Chapter 176: Chapter 176: A Secluded Master

After leaving the clubhouse, Chloe Sterling met Charles Sterling at a coffee shop near The Medical College. ๐“ฏ๐™ง๐™š๐’†๐™ฌ๐™š๐’ƒ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐’—๐“ฎ๐“ต.๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข

"Miss Sterling, have you found a way to solve that problem?"

Chloe Sterling took a sip of her coffee and spoke slowly. "Iโ€™ve thought of a method, but Iโ€™ll need to run some experiments before I can confirm the results."

"You have an idea!" Charles Sterlingโ€™s eyes lit up. He immediately asked, "How long will it take to get the results?"

"A week at the earliest."

"May I ask what the method is? What kind of herbs are you adding?"

After a moment of thought, Chloe Sterling said, "It would be best if I told you after the results are in, Mr. Sterling. I canโ€™t be certain about anything right now."

Charles Sterling smiled. "Thatโ€™s fine. But Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll have no trouble. Iโ€™ve been talking to Director Xavier a lot these past two days, and Iโ€™m only just realizing how incredible you are, Miss Sterling."

Chloe Sterling said flatly, "Director Xavier is just being kind."

"Thereโ€™s no need to be modest, Miss Sterling. I know you helped The Medical College solve a problem that had been troubling them for a very long time. I never would have expected someone so young to be so capable."

Initially, Charles Sterling had just been willing to give her a shot. But after learning more about Chloe Sterlingโ€™s accomplishments from Director Xavier, he was astonished. His trust and expectations for her had grown considerably.

Besides, he had a gut feeling that Chloe Sterling would definitely be able to help him solve this problem.

"By the way, I heard youโ€™re also from Crestfall, Miss Sterling. I wonder which master you studied under?"

Charles Sterling wasnโ€™t prying into Chloe Sterlingโ€™s background; he currently had no idea about her true identity.

Chloe Sterlingโ€™s fingers tightened slightly around her coffee cup. After a moment, she said, "My master is just a rural doctor, not some grandmaster. Iโ€™ve only learned a little pharmacology from him since I was a child."

"A rural doctor?" Charles Sterling was genuinely surprised, but not in the least bit disrespectful. He smiled and said, "So heโ€™s a hidden master."

Chloe Sterling gave a faint smile but said nothing.

โ€™Master really could be considered a hidden master. Even though he never mentioned his past, I can feel heโ€™s no ordinary person. His deep, profound eyes seem to hide so many stories from long ago.โ€™

"I wonder if your esteemed master is in Crestfall at the moment. Would I have the honor of meeting him?" Charles Sterling added.

Chloe Sterlingโ€™s eyes darkened slightly. "Iโ€™m afraid Iโ€™ll have to disappoint you, Mr. Sterling. My master enjoys wandering the world. Even I donโ€™t know where he is right now."

"I see. What a shame."

"Even if my master were in Crestfall, he wouldnโ€™t meet strangers casually. He only sees patients who are seriously ill."

"In that respect, you and your master are quite alike." After a pause, Charles Sterling gazed at Chloe Sterling and asked, "When you refused me at first, was it also because you donโ€™t like dealing with strangers?"

Chloe Sterling: "...Thatโ€™s right."

As they were talking, Charles Sterlingโ€™s phone suddenly buzzed with a notification. It was a message.

He glanced at the screen, a gentle, fond smile spreading across his handsome face. He then said, "Excuse me, I just need to reply to this."

Seeing his beaming smile, Chloe Sterling assumed the message was from Ava Rhodes. The couple seemed very much in love.

After replying to the message, Charles Sterling put down his phone and said, "That was my son, asking when weโ€™re coming home."

Chloe Sterling said, "Mr. Sterling, are you planning to return to Country A only after you find Lynn Chester? If so, Iโ€™m afraid you wonโ€™t be going back anytime soon."

"I donโ€™t necessarily have to find Lynn Chester. If the problem is solved, my wife and I will head back to Country A. We donโ€™t feel at ease being away from our two children for so long. Teenage boys are the most mischievous."

