Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 640: Where It Began 2 ()
Xenon’s brows narrowed at Verothrax, before he passed a glowering look to Ida.
Ida got the message and scurried out of the room, Xenon waited till he was certain Ida had gone far out of earshot before he spoke.
"This destination...it could not have come from my own intent. The portal was diverted, or originally intended for this destination, by you." Xenon said, his tone was certain.
"Why? Why have you brought us here?" Xenon asked in a serious tone.
Verothrax’s sinister gaze settled on Xenon, his dark eyes narrowed into a complicated look.
"Why are you so certain it was I who brought us here? Because you are one of those few of our kind, privileged to have never known what the dark tower looks like?" Verothrax asked, his tone as cold and distasteful as it always was.
"Shall we begin comparing pains and sorrows of the past? Are there any of our kind who had it easy in those days?" Xenon asked blankly, unmoved by Verothrax’s intentionally aggravating words.
Verothrax pursed his lips, turning his gaze away to face ahead.
"I did not bring us here intentionally. I would never return here of my own will even if it was the last place on earth... just, I have slumbered for so many centuries, my memories are in a state of disarray." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"In that moment, my mind must have strayed to the past... the days chained down in this cursed tower." Verothrax murmured.
Xenon was quiet for a moment before he nodded his head.
"We will not be here long. Once you are sufficiently recovered, we will leave immediately...you do not have to get reacquainted with this... place." Xenon said to Verothrax, getting up to his feet.
"Are you not going to ask me what went wrong?" Verothrax asked as Xenon was about to take his leave.
Xenon paused in his step, turning back to face Verothrax, he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Will you tell me if I ask?" Xenon replied with a question of his own.
"I have never failed at controlling my magic, and this was meant to be a simple task, open a void and banish the death gale into oblivion, seal it once again..."
"I was entrusted with it because Our Liege was certain it was within my capacity, and yet I brought disaster instead. As the King’s guard and a pillar of the stronghold, should you not blame and berate me?" Verothrax asked Xenon.
Xenon’s brows furrowed slightly at that and he shook his head.
"Verothrax, you have been in a slumber for centuries. The choice to awaken you was made by us, you have not had enough time to return to your best state... casting blame does not help anybody, we must return and put everything back in order, that is what is most pressing." Xenon replied.
"Even after all this time, after watching me cause so much destruction and take so many lives with my magic, you and Jian still treat me like a child to be coddled. I may be much younger than the rest of you, but I still have my fair share of centuries." Verothrax grumbled.
Xenon tilted his head to the side at Verothrax’s words.
"I did not lose control of my magic, something else interfered." Verothrax added.
Xenon raised a brow, sitting back down by Verothrax’s bedside.
"What is this ’something’?" Xenon asked Verothrax.
"I do not know how to explain it...there is, strange magic in me... something that is not mine and upsets my constitution. I feel it in my veins...it has fueled my magic adversely, resulting in a lack of control..." Verothrax explained uncertainly.
"Strange magic? How is that even..." Xenon began to say but trailed off as he recalled something.
"There has been a pending issue of theft of magical ability from the unsuspecting young generation before their abilities manifest... first it was the dwarves using these stolen magic to reinforce their tunnels and even trading it for gold and other rare items."
"Then a few Fae noble clans were discovered to have had transactions with the dwarves. However, the Fae council managed to deny responsibility by cutting ties with the accused Fae clans..."
"The trade of magical ability was put to an end and all traces of the missing abilities unaccounted for disappeared. Could it be... that was used on you?" Xenon asked Verothrax.
Verothrax frowned slightly, lifting his hand to his view.
"If it is magic from other species, it would make sense why it is so unfamiliar and I can barely control it." Verothrax replied in a serious tone.
"You mean to say, for the past year it took to awaken you from your slumber and recover your strength, someone has been feeding you with the stolen magic ability from those innocent young ones?"
"Which means, the Fae must have gotten to you somehow, knowing we would eventually have use for you...but how could they be so well informed of our every move to even set a trap of this severity?" Xenon said in a low tone.
"My cave is well guarded. No one dares venture close, not even our kin. There was only Lodenworth and Keila responsible for my care... how did the Fae get to me?" Verothrax asked in suspicion.
"Keila..." Verothrax hissed beneath his breath.
"Damn it!" Xenon grunted in silent fury.
As much as Xenon did not wish to believe it, the answer was obvious to both him and Verothrax, there was only one Fae who had gotten within close proximity of Verothrax in his vulnerable state and that was Lodenworth’s rider.
"The Fae Clan would not make such a move for no reason. They must also have been well informed that Jian would go for Fort Blazed in person, which means their target was...is the Dragon King." Verothrax pointed out.
"There can only be one goal... the Fae intend to make a claim to the supreme rule. We knew it was coming, but we did not expect this..." Xenon muttered to himself.
"Then we can only turn their own plan against them... Xenon, I will no longer return to slumber and hide from my magic. I am a Battle Lord by birthright, the Fae dares make use of me, I must let them know the consequences;" Verothrax hissed darkly.
