On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 5: Mysterious Pharmacist
Chloe Sterling glanced at her like she were looking at an idiot. Then she kept walking.
The woman’s expression changed. She immediately pulled out her phone and made a call. "Young Master Holt, Chloe is so ungrateful. She’d rather cut ties with the Sterling Family than marry you. She embarrassed you like this. You can’t just let her off the hook, can you?"
Miles Holt scoffed. "When did I ever say I was going to let her off? I always get women I want."
Chloe’s refusal to marry him had made Miles Holt a laughingstock in their social circle. If it weren’t for her face, he would never have considered marrying a country bumpkin.
But this country bumpkin didn’t even know what was good for her. The more Miles thought about it, the angrier he got, and the more he wanted Chloe.
He had been with so many women of all types, but none could compare to Chloe. Her face was just impossibly beautiful, and she had an ethereal, otherworldly air about her. The first time he saw her, he was completely captivated. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Picturing Chloe’s stunning looks, Miles was blinded by lust. He completely forgot Julian’s warning, and his mind singularly focused on getting the beauty who haunted his dreams.
Chloe walked out of the confidential laboratory, and several hostile gazes from the main lab hall immediately fell upon her.
"What was the Director thinking? Letting just any Tom, Dick, or Harry into the confidential lab."
"Just wait and see. The Director is bound to be proven wrong. When that happens, he definitely won’t let this charlatan off easy."
Chloe went to the locker room, changed out of her lab coat, and left.
She had just walked out of the main gate of the Medical College when a black SUV screeched to a halt in front of her.
The door opened, and Miles Holt, who had clearly been waiting, got out with a smirk. "My fiancée, long time no see."
Chloe’s brow furrowed in disgust. "Get lost!"
Seeing this, Miles’s face darkened, and his tone turned mocking. "You’re pretty resourceful, aren’t you? Even managed to worm your way into the Medical College. Looks like you put in a lot of work on Xavier.
"I just wonder if Julian Xavier would still be so helpful after he finds out that I take you!"
Chloe’s beautiful eyes narrowed, a cold light swirling within them...
"Chloe, I’m going to... Ugh!"
Before he could finish his sentence, a heavy punch landed in his gut. The pain knocked the wind out of him, and he doubled over, gasping.
At the same time, a dagger fell from his clothes—one he had intended to use to scare Chloe.
Chloe glanced down, bent over to pick up the dagger, and fixed the man before her with an icy gaze, as if looking at a corpse.
Miles’s face went pale. He was starting to get scared.
’This isn’t a woman in front of me,’ he thought, ’it’s a fucking soul-reaping demoness!’
Watching the woman slowly raise the dagger, he scrambled backward in terror until his back hit the car, with nowhere left to retreat. "Wh-what are you trying to do? Chloe Sterling, if you dare touch me with that thing, I’ll never let you off the hook! Don’t think you can do whatever you want just because you have Julian Xavier backing you up!"
"I’ve never needed anyone to back me up," Chloe said quietly, her voice like a demon’s from hell. The dagger in her hand suddenly shot toward his face. As the cold steel flashed, Miles squeezed his eyes shut and shrieked, "Don’t, don’t, don’t! I apologize, sorry. I’m sorry"
The blade skimmed past his ear, slicing off a lock of hair before shattering the car window. The moment the tip landed, Miles’s knees gave out, and he collapsed to the ground.
Looking at the man crumpled on the ground, Chloe sneered, "What a boring dump."
She tossed the dagger onto the ground, turned, and hailed a taxi.
Miles’s dark gaze followed the direction she’d left in. He gritted his teeth. "Chloe Sterling, you’ve got guts. You’re wild! Just wait, I’ll have you in the end! "
Chloe returned to the Lockwood Residence after a while.
Jasper walked out of the house and saw her return alone. So he asked, "Why didn’t you call me? I thought we agreed I’d pick you up when you were finished."
Chloe said, "I finished early, so I just came back on my own. There was no need for you to make the trip back and forth."
"But I want to."
Well...
The two then walked shoulder to shoulder inside.
A servant immediately brought over some tea, and bowed respectfully. "Madam, here’s your tea."
Chloe sat on the sofa, lifted the teacup, and took a delicate sip.
Just then, Henry walked over, looking like he had something to report. "Sir, Madam."
"What is it?" Jasper asked.
Chloe sipped her tea, and then she heard Henry say, "I have received word that the man named Coldwell came to the Imperial to find a woman. It seems he isn’t targeting you."
"A woman?"
"Yes," Henry continued. "But we haven’t been able to find out her identity. Could she be his wife? Why else would he come looking for her personally?"
Chloe almost spat out her tea, but she managed to suppress the urge without showing it.
Jasper’s eyes deepened slightly. "He doesn’t have a wife. But... it could be that person."
After a moment of thought, Henry said, "Are you referring to the Mysterious Pharmacist?"
Jasper pressed his lips together without saying a word. That was a silent confirmation.
Henry nodded. "It might really be the Mysterious Pharmacist. Rumor has it the Pharmacist is a beautiful woman who is very important to that man, Coldwell. But no one knows who she is or what she looks like."
Chloe quietly looked at her phone off to the side, without getting involved in their conversation.
On the screen was a message from an unknown number.
[Baby, I know you’re in the Imperial. I will find you. Wait for me.]
Chloe’s eyes narrowed slightly before she deleted the message.
Though it was an unknown number, she knew it was from Silas Coldwell.
They all said that people with different principles couldn’t walk the same path. She and Silas Coldwell were not the same kind of people, and she didn’t want to get too involved with him.
She then sent a message to a special number, saying "Hide my tracks. Don’t let Silas Coldwell find me."
"Okay."
Jasper set down his teacup. "Don’t worry about him for now. You can all leave."
"Yes, sir." Henry bowed his head and led the butler, servants, and others out of the room.
Soon, only the two of them were left in the vast house.
Chloe glanced at Jasper, feeling confused. "Why did you make them all leave?"
"You’re not used to having a lot of people around, are you? Won’t you be more comfortable now that it’s just the two of us?"
Well...
’If anything, I’m even less comfortable with just the two of us,’ she thought. ’Especially with him so close.’
"I think I’ll go for a walk in the garden," Chloe said, and stood up suddenly.
"Alright. I’ll go with you," Jasper replied, getting up as well.
So they went to the garden together.
The garden’s design was exquisite, filled with all sorts of exotic flowers and rare plants.
Chloe was drawn to a patch of extremely rare Nine-Color Flowers and walked over.
"Be careful, that flower is poisonous," Jasper reminded her softly.
"Mm," Chloe nodded. Of course she knew it was poisonous. As a top-level pharmacist, she had studied most of the world’s rare and exotic plants.
"Why would you plant this kind of flower in your garden?"
"It was a gift. I planted it because it looks nice."
"Just because it looks nice?" Chloe was a bit skeptical.
A slight smile touched the corner of Jasper’s lips. "It has other uses from time to time."
Chloe didn’t ask what those uses were.
The garden was vast, and they walked for a long time.
Night fell quickly.
Since the two were already married, the butler naturally hadn’t prepared a separate room for Chloe.
Having decided to move in, Chloe had prepared herself for this. She walked into the bedroom just as Jasper was coming out of the bathroom.
A loosely tied bathrobe was draped around his 190 cm frame. Droplets of water from his damp hair trickled down his well-defined cheeks, neck, and collarbone before disappearing into the robe.
There was no denying it—the man had an excellent physique.
