On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 4: Moving into the Lockwood Residence
Chloe Sterling slammed the door shut and began to pack her things. There wasn’t much of them.
Rose walked out of the apartment building, and her face turned grim. She was stunned to see Henry getting out of a car nearby—she never expected to run into someone from the Lockwood Group here.
But she didn’t dare approach him. Though Henry was just an assistant, he was Jasper Lockwood’s assistant. That fact alone was enough to intimidate her.
Jasper was a man far beyond the reach of minor families like hers. She was self-aware enough to know her place.
Chloe quickly finished packing. Everything fit into a single suitcase.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Thinking Rose hadn’t left yet, Chloe frowned and ignored it.
It wasn’t until the doorbell rang for a third time that she impatiently went to open it.
Henry stood at the door. Seeing the hostile expression on her face, he was taken aback for a moment. "Madam... good morning."
"Henry! What are you doing here?" Chloe asked, confused.
Henry smiled, lifting the food container in his hand. "Madam, Mr. Lockwood sent me to bring you breakfast. You drank quite a bit last night, so it’s best to have some porridge this morning. I also brought your favorite pastries."
Chloe glanced at the container in his hand, with a complicated look in her eyes. "Come in."
Henry entered the apartment and immediately noticed the suitcase in the living room.
"Madam, are you going on a trip?"
"No."
"Then where are you going, Madam? I can give you a ride."
After a moment of thought, Chloe said, "I’m moving."
She had actually bought her own apartment, but certain things had delayed her from moving in.
If she moved there now, Jasper would probably think she was deliberately avoiding him.
"Moving?" Henry looked puzzled.
Chloe Sterling looked at him and said bluntly, "I’m planning to move to the Lockwood Residence."
Henry was lost in words.
’She’s finally willing to move to the Lockwood Residence!’
"Oh, and don’t tell Jasper Lockwood yet. I’ll tell him myself," Chloe added.
Henry nodded. "Of course. Mr. Lockwood will be overjoyed when he finds out."
Two hours later...
At the Lockwood Residence.
Henry gave Chloe a tour of the estate, and showed her everything Jasper had prepared for her a month in advance.
The walk-in closet was filled with all kinds of designer clothes, shoes, jewelry, and bags for women. It looked like a small department store.
The garage housed a dozen new luxury cars suitable for a woman to drive, and a newly hired cuisine chef was now on staff for spicy food.
Chloe Sterling loved spicy food.
Jasper’s preparations had been meticulous, and Chloe felt an indescribable stirring in her heart.
After a brief pause, she took out her phone. She was about to call Jasper when she remembered he was in a meeting, so she sent him a text instead.
It read, "Jasper, I’ve moved into the Lockwood Residence."
In the meanwhile...
In a conference room at the Lockwood Group, Jasper abruptly ended the meeting and strode out, as if on an incredibly urgent matter.
The executives looked bewildered but were also secretly relieved. The tyrant had finally dismissed them.
Jasper returned to the Lockwood Residence swiftly. Just as he stepped out of his car, he saw a slender figure by the flower bushes.
Chloe was a little surprised to see him back so soon.
A slight smile touched Jasper’s lips as he walked toward her.
"Weren’t you in a meeting? What are you doing here?" Chloe asked.
Jasper stopped in front of her. "I wanted to see if it was true."
Chloe was speechless.
’As if I would lie to him about this!’
"Is there anything else you need? I’ll have someone arrange it," Jasper asked.
"No, you’ve been very thorough." After a pause, Chloe added, "Thank you."
Jasper gazed at her, and his voice was bewitching. "Chloe, you don’t have to be so formal with me. This is all what a husband should do for his wife."
Chloe cleared her throat. "Now that you’ve verified it, aren’t you going back to the office?"
"Not for now. Do you have anything to do today?" Jasper asked.
Chloe replied, "I have to go out this afternoon."
Jasper said, "Then I’ll leave in the afternoon instead."
Chloe raised an eyebrow. "Won’t your people at the Group be upset if you shirk your duties like this?"
Jasper replied, "They wouldn’t dare."
Chloe was speechless again. ’...Good point.’
Time flew, and soon it was noon. Lunch was prepared entirely to Chloe’s tastes, with most dishes full of chili peppers.
Watching the young woman before him, Jasper asked softly, "How’s the food?"
Chloe nodded. "It’s so delicious."
’The chefs were hired at great expense; of course their skills are great.’
Jasper turned to the butler standing nearby and instructed, "Keep these chefs."
The butler bowed his head. "Yes, sir."
Chloe looked at the man before her, with an unreadable expression on the face.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Jasper asked when he noticed her stare.
Chloe pressed her lips together. "Why... did you choose to marry me?"
A corner of Jasper’s mouth curled up. "When a person pledges themself to another," he said leisurely, "marriage is the natural outcome."
"..."
Chloe said no more and continued eating.
A moment later, Henry approached. He seemed to have something important to discuss as he said cautiously, "Mr. Lockwood, please."
"What is it?" Jasper asked.
"That madman, Silas Coldwell, has come to Imperial again. He’s already in Crestfall. He lost to you last time, so I’m afraid he isn’t coming with good intentions."
"Silas Coldwell! You have dealings with Silas Coldwell?" Chloe looked astonished.
"You know Silas Coldwell?" Jasper was a little surprised.
"I... heard about him from Director Xavier."
Of course Chloe Sterling knew Silas Coldwell. He was the head of the Nocturne Group in Country E, a man of immense power whose ruthless methods struck fear into the hearts of all who heard of them.
And she’d had some dealings with him herself.
She never imagined that Jasper had also crossed paths with Silas Coldwell—and was rumored to be the only person who had ever defeated him.
There weren’t many people who could make Silas Coldwell suffer a loss and live to tell the tale.
Suddenly, Chloe Sterling felt that the man before her was even more dangerous than Silas. She even began to wonder if her decision to marry him had been a bit rash.
Noticing her worry, Jasper watched her and said with sincere earnestness, "Chloe, there are certainly dangers around me in my position. But rest assured, I will protect you. I will never let anyone harm you."
"..."
Chloe was speechless for a moment. She watched the man quietly, with that same indescribable feeling welling up inside her.
This was the first time in all these years that someone had promised to protect her.
Though she didn’t need protecting, she still nodded. "Okay."
After a moment of thought, Jasper said to Henry, "From now on, you are to accompany my wife and responsible for her safety."
"Yes, Sir."
"That’s not necessary," Chloe Sterling objected. "You don’t need to follow me. I’m not used to having someone around."
"Henry is a skilled fighter. He can protect you."
"So am I. I really don’t need it."
Henry was speechless.
Chloe’s skills were indeed extraordinary. She possessed some exceptional abilities. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so respectful toward her.
In the end, Chloe still refused to let Henry accompany her around.
Jasper didn’t press the issue. In the very afternoon, he personally drove her to the Medical College.
As Chloe was walking toward the labs, a woman suddenly approached her. It was one of Esther’s friends.
"Well, look at you, quite the schemer. You even managed to worm your way into the Medical College. I guess all your hard work on Young Master Xavier paid off, huh?"