Chloe Sterling smiled faintly. "Youโ€™ll be back to see them soon enough."

A smile played on Charles Sterlingโ€™s lips. "I hope so."

ใ€ŒOutside the coffee shop, on the sidewalk.ใ€

Esther Sterling was walking distractedly with a friend.

"Esther, whatโ€™s wrong? Youโ€™ve seemed so down lately. Is it because things arenโ€™t going smoothly with The Sinclair Group contract?"

At the mention of The Sinclair Group, Esther Sterlingโ€™s expression soured. She pressed her lips together and said nothing.

"Huh?" The girl looked into the coffee shop. "Isnโ€™t that Chloe Sterling? Why is she sitting with some old guy? Wow, sheโ€™s not picky about age, is she!"

Hearing this, Esther Sterling followed her friendโ€™s gaze into the coffee shop. It was indeed Chloe Sterling.

The man across from her looked a bit familiar, as if sheโ€™d seen him somewhere before. After thinking for a while, Esther Sterling finally remembered. She and her mother had met this man before; he seemed to be a friend of her motherโ€™s. โ€™Why would he be with Chloe Sterling?โ€™

"Esther, do you have any idea who that man is?" the girl asked curiously.

Esther Sterling snorted. "Who knows! Just some random creep, probably!"

The girl suddenly pulled out her phone, snapped a picture of the pair through the window, and smirked. "Better get a photo first."

Esther Sterling glanced at her. "Are you going to post that online?"

The girl shrugged. "I wouldnโ€™t dare. Chloe Sterling has powerful backing now. Iโ€™m not about to cross her. But you never know, it might come in handy sooner or later."

Her eyes darting, Esther Sterling said, "Send me a copy."

"Sure, sending it now." The girl immediately sent her the photo, not forgetting to ask again, "By the way, did you end up signing with The Sinclair Group or not? Itโ€™s been so long."

Esther Sterling said, "They talked to me about signing, but I wasnโ€™t very satisfied with the terms, so I didnโ€™t sign."

"What?" The girl looked astonished. "What did you say? You... you turned down The Sinclair Group?"

Esther Sterling put on an unconcerned air. "Yeah. Itโ€™s not a big deal."

The girlโ€™s lips curled into a smile. "Esther, youโ€™re not playing hard to get, are you? That makes sense. Men donโ€™t cherish things that come too easily. Youโ€™ve got to keep them on the hook."

Esther Sterling said nothing, but her chest felt heavy, as if a large stone were crushing it. โ€™I canโ€™t accept this. I have to find another way to get close to Tristan Sinclair. I have to be by his side.โ€™

After talking for a little longer, Chloe Sterling and Charles Sterling went their separate ways.

Back at The Medical College, Chloe Sterling threw herself wholeheartedly into her experiments.

Maya Jacobs suddenly leaned in. "Chloe, I heard youโ€™ve been helping Apex Group solve a problem. Is that true?"

Chloe Sterling said flatly, "Itโ€™s not solved yet."

"If youโ€™re on the case, itโ€™s only a matter of time."

Chloe Sterling glanced at her. "How do you know that?"

Maya Jacobs grinned. "I went to Director Xavierโ€™s office the other day to see him and happened to overhear his conversation with Charles Sterling. But donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll keep it completely confidential. I wonโ€™t tell a soul."

Chloe Sterling: "Good."

Maya Jacobs propped her chin on her hands and looked at her, murmuring, "Chloe, youโ€™re so incredible. Why do you keep such a low profile?"

Chloe Sterling: "Being too conspicuous isnโ€™t a good thing."

โ€™The trouble my identity as Lynn Chester has caused is more than enough. I donโ€™t want to add any more worries. Now I finally understand why Master ran off to the countryside to become an obscure rural doctor. For the peace and quiet.โ€™

Maya Jacobs said, "Itโ€™s not about being conspicuous, really. I just think you deserve more recognition. Let them see how capable you are, so they can stop talking crap."
