Chapter 653: I Dare (Ch.654)

Neveah tried to keep on a calm facade as Jian pulled away, but she realised she had failed terribly when he laid a hand over her trembling hand, interlocking their fingers.

He lifted Neveah’s hand up to his lips, placing a small kiss on the back of her palm. His lips lingered, stirring warmth in Neveah’s heart and offering comfort words could not have.

"I did not foresee that the first occasion my beloved woman would grace my bedchamber would find me on a distant plane... this is torment most profound..." Jian broke the silence after a short moment.

Neveah glanced around her surroundings, only then realising she was still in Jian’s quarters which meant much like the last time, their dreams had been merged to her current surroundings and not Jian’s own dreams.

"I should not have come in without your consent... I just..." Neveah began to say but Jian interrupted her.

"Hush love. All that I possess, by nature is yours. I only loathe that I am not truly by your side," Jian shushed Neveah, preventing her from saying anymore.

"You must come to me soon then, with Xenon. Be with me, whatever else you may desire... make me fully yours." Neveah said in a low tone.

A growl rumbled low in Jian’s throat and he breathed a quiet sigh afterwards.

"We have you waiting for us, there is nothing that can keep us from returning to your side... you know my heart, and you know Xenon’s." Jian said to Neveah in a solemn vow.

"Demevirld..." Neveah began to say but Jian shook his head slightly.

"Take some time, prepare your mind. It will require a lot of Demevirld’s magic to penetrate the wards of the Shadow Tower, and far more control than you have ever attempted." Jian said in a serious tone.

"We should also consult Everon on it, his guidance will help us make a more informed decision. I worry for Xenon, but I cannot endanger you either, he would never approve of it and I cannot risk it also... I cannot afford to cause you harm." Jian continued, his tone conflicted.

Neveah understood Jian was anxious about Xenon, their bond was greater than anything she had ever witnessed and they would always come first to one another,

But now, there was also her, and for that he was hesitant. It was ironic how Neveah had detested how Jian would never hesitate to sacrifice her for his loved ones and his people in the early days in Dragon Keep, but now, that was exactly what she wished he would do.

Neveah shook her head, placing a hand on Jian’s arm.

"It is Xenon, Jian...there is no decision to be made but one. We do whatever it takes." Neveah said firmly, her voice betraying her anxiety.

They both knew, Neveah had been wary of Demevirld for so long and she had gotten glimpses of how terrifying his power could be, it was not easy to suppress the anxiety.

"I know you fear what might become of you if you lose control to Demevirld...you must have seen and felt how maddening it is, having your own mind taken over by a foreign power."

"Believe me, I know that terror more than most. I watched it ruin my father..." Jian trailed off briefly.

"Turn him into a man that I could not recognize... I watched it tear my family apart, breeding greed for a taste of magic in the heart of my brother. And the thought of the same thing happening to you...the thought of Demevirld taking yet another person I love away from me, it horrifies me..." Jian’s tone was pained.

Neveah’s heart ached, with each glimpse of Jian’s past that became known to her, she feared to imagine just how much terrors he had experienced in all these centuries.

"I vowed never to bond with Demevirld, not even if my life was required of me. Yet I never destroyed it... somewhere deep down, I must have coveted it too." Jian murmured in a low tone.

"It is my failure and cowardice that has placed you in this position... and now I ask you to use him, even when the risk of doing so is so great... I have nothing to say for myself." Jian said with a heavy sigh.

"Then say nothing. I trust you, completely... and I trust myself, that I will be strong enough to overcome Demevirld once again. Now, it is you who needs to trust me." Neveah said, staring into Jian’s eyes.

Jian was visibly conflicted but he nodded.

"Tell me what I have to do." Neveah said to Jian.

Jian hesitated for a moment before he spoke.

"Give him control... offer it to him, willingly." Jian said to Neveah.

Neveah clenched her fists tightly, nodding her head. She sucked in a deep breath to strengthen her mind before her eyes went closed.

Neveah reached in, to that foreign power lurking within her mind. It was usually right on the surface of her mind, seeking the slightest opportunity to rear its head.

But this time, Neveah found it harder to reach Demevirld. This time, he lurked at the very depths of her mind, silent as he had been since the water source.

But Neveah pushed until she reached him, her wolf watching from the sidelines.

Neveah could picture him in her mind, a mass of golden magical energy, pulsing dimly as it lounged.

"Omega...if you come to me seeking help, you should lower that pride of yours and grovel." His familiar haunting voice hissed.

Neveah snarled lowly, rage surging within her veins. Her patience was already worn thin with Demevirld and her mind was clouded with worry for Xenon, she did not have the luxury to entertain Demevirld’s antics.

"You are the one who needs me far more than I will ever need you, Demevirld! Of all the hands you touched, you chose me, not only for my ties to Jian, but because I am worthy of you! Because I am Alpha King! Without me, you are nothing!"

"Grovel?! Me?!" Neveah sneered.

"I am not asking for your help, I demand it! You do not own me, I own you! And I swear it, Demevirld...if you push me, I will not hesitate to destroy us both, if that is what it takes to rid the world of you."

"You have lurked long enough in my mind to know my darkness better than anyone else...to know what lengths I can go for those I cherish. This time, it is I who offers you my hand." Neveah paused,

For a moment, there was utter silence in Neveah’s mind and then Demevirld cackled lowly.

"I have waited long enough for you to come into your true self, Neveah..." Demevirld hissed, addressing Neveah by the right name for the first time.

"Neveah Omega Lothaire...born of light blood, Take my hand...if you dare..." He drawled in a low tone.

Those words, and that tone...they sounded eerily familiar, Neveah realized as a chilling cold terror gripped her heart, and a feeling of Deja vu.

Still yet, Neveah gave a response that was all the more familiar to her.

"I dare..." Neveah whispered.
