Jasper Lockwood knew Chloe Sterling wasn’t telling the truth. He was displeased, but he didn’t press her further, knowing she wouldn’t talk anyway.

After that, the room fell silent again.

The silence held until the butler announced dinner was ready. Chloe Sterling went to the dining room to eat, while Jasper Lockwood went to the study.

The two didn’t exchange another word all evening.

A little after eleven at night, Chloe Sterling put down her phone, ready for bed. Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and Jasper Lockwood’s tall figure walked in.

Chloe Sterling: ".....Do you need something?"

Jasper Lockwood: "No."

Chloe Sterling: "......"

Then she watched as Jasper Lockwood walked over, lay down beside her, and said, "Just sleeping."

Just then, the phone on the bedside table suddenly rang. Jasper Lockwood glanced at it and answered.

"Hello? What is it?"

"Got it. I’m on my way."

With that, Jasper Lockwood got out of bed. He said a few more words before hanging up. Then, he turned back to Chloe Sterling and said, "Something’s come up, so I have to go. Breakfast is ready; go downstairs and eat when you get up."

"Where are you going?" Chloe Sterling asked.

"Is it urgent?"

"Yes." Jasper Lockwood said no more. He changed his clothes in front of her and left.

Even though it wasn’t the first time she had seen his body, the tips of Chloe Sterling’s ears still turned red.

For the next few days, Jasper Lockwood was exceptionally busy, almost always leaving early and returning late.

Chloe Sterling wasn’t idle either. She was busy with her lab project while also researching solutions for Apex Group’s problems.

Today, she even made time to visit the private club that Ruby Lynch frequented.

Ruby Lynch asked the bodyguard beside her, "What do you mean? The assassins from the Nocturne Group won’t take the job?"

The young bodyguard beside her also paled. The man in the intimate photos with Ruby Lynch was him. If the Rivers saw these, not only would Ruby Lynch be finished, but he would be dead, too.

He immediately looked at Ruby Lynch, who had already composed herself. "You think you can threaten me with a few photoshopped pictures?"

As Chloe Sterling reached the door, she was stopped by a staff member who had hurried over. "Miss, you kicked our door in. It wouldn’t be right for you to just leave."

Chloe Sterling glanced at Ruby Lynch inside the room. "Mrs. Rivers will pay for it."

The staff member looked at Ruby Lynch, who was gritting her teeth in fury. "Let her go!"

Chloe Sterling strode away.

"Close the door!" Ruby Lynch said coldly.

The bodyguard lowered his head. "I’m sorry, Ma’am. I was incompetent."

Ruby Lynch looked at him for a moment before speaking slowly, "You should leave for a while. Go back to your hometown."

"Ma’am!" The bodyguard seemed reluctant. "You... you want me to leave?"
