On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 161: Good Means
Quentin nearly pissed himself, thinking she was going to destroy his family jewels. He was almost relieved when he saw the knife land on his thigh, but the searing pain still made the veins on his forehead bulge, and beads of sweat broke out.
Chloe Sterling’s voice was frigid. "Are you going to turn it off?"
Quentin gritted his teeth, refusing to yield.
"Very well." Chloe Sterling stood up, walked over to her medical kit, and opened it. She took out a small porcelain vial, walked back to Quentin, and said, "You probably don’t know what this is, but it can amplify your pain tenfold. It’s also a poison that will cripple this leg for good. Care to try it?"
A flicker of terror crossed Quentin’s face. He then saw Chloe Sterling raise the vial, about to pour its contents onto his leg. He swallowed hard and spoke at the critical moment, "Wait! You’re ruthless. I’ll turn it off. I’ll order my men to turn it off right now."
After speaking, he turned to the terrified man beside him and ordered, "Turn off the infrared."
The man adjusted his earpiece and immediately relayed the order, "Turn off the infrared."
Quentin: "There. Happy now?"
Chloe Sterling turned and walked back toward her medical kit.
Quentin secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she was packing up to leave. ’This woman really is tough to deal with,’ he thought. ’I was too careless this time.’
But Chloe Sterling didn’t leave immediately. She took something else from her medical kit, walked back, and poured it onto Quentin’s wound.
"Wh-what are you doing?"
Chloe Sterling said softly, "Don’t worry. This is a different kind of poison. It won’t hurt. It’s just that, without the antidote... you’ll die."
Quentin: "..."
With that, Chloe Sterling threw the vial on the ground and added, "You can have it tested if you don’t believe me."
"What do you want?" Quentin asked in a deep voice.
Chloe Sterling: "Once I’ve left Maridia safely, you’ll get the antidote."
Quentin: "Impressive. You truly live up to the name Lynn Chester."
Ignoring him, Chloe Sterling picked up her medical kit. She used her phone to confirm that the infrared sensors in the courtyard were gone before walking out.
Quentin lay on the floor, his face a mixture of white and red. ’It was the first time in his life he’d ever been so humiliated, so utterly pathetic.’
Chloe Sterling had just gotten back to her car.
When a call from Jean Kensington came through.
Chloe Sterling glanced at the screen and answered, "Hello."
"Chloe, did you make it to the Sheffield estate?" Jean Kensington asked.
Chloe Sterling grunted in affirmation.
"Is anything unusual? I suddenly have a bad feeling. You should be careful."
Chloe Sterling: "...Got it."
"So, are you still at the Sheffield estate? What’s wrong with Old Madam Sheffield?"
"I’ve already left. It’s nothing serious."
"That’s good. I was trying to check on your situation over there, but I found that all the nearby surveillance cameras are down. Even the Sheffields’ own cameras are broken, so I couldn’t see anything. I was worried something was wrong. By the way, where are you headed now? Are you going to see President Lockwood?"
"Yeah, I’m on my way to his hotel now."
"Okay, be careful on your way. I’m hanging up now."
After hanging up, Chloe Sterling drove to the hotel where Jasper Lockwood was staying.
「The Parking Garage.」
Chloe Sterling got out of her car and walked toward the elevators.
Two women were walking toward her. One of them was the woman from yesterday’s online rumors—the supposed Mrs. Lockwood, eldest daughter of the Morgan Family, Stella Morgan.
’She’s here again,’ Chloe thought. ’She must be here to see Jasper Lockwood.’
Because Chloe Sterling was in disguise and looked completely different, Stella Morgan didn’t recognize her at all, even though she saw her.
She merely gave her a passing glance before looking away, her eyes filled with disappointment.
The woman beside her said, "Stella, why don’t you try to fight for him? With a cold and aloof man like President Lockwood, a woman has to take the initiative to have a chance. A man like that would never take it upon himself to fall for or pursue a woman."
Stella Morgan gave a bitter smile. "That’s because you haven’t seen how he is with his own wife."
The woman said, "Well, his wife must have been the one to take the initiative at first. A god-like man such as President Lockwood wouldn’t be easily swayed by mortal passions."
Stella Morgan: "Alright, stop it. He’s already married. From now on, we’re just friends."
The woman: "Are you okay with that? You’ve been in love with him for so many years."
Stella Morgan: "I know. All these years, and nothing came of it. I couldn’t compare to someone who just showed up. It seems he and I were fated to meet but never to be together."
The woman: "That’s because you never fought for him."
A hint of sadness crept into Stella Morgan’s voice. "I don’t want him to hate me."
The woman sighed softly. "You went through all that trouble to help him find some male miracle doctor, and he wouldn’t even have a single meal with you before rushing back to Crestfall."
Stella Morgan: "He probably had something urgent to get back to."
Chloe Sterling hadn’t been paying attention to their conversation, but she stopped in her tracks when she heard "male miracle doctor." ’Jasper Lockwood is here looking for a male miracle doctor!’
’Could he be looking for my master for me?!’
At that thought, Chloe Sterling quickened her pace toward the elevators, and the voices behind her gradually faded away.
Jean Kensington had sent her a photo yesterday, so she knew Jasper Lockwood’s room number. After reaching the sixth floor, she hurried toward it.
Chloe Sterling turned into a wide hallway and saw Jasper Lockwood coming out of a room not far away. Henry Chamberlain, two bodyguards, and a private pilot were flanking him.
The men were tall and imposing, walking with a powerful presence.
Jasper Lockwood, dressed in a black trench coat, was the tallest of them all. He walked at the front, his aura commanding.
Even the hotel staff in the hallway couldn’t help but steal a few extra glances at him, their eyes filled with awe and envy.
"Sir, should we inform your wife that you’re heading back early?" Henry Chamberlain suddenly asked.
"No need."
Jasper Lockwood checked the time and added, "She should be at The Medical College right now. Even if I told her, she wouldn’t come back."
Chloe Sterling: "..."
’In Jasper Lockwood’s eyes, am I really that heartless?’
Henry Chamberlain smiled. "So you’re planning on surprising your wife, then?"
Jasper Lockwood pressed his lips together, saying nothing. ’There might be a shock,’ he thought, ’but joy was less certain.’
Just as Chloe Sterling was about to call out to him, Henry Chamberlain’s phone suddenly rang. He pulled it from his pocket and answered, "Hello, what is it?"
"What!" Henry Chamberlain stopped abruptly. "Something like that actually happened? I understand!"
Seeing his expression, Jasper Lockwood immediately asked, "What’s wrong?"
After hanging up, Henry Chamberlain wore a grim expression and said in a low voice, "Sir, we just received word. The Sheffield Family of Maridia used a medical consultation as a pretext to lure the Madam to Maridia. They intend to capture her."
Jasper Lockwood’s expression darkened. "When?"
"Just today. The Madam should have already arrived in Maridia. She’s likely at the Sheffield estate right now."
Jasper Lockwood immediately took out his phone to make a call.
Seeing this, Chloe Sterling finally spoke up, "Jasper Lockwood."
Hearing the voice, the group of men all turned to look at her.
Seeing an unfamiliar face, Henry Chamberlain narrowed his eyes and questioned coldly, "Who are you? Is our Second Master’s name something you can call so casually?"
A cunning smile flashed in Chloe Sterling’s eyes. As she walked toward them, she said, "Aren’t names meant to be called?"
