Chapter 117 - Marine Paradise: G-5 Branch

G-5 Branch was known as a safe place for the Marine's misfits. It was a spot where even orders from the top were ignored! Their terrible behavior had earned them the nickname "Illegal Group."

G-5 was the only real Marine base inside the New World. G-1 was more like a gate.

The warship led by Roya arrived at the G-5 Branch that morning.

From a distance, the G-5 Fortress gave off a wild, anything-goes feeling. The outer walls were cracked and patched up with wood, like messy bandages slapped on in a hurry.

After a quick chat using a Den Den Mushi (a snail phone), G-5 quickly said yes to their docking request.

"Hmm, they're usually not this easy to deal with," Hina thought, puzzled. She expected them to refuse entry or even fire warning shots.

Normally, not even ships from Headquarters could dock without the G-5's permission.

That's just how G-5 was.

The Marine saw G-5 as a trash can, or like how Vice Admiral Momonga treated Black Hair:

Out of sight, out of mind.

At the port, a huge crowd of G-5 Marines poured out. Their clothes were rough, and their faces looked wild. They didn't act like proper Marines at all.

"Black Hair Bro's here!" someone yelled.

"Line up to welcome him! Look tough!"

"Ooooh!" they roared.

When Roya and his crew stepped onto the shore, the Marines greeted them right away. The guy at the front wore flower-print shorts, a sweatshirt, a military coat, and metal boots. It was quite a look!

"I'm Overhead Commodore, commander of the G-5 Branch 06 Unit!" he announced warmly. "Welcome to the G-5 Branch, Black Hair Brother! My men were under your care at the training camp. We're very grateful!"

"It was nothing, Overhead Commodore," Roya replied.

Roya shook hands with Overhead Commodore and looked at the men behind him. He recognized some of them.

Pike, Bamba, Jero...

"Black Hair Bro, we've been waiting for you to come to G-5!" Pike shouted.

"Yeah, Black Hair Bro, you've been making a name for yourself lately!"

"The Mohican Legion is awesome!"

"Hey, Black Hair Bro, where'd your mohawk go?"

Pike and the others chimed in, staring at Roya's head. The mohawk that had excited them was gone, replaced by a smooth, slicked-back hairstyle.

They looked disappointed.

Roya's lips twitched.

I didn't even like the mohawk that much. I only changed my hair after I used Life Return to make it grow back after leaving G-1.

His men didn't have that ability.

"Ooooh! It's the Mohican Legion!" someone shouted.

"So cool!"

Everyone turned to Barto and his crew, their eyes wide with admiration.

These are my kind of people! Barto thought.

"Hahaha, Black Hair Bro, come inside the fortress and relax. We've got plenty of fun things planned for you!" Overhead Commodore said.

"Alright!" Roya replied.

Overhead Commodore led the way. The G-5 Branch didn't like proper Marines, but Black Hair and his men were different.

They were brothers!

Roya felt comfortable, like he was coming home.

Inside the fortress, the walls were covered in wild graffiti, bright and flashy. Roya felt like he was in a New York subway station.

The theme is freedom! he thought.

"Black Hair Bro, this way!" Overhead Commodore called.

Soon, Roya saw the entertainment that the G-5 Branch had prepared.

In the middle of the training field was a pool filled with fat sharks. Next to the pool was a fishing platform with pirates dangling from thick fishing rods.

"Help! Let us go!" one pirate cried.

"I'm sorry! I was wrong!" another begged.

"You bastards! You're not fit to be Marines!" a third yelled.

The pirates were pale and begging or cursing, but the Marines were unmoved. They were getting more excited.

Overhead chuckled. "Black Hair Bro, wanna try the Shark Fishing Game?"

"Well..." Roya said, sweating.

Am I really that bored? he wondered.

"Barto, you guys go have some fun," Roya said.

"Hehehe, thank you, Colonel!" Barto shouted, stepping forward with his men. He grabbed a fishing rod and howled with excitement.

They loved G-5!

Roya sighed and followed Overhead Commodore to his office.

Overhead Commodore pulled out some wine, scratching his head apologetically. "Black Hair Bro, we don't have fancy coffee or tea here, just wine."

"..."

Isn't drinking against the rules in the military?! Roya thought.

He was too tired to argue.

"Is Vice Admiral Vergo here?" Roya asked.

"No, Vice Admiral Vergo is often away on duty and rarely stays at the base," Overhead replied casually. He opened the wine and chuckled. "Don't worry, you can do whatever you want at the G-5 Base. The only rule is that there are no rules. Vice Admiral Vergo never interferes."

"..."

How wonderful! Roya thought.

He realized he had underestimated how wild the G-5 Branch was.

This isn't a fortress; it's an unmanaged prison.

Roya explained why he was there. "Overhead Commodore, I need a sea chart of the area around the G-5 Branch, and information on pirate activity."

"I see. Just a moment," Overhead replied.

He rummaged through a drawer and pulled out a crumpled sea chart. It was dirty, but the surrounding islands were marked clearly.

Dressrosa, Provence, Mokaro Kingdom...

Besides the kingdoms, there were also many islands.

Three islands were marked prominently: Thunder God Island, Ridicule Island, and Mystria Island.

These three islands were the first stop for pirates entering the New World, the starting points of shipping routes, and were swarming with pirates.

"What are these red markings?" Roya asked.

"Those islands are the Four Emperors' turf," Overhead replied, his expression turning serious. "Red markings mean danger. They're mostly the territory of the Four Emperors or the Underground Emperor. It's best not to mess with them."

Pick the easy targets. The G-5 Branch didn't follow the rules, but they knew which enemies they couldn't afford to fight.

Especially the Four Emperors!

"I understand," Roya said, nodding slightly. He looked at Dressrosa and the surrounding islands, thinking.

Vergo was Doflamingo's right-hand man, and Doflamingo was the biggest underground dealer in the New World, involved in countless illegal businesses.

Weapons, contraband...

It was a huge operation, so it couldn't be completely hidden. The Marine's intelligence wasn't useless, so Vergo had to cover up Doflamingo's activities.

This is dangerous! Roya thought.

He knew that taking down Vergo was extremely risky. He couldn't afford to mess with the Donquixote Family with his current strength.

If he alerted them, he could be putting himself in danger.

Roya pocketed the sea chart.

"Thank you, Overhead Commodore!" he said.
