Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 703: Mount Edar ()
"You are just going to sit?" Celeste asked incredulously, her disdainful gaze fixed on Neveah.
Neveah again suppressed the urge to lash out. She had dealt sufficient damage to Celeste which had left the dark fairy heavily injured, it was already a wonder the dark fairy was still conscious despite losing so much blood.
Neveah knew she could not risk causing Celeste any further harm, the dark fairy was neither a dragon who was hardly injured or a werewolf who healed swiftly, her healing pace was indeed far better than humans but still fell short, any more harm and she truly would die.
Every second spent together was disturbing to both parties, Neveah could at least relate with Celeste’s unease, but it was no concern of hers.
"So it would seem. Unless of course, you have a better idea. In which case, marvel me." Neveah replied,
Neveah crossed her arms and her eyes went closed.
"It is your job to figure out how to rescue the dragon spawn, what does it have to do with me?!" Celeste hissed, her tone hoarse as she was most likely still in pain.
"Or do you have little care, given as he is not yours? You shouldn’t be so hateful, even if you may never have one of your own." Celeste added as an afterthought.
Neveah knew what Celeste was doing, she was grating on Neveah’s nerves intentionally to get her to lose composure and slip up.
Celeste did not even know who had come to rescue her, yet she hoped to aid them in some way by unsettling Neveah.
"You also have no children from what I know... and you have lived far longer than I have. I do not think I am the one who should be worried about starting a family." Neveah murmured casually.
Celeste’s nose flared in rage but she knew better than to escalate the already tense situation.
"Dragon spawn... I will not hear that condescending word again. That is if you wish to return to your place in one piece." Neveah clarified without glancing over.
"If you don’t do anything, then I will find the way myself!" Celeste hissed.
"There is no stable path in Mount Edar... and you have no wings." Neveah reminded and she said nothing else, neither did she attempt to prevent Celeste from storming off.
Neveah knew Celeste could not go far, this terrain was too treacherous even for one of the Fae.
’Can you find his scent trace?’ Neveah thought to her wolf.
’It will be tasking, the strong winds at this height swiftly disperse scents and the mountain is vast. It is difficult to narrow down a single scent.’ Neveah’s wolf thought back to her.
’Take the time you need.’ Neveah thought back.
Neveah stayed in place her expression furrowed in concentration. And after a long moment, her eyes came open just as a small whisper orb rolled to a stop by the boulder.
The follow up message had arrived but Neveah was yet to determine if Zephyr was truly present on this mountain, his scent was difficult to track down.
Neveah leaned down and picked it up, and the message within gave the next directions.
’Alone...away from the eyes we both know are trailing you. The boy awaits...you can find your way, princess.’ The message read and disappeared just as quickly as it had the first time.
Neveah’s hands clenched into fists, the threat in the message was subtle, but Neveah could easily pick up on it.
Neveah glanced over at the neighboring mountain peak and then the vantage point from Dragon Keep, there was also the open sky above, she was not certain how many eyes were on her at the moment but to get away from them... Neveah did know how.
She had not explored Mount Edar, there had been no reason to, but Neveah had studied the layout, she knew where Xenon would go when he did not want to be disturbed.
And Xenon knew the eyes of his kin were always in the skies, there were only a few points on Mount Edar that was completely hidden from the view of dragon flight.
Getting up to her feet, Neveah trailed after Celeste, knowing the dark fairy had not gone far and Neveah arrived just in time to catch a hold of the chains just as the thin ledge Celeste stood on gave away, rocks rolling down and disappearing through the fog.
"Silver..." Neveah hissed quietly, recognizing the silver coating of the chains from the burning effect it left on her hands.
’Silver has no notable effect on fairies, why has the academy of magic used it on the chains?’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her,
Neveah frowned slightly, catching onto her wolf’s suspicion.
’They could not have known we would be the ones to escort Celeste.’ Neveah thought back.
’Stay away from the silver. It’s just coating, but it is pure and potent.’ Neveah’s wolf cautioned her.
Nevertheless, Neveah pulled Celeste to safety first.
"Stay closer to the mountain and away from the edge. This should be common knowledge." Neveah pointed out.
"What do you know?!" Celeste snapped, once again shrugging off Neveah’s hands.
Neveah winced visibly but she let go off the chain, clenching her hand into a fist to hide the burn.
"The way." Neveah replied simply before she went around Celeste and led the way.
The thin ledge going around the mountain split up into two paths once they had reached stable ground.
It took a short walk, but soon, all the vantage points including that from Dragon Keep had been obstructed by the layout of Mount Edar and Neveah was not surprised when a pitch black mist amassed ahead of them.
Celeste made to hasten ahead but Neveah caught onto the chain and pulled her back and just in time too as a sharp, red dart shot right past where Celeste had been. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
It pierced into the rock behind and thin red veins swiftly spread from it, degrading the rock that crumbled and sealed off their retreat.
"I believe your life was only ever meant to be the bait, Celeste..." Neveah murmured as she took a few cautious steps back.
’I can pick up Zephyr’s scent! It’s faint but he is close!’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
