Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 722: Another Wait ()
"Ron... how are we going with that?" Neveah asked, she hissed lowly as the mage’s magic surged into her veins, leaving a sensation like the prickling of heated needles right underneath her skin.
It was unfamiliar and uncomfortable and Neveah had been forewarned about it.
The magic invading Neveah’s veins was not enough to kickstart the procedure, it was just enough to test Neveah’s compatibility with the mage’s magic before any further invasion was approved.
Everon grunted beneath his breath from where he sat at the table, translating the scroll. "A moment."
He gestured for Tara to fetch him something which she quickly did before returning to stand by his side.
"Your internal constitution has completely adapted to its own kind of magic, magic of very ancient and unidentified roots. It will naturally reject mine."
"I will have to run a few more tests to confirm your level of tolerance but I predict the best course of action will be to introduce my magic slowly to minimise the pain you will feel, but pain cannot be completely avoided." The mage related to Neveah, his tone was wary in the light of Xenon’s glare fixed on him.
"Do what you have to do... and do it fast." Neveah asserted.
"Ron...?" Neveah called again, her movement was restricted by the mage who requested she lay still and so she could only watch Everon’s activities from where she lay.
"I... I need another minute here." Everon said apologetically.
"Run your tests, we can only begin when Everon approves." Xenon said to the mage, unconsciously stroking Neveah’s hair in a bid to calm her.
"How are things in the audience hall?" Neveah asked Xenon, leaning into his touch.
"Imagor sent word. Kirgan discovered traces of magic portals on Mount Edar, the academy of magic have identified it to be ancient Fae magic which can possibly override our portal blocks. The council has been covened and Lodenworth and Keila should arrive soon." Xenon related to Neveah.
"It is already out of hand now that the council is involved." Neveah murmured with a quiet sigh.
"You should go over there, the council will want to hear from you, alongside Verothrax." Neveah replied.
Xenon hesitated for a moment then he nodded, he leaned down and placed a kiss on Neveah’s forehead before he strode over to Everon. They exchanged a few words before Xenon took his leave.
"Do you really think Keila would do all this? Go as far as endangering Zephyroth? Keila and Kaliana have been confidants for decades." Tara said in concern, coming to stand beside Neveah.
Neveah passed a look at the mage before she returned her attention to Tara.
"I do not know. If she is not involved, she will provide the council with an explanation and exonerate herself from guilt." Neveah responded wearily.
Tara nodded, going over to assist Everon who got up to his feet, walking over to the bookshelf, he anxiously searched for something
"I will need more time, Veah. These blueprints are more complicated than expected. I have sent a portal letter to Garron to observe some parts of it, I will need his keen eyes." Everon relayed as he retrieved a book and headed back to his seat.
"How long till you are ready to perform the procedure?" Neveah asked the mage.
"The artifacts I set up will fully activate under moonlight, empowering the pendant that connects with its pair in any dimension. And by then, we must be ready to perform the dream walking spell, or the artifacts will lose their power and we cannot try again anytime soon." The mage explained to Neveah.
Neveah nodded, it was just approaching noon, there was still some time.
"Relax Veah. You will need your strength." Tara chipped in from where she stood beside Everon.
Neveah nodded slowly, her eyes went closed and she tried to relax her mind, as the mage carried out the tests.
It was not long before the door came open and Xenon stormed in, he was not alone too, Kirgan accompanied him and neither of the two looked pleased.
"What is it? How did the council go?" Neveah asked warily.
Everon also glanced up, studying the expression of Xenon and Kirgan.
"Dismissed. Lodenworth and Keila did not show up." Kirgan relayed.
Xenon grunted beneath his breath and took a seat beside Neveah.
"Did they not receive our summons?" Everon asked, choosing the most plausible explanation.
"They did receive it." Kirgan replied, his tone tight.
"They disregarded our summons then?" Neveah asked knowingly.
"Worse. Lodenworth and Keila have left their place of assignment, they were last spotted some miles from the Fae royal forest." Kirgan explained. "The council has dispersed to enquire appropriately without making assumptions, but it would seem like they sought refuge with the Fae."
"If they have nothing to hide..." Kirgan trailed off, but everyone already knew the words that would complete that statement.
If Lodenworth and Keila had nothing to hide, why would they disregard the summons and instead make flight for the Fae territory with which the dragons currently shared tensions?
"Have any further communication been established?" Neveah asked.
"They are in Fae royal territory. The Fae sealed communication channels a long while ago." Kirgan reminded.
"Adrienne requested the council to fly out with Menarx and speak with Keila. The council approved, they departed immediately." Kirgan added.
"Then what? We wait to hear if they ran off to Fae territory for personal reasons or to avoid questioning by the council?" Tara asked aloud.
"This is... Lodenworth we speak of. We absolutely must hear him out, I do not believe he would turn on us, he is not the kind and the council are of the same opinion." Kirgan replied
"Fine. We wait then. Verothrax?" Neveah asked about the one person who would not be willing to be as patient.
"Displeased by the council’s decision. But he will abide. Adrienne will attempt to establish communication with her kin on the way, we should hear back from Menarx before nightfall." Kirgan finished.
"Another day... another wait. I hope it will be worth it." Neveah murmured quietly.
