Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 92: The Asvarian Beacon ()
Mernax raised a brow at Neveah’s indifferent reaction, it was not what one would expect of a Princess who was accustomed to being accorded the highest regard.
However to Mernax’s eyes, though he had only observed from a distance, this princess was aloof in nature, he was not certain what to make of her and he did not wish to contemplate it either.
The dragon shifters were not expecting they would travel in person to fetch the Eclipse Princess from the wolf territory and even their king along with them, it had come as a surprise.
Regardless, the Eclipse Princess was here by the King’s will and the will of Lord Xenon, that was all Mernax needed or cared to know.
"Greetings to Your Majesty, King Jian." The group of five fairies greeted ceremoniously, bowing deeply while still passing wary looks to a brooding Xenon.
"Our Lords flew out to the great beacon, they hurry back at news of your arrival. Please come with us to the light hall." They quickly explained.
King Jian hummed in response as he strode past the fairies and headed into the mansion, the rest of the group trailing behind him.
Xenon passed a look to Neveah and then to Mernax before he grunted beneath his breath and followed after King Jian.
Neveah stared after him in confusion, Xenon would not even move an inch away from her before but now he trailed after King Jian after passing her a strange look.
It was not that Neveah minded the distance, but she had spent four days trying to understand these dragon shifters and with each day that passed, the only thing she got to understand was the fact that she could never understand them.
"Lord Xenon is not pleased with the recent arrangement." Mernax said when he noticed Neveah’s look.
"Which is?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.
"There are no females in the light hall, the fae take their laws seriously and so you are not granted entrance, Princess." Mernax stated blankly.
"No females? What law is that?" Neveah asked as she stared at the mansion which was supposedly called the light hall that was off limits to the female gender.
"The law of the fae as I have said, if you seek to know more of it...you may confront the fae yourself." Mernax said.
Neveah frowned slightly but she did not speak further.
"On My Liege’s orders, I am to keep an eye on you for the duration of time we shall tarry here, while Lord Xenon is not to leave My Liege’s side." Mernax said.
"You are to obediently come with me and not cause any trouble." Mernax continued as he began walking in a different direction from the main entrance of the mansion.
It made more sense to Neveah that there was such a reason behind which Mernax struck up s conversation with her, otherwise it would have been much too strange.
Neveah stared after Mernax for a moment before she followed him, ultimately, King Jian called the shots and if Neveah dared disobey, she knew for certain that the presently calm Mernax would not be so calm anymore.
Mernax was familiar with the mansion and so he manoeuvred his way through the courtyard and towards a side path leading around the mansion and Neveah could only trail after him.
As they moved, they passed by a few fairies flying by some distance above and though they took flight like the dragons, their spectral wings fluttering behind them.
They could only fly at a low altitude and not through the clouds like the dragons did, Neveah guessed it was because their wings were too fragile and could not resist the pressure.
The few fairies they encountered as they passed by bowed respectfully to Mernax till he strode past.
"There is a guest abode at the side, you may rest there till My Liege handles his affairs and we take flight. Nourishment and other amenities will be provided for you by the fae." Mernax spoke up after a short time of silence. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Take flight? This is not our destination?" Neveah asked.
She had assumed this was their final landing since they had already arrived at the Asvarian Stronghold, however Neveah admitted she had found this light hall rather lacking if it was to be the renowned Dragon Keep.
"I do not think the Eclipse Princess should concern yourself with such affairs, or any affairs for that matter other than what My Liege has ordered." Mernax replied.
"You should have just said to shut my trap...why be polite about it?" Neveah said blankly.
"Is that an indirect way of saying I have been disrespectful in my speech to you?" Mernax asked.
"I do not speak indirect words, my meaning is as you have heard it. And when I mean to call you out in disrespect, it shall be direct enough." Neveah replied back indifferently.
Neveah had heard all sorts of insults and had been shamed in every manner in her lifetime, some words uttered by a dragon shifter was not deserving of a reaction from her.
Mernax grunted beneath his breath as he continued forwards but after a moment, he replied to Neveah’s question.
"This is the Asvarian beacon, a fort at the very edge of the Asvarian Stronghold. The lands we have passed for the past days and the settlements of different races are all part of Asvarian territory."
"The beacon tower gives light to the flight patrol in these parts and is but one of the twenty seven beacon towers in the Asvarian Stronghold."
"This tower is lit by fairy lights that never burns out and the light hall is home to the faes who protect the beacon tower and enriches it’s light, they all are under the service of My Liege." Mernax explained in a reluctant tone.
Neveah raised a brow at Mernax’s words, she had not known any of this but the only assumption which was correct was the fact that this could not be the Dragon’s Keep.
They soon arrived at another mansion, much smaller than the first but lone fairies moved in and out of it, going about their duties.
A fairy flew up to them, bowing low to Mernax.
"I am called Raine, Lord Mernax. I will show the lady to her lodgings, please come with me." The fairy, Raine said before he gestured to the mansion and led the way into it.
Though the mansion was small, it had three floors and was made up of rooms that served as lodging to those who travelled past the Asvarian beacon.
It was like a post house of some sort where temporary lodging was provided to travellers and also a check point for entry and exit to the stronghold.
It was also the first line of defence against foreign invasion and the fortress protecting the settlements beyond stronghold.
They soon arrived at a room on the second floor and the fairy came to a stop.
"Here we are. The magic of the light is rare and sacred, our laws forbid females into our light hall, but you may rest easy here. I will return with nourishment in a short time." Raine assured as he headed away
Once the fairy had disappeared down the hall, Neveah pushed open the door and peered in.
The room was decently sized and well decorated with a moderate sized bed, couches, a hammock and a reading table all set at different points.
Everything within was made from polished wood and there was a light fragrance of fresh flowers in the air.
"Go on in and do whatever it is you need. I will stand guard at your door and call for you when My Liege is ready to depart." Mernax said.
Neveah did not argue, she was in terrible need of a warm bath to soothe her aching muscles and headed into the room, shutting the door behind her.
When her door was shut, Neveah headed towards the only adjoined room and pushed it open to see a wooden bath already filled with clean water.
Neveah headed over and placed her hand into the bath, she was not certain if the Asvarian Stronghold would have the same mechanisms as the Eclipse Domain did.
Feeling around the base of the bath, Neveah was relieved to feel the heating knob and she turned it up and felt the water begin to heat up.
Neveah left the water heating up, locking the door of the washroom, she stripped out of her clothing and stepped into the bath tub, humming in approval at the temperature.
Neveah stepped into the bath and sat down, leaning her head against the edge, she just laid there and let the heated water ease her aching muscles before she glanced around and reached for the soap bar.
Neveah washed herself, taking her time since she did not have any reason to hurry and after a little over a halfway, she stepped out of the bath and drained the water.
But it was only then Neveah realized she did not have a change of clothing in hand,
