Chapter 118 - Vice Admiral Vergo, Please Offer Guidance

Inside the training area, the G-5 Marines were having a great time with Barto and his crew. They were playing games and teasing the pirates, making the most of their time.

Meanwhile, in the run-down office in the tower, Roya, Smoker, and Hina were mapping out their next move.

Hina, looking as stylish as ever with a cigarette in her mouth, crossed her long legs and said, "Colonel Roya, I hate to be a downer, but we're seriously short on cash. We need to deal with this ASAP, and I'm being serious."

"I know," Roya replied, a slight frown on his face.

Keeping warships afloat, feeding and housing the crew, and paying salaries all added up. It cost a fortune.

Just catching pirates wouldn't bring in enough money to support everyone. Pirates weren't known for saving, and even if they did, they'd spend it quickly. The small amount of money they got wasn't even enough to keep the warships running.

It was pretty clear that Vice Admiral Momonga didn't want to help them or let them go back to the G-1 Branch.

I could go back and beg for scraps, but I don't want to. If I go back, it'll be as a hero.

He needed to find a way to take care of things himself.

"How long will our warship supplies last?" he asked.

"Three months," came the reply.

"Okay," Roya said. Three months was a decent amount of time.

Roya turned to his assistant, "Lu Yun, get in touch with the nearby kingdoms and tell them we can help them out for a price!"

"Understood," Lu Yun replied, jotting it down in his notebook.

Roya paused, then added, "Secretly contact the Non-Aligned Nations too. They're in even worse shape."

"Colonel, that might mean dealing with the Underworld," Lu Yun warned cautiously.

Most of the Non-Aligned Nations were at war, filled with crime, and suffering from hunger. It would be hard to get anything out of them.

Plus, a lot of shady groups were operating in those nations.

Roya shook his head slightly. "Just do it."

"Yes, sir!" Lu Yun replied, dropping the matter.

Hina frowned, sounding annoyed. "Colonel Roya, we Marines don't have to help those Non-Aligned Nations. I don't want to stir up trouble."

"I don't care about the Marine's rules!" Roya shot back, his voice cold. "Colonel Hina, watch your mouth. I'm the Captain of the 11th Division!"

"Sorry, sir!" Hina snapped, barely holding back her anger.

"Good that you know," Roya said, his gaze sweeping over the room. "I don't care what you thought before, but now you work for me, and you'll follow my orders. If you don't like it, you can leave."

No one said a word.

Except for Hina, who was new, everyone knew how tough Roya could be.

Roya continued, "Let me make this clear: I don't care if a nation is aligned or not. My idea of Justice is that everyone deserves equal treatment!"

What does it mean for Justice to rule the world?

Roya's view was simple: Everyone is equal.

Of course, Roya didn't think he could create a perfectly equal world. He was just warning his people.

If they're not even willing to help the people of Non-Aligned Nations, how will they follow me down an even more extreme path in the future?

The others frowned, deep in thought.

Hina looked at Roya, a chill running down her spine. What he had said sounded good at first, and the Marines were supposed to protect people.

But isn't it against what the World Government believes? The Non-Aligned Nations don't have any rights!

She didn't think Roya was unaware of that.

"Let's get back to the meeting," he said.

"Yes, sir!"

Just as Roya was holding the meeting, a warship with the G-5 logo arrived at the G-5 Fortress.

"Vice Admiral Vergo is back!"

"Everyone, line up!"

The news quickly reached the conference room.

Roya jumped to his feet, his eyes shining.

I thought he'd be gone longer, but Vergo's back already.

"Let's go welcome him!" he said.

"Yes, sir!"

On their way, they passed the training area, where Vergo watched his men playing around with Barto and the others. He didn't seem to care.

To him, this is the best way for the G-5 Branch to be. It's better if they're all useless; if they're too good, they might cause problems.

"They're Marines from G-1," someone said.

At the port, he saw the warship from the G-1 Branch. He had heard about what had happened there recently.

It was "Black Hair."

