Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 651: Tell Her ()
Neveah walked down the hallway for a short distance till she arrived at the doors leading to Jian’s private quarters.
Neveah knew where it was because she had woken up here once when Xenon had brought her up to this level while she slept, though she had not lingered and had been taken away by Xenon not long after she awakened.
At the time, she might have lost her head if she had spent even a moment longer. That was how much Jian had detested her.
Neveah’s lips twitched slightly at the memory.
She did not truly know what Jian’s quarters looked like, it had never been her place to be.
Even now, Neveah was not certain why she had come here, perhaps she had done it in hopes that there would be traces of him left, that perhaps she could feel even a tad bit closer to him by being here.
Mount Edar had been Neveah’s first thought, but she could not even afford to step out of these halls or risk ruining their plans by being sighted by the flight patrol.
But now that Neveah was here, she wondered what she had been thinking.
"It has been over a month since he was last here, whatever traces of him that may have been would be long gone..." Neveah muttered to herself.
"Lady Neveah." A familiar voice sounded from behind Neveah.
Neveah glanced over her shoulder, not surprised to find Lord Rodrick stood there. He was Jian’s aide and one of the few who could easily access these halls.
Though Neveah guessed it was no longer easy on the middle aged human, given the heavy fur coat he was swaddled in.
It seemed he had just come out from Jian’s study, and Neveah had been so lost in her own thoughts that she had not even sensed his presence.
Neveah inclined her head slightly to a small bow of respect.
Lord Rodrick returned the gesture, though he offered a deeper bow. There was a look of understanding in his eyes and a small smile on his lips.
Lord Rodrick said nothing, he instead walked over the Neveah, reaching a hand past her, he turned the knob to Jian’s private quarters, pushing the door open and then he stepped back.
He bowed again and continued down the hall in the opposite direction from where he had come out.
Neveah stared after him in silence for a moment before she spoke.
"Davina..." Neveah called out to Lord Rodrick.
Lord Rodrick paused in his steps, perhaps he was surprised that Neveah had finally acknowledged his daughter once again.
After all that had happened then, Neveah still was unable to bring herself to regard Davina in the way she used to, Neveah never spoke of the attendant or even enquired...at least not as far as was known to Lord Rodrick.
It was ironic, that Neveah had now established a somewhat better relationship with Adrienne who was the cause of all the troubles then, compared to Davina who undeniably was a victim.
Neveah guessed it was just how much she had been hurt, because she truly had trusted Davina.
Lord Rodrick turned around before he responded.
"She is well. She left the Keep and now runs a dress shop in the Citadel." Lord Rodrick said.
Neveah nodded slowly, Davina always did have talents in dressmaking. Taking measurements of the noble ladies herself and drafting designs when she could have left all such duties to the dressmakers of the Keep, seeing as she had more duties as the chief attendant.
"It gladdens my heart to hear that she is well. Leaving Dragon Keep behind is also a good result...I would know." Neveah murmured with a nod.
"Shall I convey your regards to her?" Lord Rodrick asked Neveah.
Neveah thought about it for a moment before she shook her head slightly.
"We had best not remind her of past hurts, Davina has found her own path now... amongst her own kind, I do not wish for her to feel guilty towards me anymore." Neveah decided with a shake of her head.
Lord Rodrick sighed quietly but nodded his head. He turned to leave but paused again.
"She is to be wed, My Lady." Lord Rodrick said to Neveah.
Neveah glanced up in surprise, a delighted smile found its way to her lips.
"Truly?" Neveah asked.
"She has spent the past few weeks debating on how to send word of it to you in such times and if you would be willing to receive it...there is a pile of invites with your name, written and rewritten in her shop." Lord Rodrick said with a small chuckle.
"After much deliberation, she decided to extend the date. Till stability is restored to the stronghold. She feels guilty about hosting a celebration at such a time when we all..." Lord Rodrick trailed off.
"Does she know... about Jian and I?" Neveah asked Lord Rodrick.
Lord Rodrick nodded slowly. It was no surprise too, given that Davina’s father was Jian’s trusted aide, if only a handful knew for certain, she would be one of them.
Neveah sighed quietly, Davina was one of the first she had truly considered a friend. Before Everon, before Estelle and Dante, before Tara.
They had spent many good times together, at some point, Xenon and Davina had been the only bright side of being an attendant in Dragon Keep.
"Your daughter... she taught me the ways of the Stronghold...how to survive in Dragon Keep, amongst a race that could crush me with a snap of their fingers."
"I do not think I could have made it this long without her teachings. I was quite the menace in my early days here." Neveah admitted.
Lord Rodrick chuckled at that, nodding his head in agreement.
"Mortals are not graced with the luxury of time. Who can say when the Stronghold will truly know peace?" Neveah murmured, a hint of sadness in her tone.
"Davina’s happiness cannot be shackled to the reality we are faced with...it would be most unfair."
" Tell her, " Neveah continued , her voice softening. "I wish for a dress to accompany the invite, I have not changed much so my measurements would be the same." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"And tell her; I will come, wherever it may be." Neveah finished quietly.
