On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 50: Who Are You Hitting On? Call Her Sister-in-Law
Soon, all the dishes were on the table.
My attention was immediately captivated by the delicious-looking food.
"Try this stir-fried cartilage."
Sebastian Forrest ladled a bowlful and handed it to me. "It’s a stir-fry with all sorts of wild mushrooms and pork cartilage. The cartilage soaks up the sauce, so it tastes pretty good."
I quickly took a bite—it was more than just "pretty good." It was absolutely divine, tender and savory. ’My taste buds feel like they’re exploding with fireworks!’
"Mmm, this is so delicious."
"Slow down." Sebastian Forrest chuckled and passed me a napkin. "The food here is decent. At the very least, the ingredients are clean and fresh."
I just nodded and kept eating, too preoccupied to speak.
I suppose I have this pregnancy to blame.
’It seems the baby in my belly is a little foodie, too.’
Ever since getting pregnant, aside from being unable to stand the smell of smoke or alcohol, I’d had almost no morning sickness. Instead, I spent every day trying to find new ways to satisfy my cravings for good food.
Other than that, the baby hardly gave me any trouble. ’He must be a good, obedient little one.’
"There’s also this braised baby goat leg. It doesn’t look like it has many ingredients, but the preparation is quite complex. It’s fried, then boiled, and finally braised. That said, the flavor is just average. When I have time, I’ll make it for you. It’ll be much better than this."
As I took a bite of the lamb, I couldn’t help but look up at him. ’This... this is already delicious! And he’s saying he can make it even better?’
His one sentence sent my expectations through the roof.
I even started thinking that after we got back from Varden, I’d go to the market, buy a baby goat leg, and have Sebastian Forrest cook it for me.
By the end of the meal, I was completely stuffed.
"Let’s go. There’s a mall right next door. We can go buy you some clothes and walk off the meal at the same time." Sebastian Forrest stood up, his jacket draped over his arm.
"Is that necessary? I have presentable clothes. I definitely won’t embarrass you, Senior Forrest..."
Sebastian Forrest gave me a half-smile. "Are you sure you have clothes suitable for an occasion like meeting the parents?"
The phrase "meet the parents" made me freeze for a moment, and I wondered if I had misheard him.
Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. "I forgot to tell you. This time, I have to bring a girlfriend with me to see The Matriarch in Varden. Otherwise, the old lady won’t see me."
"Huh? Then..." I was at a complete loss. "You... why didn’t you say so sooner?"
"If I’d told you sooner, would you have agreed?"
"..." ’I definitely wouldn’t have.’
Sebastian Forrest’s eyes were deep and full of amusement. "I did ask you beforehand. I asked if you were afraid I’d sell you off. You’re the one who said you weren’t."
"..."
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Who would have thought Sebastian Forrest would pull a stunt like this?
Even more unbelievable was that a random joke Chloe Miller once made had actually hit the nail on the head.
"But, my situation..." I still had my reservations.
"It’s fine." But before I could finish, Sebastian Forrest smiled. "Your status as my savior is more useful than any other."
"Honestly, I didn’t want to trick you. It’s just that The Matriarch has been breathing down my neck. If I don’t bring a girl to see her soon, she’ll probably come to Kington with her cane to break my legs."
"But don’t worry. I’m bringing someone back either way. If she’s not satisfied with you, isn’t that perfect? You’re just helping me put on a show."
On second thought, I realized Sebastian Forrest had a point.
If he found any other girl, given how eager Madam Forrest was for her grandson to get married, she’d probably approve as long as the girl’s circumstances weren’t too terrible.
But someone like me—divorced and pregnant with my ex-husband’s child—would never get past Madam Forrest.
"Alright. A favor for a favor." I finally gave in. "Then I’ll go to Varden with you and put on a show, Senior Forrest."
Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. "Deal."
...
Early the next morning, Sebastian Forrest and I were on a plane to Varden.
This was my first time visiting Varden.
When the plane landed at Vaeldane Airport, Sebastian Forrest and I navigated through the bustling crowd, taking in the city’s unique charm, which was so different from Kington’s.
For once, Sebastian Forrest was dressed formally today in a well-tailored gray suit that accentuated his tall, long-legged frame, broad shoulders, and narrow waist.
He wasn’t wearing a tie, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing his prominent Adam’s apple and a hint of his collarbone, giving him a wild, rakish air. He turned heads everywhere we went.
"Tired? Hungry?"
As we were about to exit the airport, Sebastian Forrest glanced over at me. "Should I take you to get something to eat first?"
I quickly shook my head. "No, it’s fine. I’m not hungry."
Sebastian Forrest’s lips twitched. "Someone will probably be here to pick us up as soon as we get outside. It’s time to get into character."
Hearing that, I immediately perked up and nodded at him. "Don’t worry, Senior Forrest. I’m ready."
Sebastian Forrest let out a soft laugh, then suddenly reached out and took my hand. I was startled by the gesture and subconsciously tried to pull away.
"This is what you call being ready?"
"..."
Sebastian Forrest just smiled and didn’t say anything more, but his fingers tightened around mine, lacing between them.
I couldn’t help but take a deep breath, my palm starting to feel a little sweaty.
And so, hand in hand, we walked out of the airport. A very flashy, sapphire-blue convertible was parked by the curb. Passersby kept turning to look, but the man leaning against the car in sunglasses remained perfectly still.
"Sebastian!"
The moment the man saw Sebastian Forrest, he took off his sunglasses and came over with a wide grin.
"I was starting to think you weren’t coming! I’ve been waiting for over an hour!"
As he spoke, he took the luggage from Sebastian Forrest’s hand, and his gaze swept over me. "And who is this beautiful young lady...?"
Sebastian Forrest smacked him on the head. "Enough with the ’beautiful young lady’! Who do you think you’re hitting on? Call her your sister-in-law!"
The man immediately flashed me a grin, showing off two rows of perfectly white teeth. "Hey, Sis-in-law."
Sebastian Forrest nodded in satisfaction before putting his arm around my shoulders and giving them a gentle squeeze. "Gavin Forrest. My younger cousin."
"Hello." I quickly extended my hand for a handshake.
Gavin Forrest grinned and wiped his hand on his clothes before reaching out to shake mine.
SLAP!
But before he could touch my hand, Sebastian Forrest mercilessly smacked it away. "Stop trying to suck up. Go open the car door."
"At your service!" Gavin Forrest wasn’t annoyed at all. He made a mock bow before scurrying over to open the car door.
His antics made me laugh. "Thank you."
"No need to be so formal, Sis-in-law. We’re all family."
