Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 667: Ominous ()
"Imagor will return soon. He knows you have been poisoned, he would want to know how. You will have to decide, what you wish to do about it." Neveah said to Menarx after a moment of quiet.
"I...not before I have spoken with her myself. Veah...you cannot speak of this to anyone, I will have my own ways to distract Imagor." Menarx said in a low tone.
Neveah stared at Menarx in disbelief for a moment, she had heard, that dragons were such great lovers that they fell into the web of love completely and absolutely... and there was not a single word of lie to that statement.
The Menarx she knew was far more rational than this, but Neveah guessed this was what the true mate bond fully merged meant, that Adrienne was Menarx’s world and he could not be rational when it came to her affairs.
’We should tell him, that they may have been involved in revealing word of our presence in Dragon Keep to the Black Network. If he knows the Fae sisters put us in danger, that should be the best confirmation and clear his mind.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her.
’We do not know that for sure, we only know she saw us, it could have been someone else...or Keila alone...’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.
’We know by now the pair of sisters always cover up for each other. If not them, who then?’ Neveah’s wolf posed a direct question.
Neveah did not respond, she got up to her feet and fetched the wine flask from the table it lay, whilst Menarx watched her.
She lifted it to her nose, taking a whiff of the smell. Before she opened it and dipping a hand into it, she brought a droplet of the liquid to her lips.
"Veah! What do you think you are doing?!" Menarx exclaimed in horror.
"The herb that paralyzes dragons is usually a lethal poison to the rest of us. A drop will not be potent enough to kill me...but it will have its own effect. I will be able to tell soon enough, if this contained the herb. But for now..."
"Let us trust then, if you have chosen to do so." Neveah muttered beneath her breath.
Neveah took the flask over to a drain and she emptied the contents of the flask away, shaking it so nothing was left behind and then she replaced the cap and walked back over to Menarx.
"You will speak to her..." Neveah began, crouching down so she was on level with Menarx.
She placed the wine flask in the inner pocket of Menarx’s robes and then restored his robes back to the position they had been.
"And you will do it... today." Neveah finished. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Menarx winced visibly at Neveah’s words but he nodded slowly.
"But before you are able to, I will keep this to myself...so it is all left to your own judgement, Narx. Just know this... that a harm to you, is a harm to your brothers, to Xenon, to Jian...to me..." Neveah trailed off, fixing her gaze on Menarx’s.
"If you have no care for yourself, you dishonor your Liege. If you can overlook it, we will not...not this time around." Neveah made clear, hinting at a previous occurrence that they both knew clearly about.
Menarx lowered his head in guilt, and Neveah sighed.
"And it is also best, to be freed of your doubts...it may not even be her and you will question it in silence for the rest of your life if you do not ask." Neveah paused for a moment.
"You have begun healing already, the effect of the herb should also fade in a moment, you should send for Everon and make Kirgan aware of...as much as you are willing. I will go check on Imagor, he should have returned by now." Neveah said to Menarx.
"The underground prison district is a maze, they will attempt to hide and Imagor will have to hunt, but Imagor knows his way around...you do not. Imagor will be fine on his own, he will hunt down the sorcerers wherever they are hiding. You should stay..." Menarx told Neveah in concern.
"I do know the sorcerers stand no chance against Imagor, but the prisoners are vulnerable and at risk. If a prisoner in the district has been hurt... Imagor will also be at a loss."
"For whatever reason they have infiltrated your district, we cannot let them have their way regardless. And you said it yourself...no one dies here without your consent." Neveah said to Menarx in a casual tone.
"Is that really it? Or are you just that disappointed in me?" Menarx asked Neveah.
Neveah did not respond, it was not easy on the eyes to see Menarx confused on what was right and what was not, but it involved his beloved one... what could she say?
"Forgive me, Veah... I swore to love you and protect you, but I have done you too many wrongs. Even now... I should not be asking this of you...not you of all people." Menarx said in a pained tone.
"You owe me no apologies...and I hold no grudges. You have found yours...as I have mine." Neveah murmured.
Neveah’s gaze lingered on Menarx for a moment before she got up to her feet and headed deeper into the district, following the trail of Imagor’s scent.
It was not such an easy feat, the underground dungeons were thick with a host of unpleasant stenches, from the musty stench of the damp space, to the pungent stench of blood and unwashed bodies,
Though it was much more mild within Menarx’s district than the actual dungeons, picking out one scent in particular out of the many was a task.
It was easier within the central cell hall of Menarx’s district, but as Neveah ventured deeper in, it got more difficult to track down Imagor’s scent trail.
There were more empty cells than occupied cells in Menarx’s district, the underground dungeons itself covered a great expanse, the entire basement level of the Keep and Menarx’s district was a major part of that size.
However, not every criminal was qualified to be handled by Menarx directly and so Menarx’s district only hosted the highest profile criminals.
There were still quite a few of them, if the scent trails Neveah picked up on was anything to go by.
’This place feels ominous.’ Neveah’s wolf pointed out as they took a turn down another cell hallway.
