On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 160: Caught in a Trap
Following the GPS, Chloe Sterling arrived in front of a seaside villa.
The Maridia residence of the Sheffield family’s matriarch.
Two men stood at the entrance, looking around. One was older, while the other appeared to be in his mid-twenties. They noticed Chloe Sterling getting out of her car and seemed hesitant, unsure if it was her.
Glancing from the two men to the house number beside the gate, Chloe Sterling said, "I’m Lynn Chester."
Staring at her young, beautiful face, both men looked astonished. The older one asked doubtfully, "You... you’re really Lynn Chester? But you’re so young."
Chloe Sterling had even put on makeup to look more mature today, but she was still being doubted. She was used to it, however, and said nonchalantly, "I just look young, that’s all."
The younger man said, "As expected of a top-level pharmacist. You take excellent care of yourself." He smiled and introduced himself, "Hello, Dr. Chester. I’m Quentin Sheffield, the one who contacted you. You can just call me Second Master Sheffield."
’He’d thought Lynn Chester would be an old woman, never imagining she’d be so young and beautiful. Was she really as formidable as the legends said?’
Quentin Sheffield was the second son of the Sheffield family’s main branch. With his flashy clothes, he was the very picture of a rich playboy.
Chloe Sterling nodded but didn’t reply.
Quentin Sheffield added, "This way, Dr. Chester. We’ve been waiting for you."
The older man beside him echoed, "Please, Dr. Chester, come in."
Chloe Sterling followed the two men into the villa.
As they walked, Quentin Sheffield said, "I really can’t believe you agreed to come, Dr. Chester. My grandmother is saved now."
"What’s your grandmother’s condition?" Chloe Sterling asked.
"Uh..." The man’s eyes flickered. "It’s better if you go in and see for yourself. It’s quite serious. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have troubled you to make the trip."
Chloe Sterling shot him a sideways glance, a strange glint in her eyes.
The three entered the living room. In the vast house, only a single maid stood guard at the door of a first-floor bedroom.
"This way, Dr. Chester." Quentin Sheffield pointed toward the bedroom. "My grandmother’s in that room."
Looking in the direction of the room, Chloe Sterling suddenly stopped in her tracks and asked, "Are you sure your grandmother is in that room?"
The two men beside her froze for a moment, their expressions changing slightly. Quentin Sheffield quickly replied, "Of course. She’s old, and with her illness, it’s hard for her to get around, so she lives on the first floor."
The other man added, "That’s right. Our madam prefers the first floor anyway, but she’s been so sick lately that she hasn’t been out in a very long time."
Chloe Sterling took a few steps forward, her gaze darkening. She suddenly asked, "Do you have any idea how many forces, both at home and abroad, want to capture me?"
Quentin Sheffield was taken aback, but then he laughed. "Of course I know. A person as incredible as you, Dr. Chester—who wouldn’t want to get their hands on you?"
Chloe Sterling’s voice was low. "But no one has ever succeeded. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I can quickly sense danger. For instance, I know exactly how many thugs are hiding in that room, and what kind of drugs they have with them."
Seeing that she had already seen through his plan, Quentin Sheffield dropped the charade. He burst out laughing. "You really live up to your name, Lynn Chester. I’m truly impressed today. But I’m still very curious to see whether you can escape from my grasp."
Chloe Sterling turned to face him and asked, "Who put you up to this?"
Quentin Sheffield smirked. "Beauty, don’t you have any idea how much you’re worth? Capturing you means I can negotiate with any power out there, even the illustrious Nocturne Group."
Chloe Sterling suddenly smiled. "So that’s how it is."
Even though she was in disguise, she was still breathtakingly beautiful, and her smile was bewitching.
Quentin Sheffield was momentarily stunned. Gazing at her exquisite face, he said with a lecherous grin, "However, I’ve changed my mind. It seems a waste to give you away. I think I’d rather keep you for myself."
Chloe Sterling scoffed, "The Nocturne Group couldn’t even catch me. What makes you think you can?"
Quentin Sheffield looked smug. "That’s because you were on guard against them. But I’m different. You came to my home to treat my grandmother, so you weren’t on guard." He then barked, "Everyone, out! Seize her!"
The bedroom door was thrown open, and dozens of thugs rushed out.
Quentin Sheffield and the other man quickly retreated.
Chloe Sterling faced off against the dozens of men.
A few minutes later, the smug look on Quentin Sheffield’s face began to fade. More than half of his thugs were already down. They had no serious injuries, yet they were unable to get up, unable to even move.
"What... What’s going on?"
The man beside him said, "I’ve heard that Lynn Chester is skilled in using a type of Enchanting Fragrance that instantly makes people lose all their strength."
Quentin Sheffield gritted his teeth. "She came to treat a patient, and she’s damn well carrying that stuff with her!"
"She probably carries it for self-defense..."
"So what do we do now?"
"Don’t worry. The infrared sensors in the courtyard are on. Even if she can handle these thugs, she can’t get past the sensors. She’s not getting out. I’ll call for more men and have them wear gas masks."
Quentin Sheffield nodded. "Alright. Be quick about it."
The man immediately took out his phone to make a call.
Quentin Sheffield watched Chloe Sterling fight, his gaze growing more and more heated. ’What a beautiful, fiery woman.’
’He’d never been with her type before. Conquering a woman like that in bed would be incredible.’
His eyes were glued to her, unable to look away for even a second. He added, "Whatever it takes, we have to capture her today! This woman... I’m going to have her."
The man muttered an affirmative while on the phone.
Soon, Chloe Sterling had dealt with all the thugs.
Quentin Sheffield stared at the bodies strewn across the floor and finally understood why none of those other powers had ever managed to capture her.
"It’s useless even if you beat them. The infrared sensors in the courtyard are on. You can’t get out."
Chloe Sterling glanced at the courtyard outside. A moment later, she took out her phone to check. Sure enough, a dense grid of infrared beams had been activated in the yard. There was no way for her to get out.
Quentin Sheffield smiled. "And the next wave of men will be here any minute. You should just give up."
An icy frost filled Chloe Sterling’s beautiful eyes. She walked toward him step by step. Quentin Sheffield then caught a whiff of a fragrance. He realized what it was and quickly covered his mouth, but he soon discovered it was useless.
His hand fell limply. Strength drained from his limbs, and he collapsed to the ground in an instant.
The man beside him was so terrified he didn’t dare move a muscle.
Chloe Sterling glanced at the ground, then picked up a dagger from the floor. She asked in a cold voice, "Do you want to live, or do you want to turn off the infrared sensors?"
Quentin Sheffield looked at the dagger in her hand, genuinely starting to panic. But he wasn’t one to be easily intimidated. He didn’t believe this woman would actually dare to kill him.
Besides, he’d already investigated her. Plenty of people had tried to capture Lynn Chester, but she had never killed anyone.
He looked her in the eye and said, "I want to live, but I’m not turning off the infrared. Do you really dare to kill me?"
Chloe Sterling didn’t waste time on words. With a flick of her hand, she slashed a cut across his thigh.
