Chapter 64: Chapter 64: This Is the OB/GYN Department, You’re Not Pregnant Too, Are You?

"Theo, what are you doing back?"

Clara Langley hurried over, stepping directly in front of Theodore Grant. "Didn’t you say you had a meeting today?"

Only then did Theodore Grant realize Clara Langley was there too. He frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Clara Langley quickly replied, "Mr. Lombard said your mother’s condition was improving, so he asked me to come help decorate her bedroom. He thought it would make her feel more comfortable when she’s discharged from the hospital."

’How ironic,’ I thought. ’She’s the one who put my mother-in-law in the hospital, and here she is, putting on this fake act...’

But just then—

The image I’d glimpsed through the crack in the door flashed through my mind.

’Clara Langley said she was decorating my mother-in-law’s bedroom?’

’But I just saw Vincent Lombard having an affair with someone...’

’Could it be—’

An absurd and outrageous idea flooded my mind...

But the moment the thought appeared, I dismissed it.

’Impossible!’

’I must be overthinking things.’

’Besides, Clara Langley is pregnant right now. It couldn’t have been her.’

"Is my mom doing much better?" Theodore Grant’s brow unfurrowed as he looked at Clara Langley.

"I haven’t been to the hospital to see her recently, I just heard it from Mr. Lombard..." Clara Langley said, reaching out to take Theodore Grant’s arm. "Why don’t we go visit her at the hospital later? We can tell her the news about my pregnancy. She’ll definitely be happy. It might even be enough to wake her up."

I narrowed my eyes, the look in them turning cold. ’If my mother-in-law found out Clara Langley was carrying Theodore Grant’s child, she’d be furious enough to die. How could she possibly be happy?’

Theodore Grant seemed to notice my expression. He obviously knew his mother detested Clara Langley more than anyone. He pressed his lips together and pulled his arm away from her, then said in a flat voice, "Let’s talk about it another time."

’Now that Theodore Grant was back, it would be impossible for me to get into my mother-in-law’s room again.’

"I’m leaving now."

Seeing me turn to leave, Theodore Grant instinctively moved to follow. "I’ll walk you out..."

"No need."

Theodore Grant tried to follow, but Clara Langley grabbed him. "What are you doing? She’s clearly not grateful. Why are you still shamelessly chasing after her...?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

"Fine, fine, fine, I’m talking nonsense."

Hearing the two of them flirting and bickering behind me, I quickened my pace down the stairs.

But just then, a sudden, sharp pain seized my lower abdomen. I quickly grabbed the banister for support, sensing something trickling out from below.

Panic seized my heart. I rushed to the bathroom, and when I saw a smear of bright red on my underwear, the world started to spin.

’What... What’s happening?’

’Was it from when Vincent Lombard shoved me against the wall earlier?’

Panicked, I quickly straightened my clothes and came out, my face pale as I headed straight for the exit.

"Miss Joyce, everything’s loaded. Shall we go?" At that moment, the moving truck driver saw me and hurried over.

"I have an emergency and need to go to the hospital right now. Can you take my things to the apartment for me?" I said, handing the driver the key to my old place. "Just unlock the door and put everything inside. Thank you."

"But... that’s against company policy..."

"I’ll pay extra."

"Alright then..."

I didn’t have time to say anything more to the driver. I quickly hailed a cab and headed for the nearest hospital.

On the way, feeling completely lost, I called Chloe Miller.

"Chloe, I’m spotting..."

"What?! What happened?!"

"I just went back to the Grant estate, and Vincent Lombard pushed me against a wall..."

"That old bastard!" Chloe Miller cursed. She was frantic, but she didn’t forget to comfort me. "Chelsea, don’t be scared. Are you on your way to the hospital now? Which one? I’m heading over right away."

"Kington University Hospital."

"Okay, I’ll be there soon."

After hanging up, I took a deep breath, trying hard to calm myself down.

But just then, another twisting pain shot through my lower abdomen, followed by another warm gush.

I clutched my abdomen as tears streamed uncontrollably down my face.

’Baby, please don’t leave Mommy...’

...

When I arrived at the hospital, the doctor heard my symptoms and immediately ordered an ultrasound.

Lying on the examination table, I felt the cold gel spread across my belly. As the female technician moved the ultrasound probe back and forth, my heart leaped into my throat.

"Doctor, how is my baby?"

The technician hung the probe back on the machine. "Don’t worry, the baby’s still there..."

Hearing that the baby was okay, my heart, which had been lodged in my throat, finally settled back into my chest.

She put a few paper towels on my stomach for me to wipe off the gel and get dressed. Then her tone shifted. "However, the results aren’t great. You should talk to the doctor about the specifics."

My heart jumped back into my throat. After thanking her, I rushed out of the examination room.

"Chelsea!"

Just then, Chloe Miller came rushing over. "How is it? The baby? Is it still there?"

I nodded. "It is."

"You scared me to death." Chloe Miller let out a long sigh of relief.

Soon, Chloe Miller and I returned to the doctor’s office.

As the doctor reviewed the report, Chloe Miller and I held our breath, our faces tense, afraid he would deliver bad news.

"The pregnancy is unstable..." The doctor frowned, looking particularly concerned. "The check-up a few days ago was fine, wasn’t it? Why the sudden spotting?"

"Someone pushed me, and I hit a wall."

"How could you be so careless?" The doctor’s brow furrowed tightly. "Didn’t they know you’re pregnant? The first trimester is the most critical time to avoid exhaustion and impact. You have to be careful from now on."

"I will. Thank you, Doctor."

"You need to be on bed rest for the next few days. Don’t get up and walk around. Focus on resting and protecting the pregnancy."

The doctor then carefully went over other precautions for the first trimester, especially emphasizing the need for absolute bed rest to protect the pregnancy. He told me to avoid exertion, keep my emotions stable, and monitor myself closely, returning to the hospital immediately if anything changed.

Finally, he offered a word of reassurance. "Don’t be too nervous. As long as you get through the first trimester safely and the fetus stabilizes, there shouldn’t be any more major issues."

"Thank you, Doctor."

Chloe Miller and I left the doctor’s office and went to the pharmacy to pick up the medication.

Once that was all taken care of, we prepared to head home.

But just then, I heard an all-too-familiar voice. "Theodore, my stomach hurts so much! You don’t think something’s wrong with the baby, do you? I’m so scared..."

My back went rigid. I never, ever expected to run into Theodore Grant and Clara Langley here.

Chloe Miller was clearly flustered too. She instinctively tried to pull me into a nearby stairwell to hide.

"Chelsea Joyce?"

But of course, the sharp-eyed Clara Langley spotted me, giving me no chance to escape. "What are you doing here?!"

Seeing that we couldn’t hide, Chloe Miller and I had no choice but to turn and look at her coldly.

But her brow twitched as her gaze swept over my stomach. "This is the obstetrics and gynecology department. Don’t tell me you’re pregnant, too?"
