Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 642: Tasking Responsibilities ()
Neveah stood at the balcony of a conspicuous building in the city of Scabbard and from there, she watched the sun rise in the city in silence.
Though the city of Scabbard itself was still in a state of desolation and the streets were still a mess, Neveah found that the atmosphere of Fort Scabbard was so much more stable than it had been two days before.
The first light of dawn peaked over the horizon, transforming the sky into a breathtaking canvas of colors.
Hues of orange and pink blend seamlessly with soft yellows, creating a warm glow that gradually dispelled the remnants of night and all the darkness that had accompanied it.
The golden rays casted by the radiant sun that had just begun peaking from the horizon cast all that was beneath it in its soft, warm glow.
And Neveah watched intently, as she had been doing since the crack of dawn. She just stared in silence, as the city was slowly lit up by the coming of the morning.
The sunrise was always a beautiful sight, it was the same in Dragon Keep, it was the same in Dune City and even here in the city of Scabbard, despite all that had happened, the sunrise was still an awe inspiring sight.
Perhaps because in these serene moments, time seemed to stand still and if only for a short time, Neveah could pretend that everything was still right with the world.
Perhaps because it was one of the few things she still found herself captivated by regardless of what her present circumstances happened to be... regardless of if she was the lowly Omega, unwanted daughter of the Eclipse Alpha King,
Or if she was Neveah Vairheac, noble by birth and clan, a revered light blood, and beloved by two of the stronghold’s greatest men. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Perhaps because it was just one of life’s simplest pleasures, the kind that made even the most abnormal world seem just a tad bit more normal.
Or perhaps it was because as the sun rose higher, bathing everything in warmth and light, it was a symbolism of new beginnings and endless possibilities.
And Neveah knew above all else, the Scabbard City needed just that ray of warmth enveloping it, in the midst of all the turmoil, the literal light at the end of a dark tunnel.
And Neveah did too... desperately.
Estelle walked up to stand beside Neveah, she did not speak immediately, knowing better than to interrupt the moment of serenity, she just waited in silence, also watching the sunrise,
It was only when Neveah passed Estelle a glance, acknowledging her presence, only then did Estelle speak.
"The riots have been quelled, as word of the contaminated water source spread and the measures already being taken, the commoners have swiftly fallen into order and even volunteer their support to hasten the cleansing of the city." Estelle reported to Neveah,
"Those crowding the streets and camping outside of Scabbard Tower have all returned to their homes. As it is confirmed that the contagion is not communicable, the wards separating the city into parts has also been lowered."
"For the time being, the infected will remain in isolation to be properly treated and they will not be allowed a reunion with their families just yet, until full recovery or reasonable improvement is recorded... just for caution." Estelle carried on with her report.
"It will result in some level of dissent...but what must be done, must be done." Estelle said quietly.
"The same loved ones they do not hesitate to cast out in the bid to protect their own lives? They can surely bear with the distance for a few more days." Neveah murmured in response.
"Veah, do not tell me you are still burdened by that sight..." Estelle sighed at Neveah’s words.
"The innate nature of man is just this way... I do know it, I do not hold these flaws against the people. Life does not afford them many options, if a plague ravages their homes, they can only accept that nature has chosen to be cruel and they are helpless against it..." Neveah murmured.
"They can only make the best they can with the options they have available. I know it better than most." Neveah said.
"Uncle Mycroft has said, it is the responsibility of a leader to ensure his people never have to be confronted with such desperation that this innate nature is forced to manifest..." Estelle recalled the words.
"The responsibility of a leader is so... particular here in the stronghold. The leaders I have known before this time did not have such great responsibilities...or they did not care for it, they were more concerned with making every life around them as great of a tragedy as was possible." Neveah said with a shake of her head.
"Do you find it too tasking?" Estelle asked Neveah.
"Do you?" Neveah replied to Estelle with a raised brow.
Estelle thought over it for a moment before she shook her head.
"As a Starron, I was raised to know I would always take on such grave responsibilities, as much as I wished to escape it. Now, with all that has happened with Dante...with my father, I am willing to do anything, no matter how tasking, if it means everything may return to its rightful place." Estelle admitted truthfully.
"You have grown much, Elle. I would always say it... when I first met you, you seemed more like a child who had just tasted the hardships of life for the first time." Neveah said.
"Now, what do I seem like?" Estelle asked Neveah.
Neveah glanced over at Estelle for a moment before returning her gaze to stare ahead.
"Lady Estelle Starron of Maroon Scales." Neveah replied simply.
"Only dragon lords and riders in direct service to the royal dragon can be afforded such a title as Lord and Lady of Maroon Scales." Estelle reminded.
"I know..." Neveah murmured, but said nothing more.
"I have seen enough. It is time to leave Scabbard, have Everon prepare the portal." Neveah said to Estelle after a moment of silence.
