Chapter 691: Someone Else (Ch.692)

"I have never witnessed a more vibrant shade on a bloom. It is a beauty, is it not?" Keila asked, her tone devoid of any emotion.

One could not tell if she was truly fascinated as her words indicated, or there was a deeper meaning and intent to her words that had nothing to do with blooms and fascination.

Of course, there was no response given and it was not known if Keila had expected any from the horrified clan representatives who were too shocked to utter even a sound.

Keila finally shifted her attention from the freshly bloomed red flowers to the dozens of horrified eyes fixed on her from all around the Gathering Meadow.

"Why the strange looks on your faces? You wished to witness the ability of the Fae royal lineage, you said to prove worth...you said relying on past glory will no longer be enough..."

"I would say, this would suffice. And if it does not, I am willing to prove some more..." Keila trailed off as her gaze settled on Lord Fintan.

Keila’s words were clearly a veiled threat, one she clearly had the abilities to follow through with. If what had just happened was any indication.

But it was still difficult for the clan representatives to understand exactly what had just happened.

"Do you not find it unreasonable to judge the royal lineage incapable simply based on my aunt alone? I mean, my aunt may represent the royal lineage...but she is not the sole measure of our ability." Keila continued, passing a fleeting glance to Lady Diandre.

"Her... failures, are hers alone. What rights have this council to deny my sister and I a chance at our birthright? Do you truly believe the royal lineage has no cards left to play? Did you really think it would ever be your turn?" Keila asked in a dark tone.

"You... how?" Lord Fintan asked in complete astonishment and even an undertone of awe, despite the situation.

Lord Fintan’s question hinted at the very question on the mind of all the clan representatives present and even Lady Diandre herself.

The ability Keila had just wielded was nothing like nature magic, it was something more and those who had been privileged to witness the arcane magic of the High Queen back in the day would recognize it at first sight.

"How does the Fae royal sister without promise wield arcane magic?" Keila completed the question that was on everyone’s mind.

She shrugged casually, but gave no response and instead glanced around the Gathering Meadow.

"Lord Fintan, you are amongst the finest of the Fae and I still have use for you. It would be such a waste if I have to be rid of you over such a trivial issue. Hence, someone has had to take your place...if you understand my words, return to your place. Where you stand...is mine to stand." Keila said after a moment of quiet.

Lord Fintan’s brows furrowed slightly, he glanced over at the newly blooming flowers and then back at Keila, there seemed to be a silent understanding between them and then he lowered his head to a bow, retreating back to his place.

"The clan representatives gathered here out of their concern for the future and fate of our people, this I understand and respect. You all hope for a new dawn, one my aunt has been unable to provide..."

"Lord Fintan will not be able to give you that either, but I can." Keila stated, her gaze moved over to a still shocked Lady Diandre.

Keila walked over to the front of the gathering and stopped.

"Aunt, you have outdone yourself. You should step down now and leave all your concerns to me." Keila stated in a blank monotone.

The Gathering Meadow was in pin drop silence, a moment ago, it seemed Keila had arrived to defend the royal lineage and disrupt the challenge,

However at this moment, it was clear that the challenge would still hold, the only thing that was different was the challenger.

"How did you...wield the arcane abilities?" Lady Diandre asked, still unable to comprehend.

"It is not mine...it belongs to someone else..." Keila said,

Keila’s hand moved to rest on her lower abdomen, where Lodenworth’s child grew and Lady Diandre’s eyes widened.

"Then... the child is...of our kind?" Lady Diandre asked in surprise.

"How else could this have happened? As she grows, I feel her strength filling me... enabling abilities I never thought possible. My child...is truly free of the shackles of our bloodline’s curse." Keila said, her eyes gleaming with delight.

"The dragon blood in her veins frees her completely from the debt our bloodline owes to the dragon royals. She is unbound... she is powerful... she will be the true returned High Queen." Keila turned to face the clan representatives.

"But this makes her a threat to the powers that be. She will be born into dangers not even her father can protect her from... only the power of the Fae can keep her safe."

"And so, I have realized that I can no longer remain detached. I must pave the way for my daughter before her arrival... I must ensure the true greatness of our race is restored to her hands."

"And each and everyone of you will help me achieve that, even at the cost of your lives." Keila said in a firm tone.

"From this moment, my aunt will remain as the Fae royal representative but all relevant decisions and orders will come directly from me. Does anyone have any opposition?" Keila asked, her gaze roaming around the gathering meadows.

The gathering meadows remained in pin drop silence and no one dared speak.

"Is Lodenworth...aware you are out here?" Lady Diandre finally broke the silence with a hesitant question.

"Why? Do you plan on telling him?" Keila replied with a question of her own.

"No...but..." Lady Diandre began to say but Keila interrupted her.

"If you understood my words from earlier, you should vacate that position as I will need a place to sit. As my child grows, weariness comes swiftly to me... unless of course, you intend to oppose it." Keila pointed out.
