is that freedom means pursuing the life you want."
"Pirates don't create anything. To stay free, they have to disrupt order, steal, and hurt others."
"That's not freedom. That's using selfish desires to take away other people's freedom for your own satisfaction."
"The Marines' job is to stop those criminals, keep order, and give more people the chance to choose and live freely."
The idea is good, but reality is harsh. Most ordinary people struggle just to survive, and the Marines aren't always as just as they should be.
How can we talk about freedom when the whole world is rotten?
Roya sighed. "I believe freedom is pursuing the life you want, but that pursuit has to stay within the rules of society."
"Oh," Yamato said, nodding thoughtfully.
She seems to understand, but not really.
"Someone's here," Roya said, seeing Ace approaching quickly on a small boat. He playfully ruffled Yamato's hair. "You need to read more books in the future. I'll have Lu Yun help you study. No slacking off!"
"Ah, I..." Yamato's face fell. She didn't want to study.
Damn it, this isn't freedom at all!
"Roya, can I..."
"No bargaining!" Roya said firmly. If he wanted to change this girl's way of thinking, reading was the best way. With knowledge, she could tell right from wrong.
She needs a good education.
A moment later, Ace jumped onto the warship's deck. He saw Roya standing there and obediently stood behind him.
I just got out of the hospital, so I don't want any trouble!
"Follow me."
"Okay," Ace replied.
Roya led Ace to the training room.
"Gulp!" Ace swallowed nervously. The training room looked huge and impressive. I wish I could move this to my pirate ship.
Roya turned to Ace. "From now on, you'll come here every night for training. I'll teach you how to master Haki, understand?"
"Ah, I-I-I..." Ace stammered, surprised.
He thought Roya wanted to talk about the Seven Warlords of the Sea, but he never expected this.
That's a big difference!
Roya looked at Ace questioningly. "Any problems?"
"No!" Ace straightened up immediately.
I know who's being good to me.
Besides... Ace touched the bandage on his chest. After being beaten by Yamato's Thunder Bagua attack, he understood the importance of Haki. Even a simple iron rod could become incredibly powerful with Haki.
If I want to defeat those monsters, the power of the Flame-Flame Fruit isn't enough. I have to master Haki!
I need to become stronger! Ace thought, feeling motivated.
"Roya, when do we start training?"
"Now!" Roya smirked. He was softening Ace up with training. Next time he brought up the Seven Warlords of the Sea, he was sure Ace would agree.
Heh, try to resist me!