Vergo smirked. A bunch of clueless kids are about to be eaten alive by the horrors of this sea.

Roya met him before he could go inside.

"Vice Admiral Vergo, I'm Roya, Captain of the 11th Division of the G-1 Branch. Sorry for showing up unannounced!"

"It's fine, we're all Marines," Vergo said calmly, nodding.

Roya quietly checked out Vergo.

He seems pretty nice. Aside from the cookie in his mouth, there's nothing wrong with him. He even looks kind of ordinary.

But this is the guy who completely outmatched Smoker when he was a Vice Admiral. He's one of the strongest Vice Admirals.

"Vice Admiral Vergo!" Roya said, bowing slightly. "I've been struggling with my training lately. I've heard you're great at close combat and Haki, and I'd like to ask you for some guidance."

Vergo stared at Roya without saying anything.

The surrounding G-5 Marines were surprised.

"Huh? Is Black Hair challenging Vice Admiral Vergo?" one of them asked.

"Idiot, it's not a challenge, it's guidance! Do you even know what that means?" another replied.

"It means learning. Black Hair couldn't beat Vice Admiral Vergo. He wants to learn from him, got it?"

"Oh, I get it!"

The Marines chatted excitedly, eager to see their leader in action.

Vergo nodded almost without anyone noticing and headed toward the training area. As the leader, showing off his power would help him keep the Marines in line.

Besides, he's always been friendly and helpful to his men. Turning down Black Hair wouldn't be like him.

"Follow me," he said.

"Yes, sir!"

Roya took a deep breath.

Another reason I came to the G-5 Branch was to challenge Vergo, to see how strong he is and learn from his fighting style.

In the training area, the two stood about thirty feet apart.

Vergo didn't draw a weapon. He just stood there with his hands behind his back.

"Come at me," he said.

"Alright!"

Roya's eyes narrowed, and he shot forward, heading straight for Vergo. The muscles in his right arm tensed, and he coated it in Haki.

Focus all my strength into one point!

"Iron Body: Shatter!"

His fist was blocked by a palm.

Roya's eyes widened slightly. Before he could pull back his fist, Vergo grabbed it and threw him into the air.

"Moon Walk!"

Roya spun around, barely keeping his balance after using Moon Walk four times. He kicked out with his right leg, sending blue, bird-shaped waves of energy flying downward.

"Storm Leg: Flying Hawk!"

"Too slow," Vergo said.

He tilted his body slightly, dodging the energy waves. Then, he vanished, instantly appearing in front of Roya and kicking him in the stomach!

"Ugh!"

Roya's cheeks puffed out, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. His body shot toward the ground like an arrow.

"Boom!!!"

Dust filled the air.

At the edge of the training area, Smoker watched Roya get completely beaten, his face grim, his anger rising.

"He doesn't stand a chance!" he said.

"Of course not. He's up against a real Vice Admiral from Headquarters. You didn't think Black Hair could win, did you? I'm not surprised," Hina replied.

"I know," Smoker said.

Of course, Smoker didn't expect Roya to win.

But seeing Roya, who could defeat him, being so easily beaten by Vergo made him realize how weak he still was.

Smoker took off his coat and tossed it to Hina.

"Hold this for me," he said.

"What are you doing? Smoker!" Hina asked, worried. He's not going to do something stupid like that Black Hair, is he?

"What else can I do? I'm going to challenge Vice Admiral Vergo!" Smoker replied coldly, stepping into the training area without looking back. When Roya fell, it would be his turn.

No matter what, Roya was his superior, a man he respected. He couldn't just stand by and watch him get beaten.

"Smoker, huh," Vergo said, spotting Smoker entering the area. He suddenly moved faster, kicking Roya toward Smoker.

"Tch!"

Roya spat out blood, his eyes blazing. "Smoker, this guy's tough. Let's take him on together!"

"Alright!"

The two charged at Vergo from the left and right!

"Iron Body: Burst!"

"Steam: White Fist!"
