One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 42 — Forty-two
Serena’s eyes bulged in shock. Her body spun, and her eyes came in contact with Alexander who had a smirk dancing on his lips.
Serena’s eyes dropped, then she noticed that the space between them was little. She instantly took a step back, creating a considerable distance between them.
Alexander looked at the distance which was created between them and he smiled before leaning on the elevator wall.
"Are you fully recovered?" Alexander asked.
Serena raised her head. "Yes, I am." She replied gently.
"Are you sure? Do you need me to give you a massage?" Alexander asked, his eyes crinkling with delight and teasing.
Serena knew that there was something wrong with his words. But she couldn’t place her finger on where it was wrong. Her gaze was intensely fixated on him.
"You..." She trailed off, pointing her fingers at him when she noticed the teasing in his eyes.
"You are smart." Alexander confessed with a cocky smile. "Do you remember three days ago?" He probed carefully.
Serena swallowed as her mind replayed what happened three days ago. They had made out in the middle of the living room.
She bit her lips as the flashes became more clear. Her face turned red as she gulped.
"Alexander..." She whispered. Thankfully, the elevator buzzed open. Serena saw that as an escape, and she rushed it out of the elevator like a scared little kitten.
Alexander watched her run, and he smiled knowingly. "It is only a matter of time, Princess. You are mine, and would always be mine."
Serena didn’t know what was going on in Alexander’s mind as she walked to her office, only to be stopped by the cheating ex: Ethan.
Her brows furrowed as her gaze landed on him. "Why are you obstructing my path?" She demanded with folded arms.
"Serena, you have to help Jessica. She is still your sister." Ethan tried to hold her hands, but she evaded him while her eyes were filled with disgust.
"What do you mean by helping Jessica? The last time I checked, I was the only one my mom gave birth to." Serena scoffed, folding her arms.
"She is still your father’s daughter." Ethan retorted.
Serena rolled her eyes in reply. "If you have nothing to say, then can you please let me pass? I have a lot of things to get to."
"Serena, please." Ethan pleaded, his eyes red which was proof that he had not slept off a while.
"There is nothing I can do about it. I wasn’t the one who fired her." Serena said without batting an eyelid.
"You could convince Alexander. People say you are both close. You might even be in a relationship with him." Ethan said without thinking.
Serena laughed out loud, not out of amusement but anger. "You seriously overestimate me. I suggest you have your brains checked. If there’s nothing else, please."
She didn’t even bother to entertain him anymore as she walked away.
Ethan clenched his fingers as he watched her leave. "Then don’t blame me for what happens next." He murmured under his breath before walking out dejectedly.
Meanwhile, all attention was on Serena when she walked in. Instantly, there were cheers and applause.
"Serena is back!" One screamed and the others cheered.
Serena looked at the people who welcomed her, and she was in a state of disbelief.
"You..." She pointed at each of them, unable to utter a word.
"Serena, welcome back. I hope you like this." Maya walked out with a bright smile on her face.
"You are the mastermind behind this, aren’t you?" Serena asked while chuckling..
"Of course. But I got help from the rest." Maya stuck out her tongue cheekily.
"Thank you so much." Serena gratefully said. She turned to the rest of her colleagues with gratitude in her eyes. "I appreciate this. Thank you so much."
"We do hope you have recovered fully." One person asked, and she smiled.
"I’m much better now. I won’t take your time. Please, return to your tasks." Serena said, and walked straight to her seat.
Maya held her hand as they walked.
"I bumped into Ethan just a few minutes ago." Serena informed, her voice barely above a whisper but enough for only Maya to hear.
Maya’s brows knitted together. "I hope he didn’t try to hurt you."
"He didn’t." Serena shook her head negatively. "But he told me to help Jessica."
Maya’s face scrunched up in disgust. "Genuinely, does he think you can do that? How does he want you to do that?" Her voice rose as she spoke.
Serena held her hand, while shaking her head.
Maya took a deep breath. "He must be joking."
Serena gestured for Maya to lean in, and the latter did so.
"What are these rumors all about?" Serena whispered into her ears.
Maya stood straight. "What are you talking about?" She feigned ignorance. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Serena stared at her pointedly. She didn’t believe that Maya didn’t know what she was talking about. Before she could reply, someone showed up at the door.
"Miss. Wilson." She called out.
All eyes turned to Serena. Serena frowned before rising to her feet. "That’s me."
"The President wants you in his office, ASAP." After reporting, the lady walked away.
Serena and Maya exchanged glances while the former bit her lips and walked out of the office under the scrutiny of her colleagues.
A few minutes later, she was finally standing opposite Alexander..
"Miss Wilson." He said, gesturing for her to have her seat.
Serena was taken aback. ’He is professional? He didn’t call me Serena or Princess?’ She thought to herself as she settled into the seat.
But, she didn’t think too much of it. If anything, she was comfortable with the way he addressed her.
Alexander could tell what was on her mind from her expression, and he smiled.
"Miss Wilson, this is for you." He said, and slid a folder across to the table.
Serena’s eyes narrowed in concentration and picked up the folder. Her eyes flickered over to Alexander who urged her to open.
She listened and opened it. Her brows wrinkled as she read through the content of the document.
"A promotion?" She asked, uncertainty evident in her voice.
"Yes. You’ve been promoted to being my Executive Assistant." Alexander nodded.
Serena blinked rapidly while she was caught off guard.
"I can’t accept it." She rejected without thinking. If she became his executive assistant, the rumors would only increase and she wasn’t interested in listening to rumors about herself.
Alexander chuckled knowingly. He was already expecting her words. He rose to his feet, walked around the table which separated them and came to stand behind her.
He whispered into her ears, his breath brushing against her cheeks. "Unfortunately, you have no other option than to accept this. If you don’t, you’ll be fired. And once you are fired, you won’t be hired by another company. Do it for Mama."
Serena’s eyes bulged in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that Alexander could threaten her with such words.
She looked up at him, and he tilted his head to meet her gaze. "So, what do you say? Are you ready to be my assistant?"
Serena swallowed. She could feel the danger oozing from him, and she took a deep breath. "Fine." She gave in, having no other option..
Their gazes met, tension sparking in the room. Serena had only one thought as she stared at him: something was about to change between them.
