Chapter 632: Submerged 2 (Ch.633)

Darkness enveloped Neveah the very moment her head went under and her vision was clouded within the blackened water,

Her view of the surface was unsteady, but Neveah kept her gaze fixed on it, her instincts kicked in immediately and she cut off her breath.

She attempted to swim back upwards, kicking her legs and arms but the weight pulling her down far overpowered hers, she could not overcome it.

Neveah could hear the sounds of an attack.

’Kobolds!’ Neveah thought, recalling the sinister beasts summoned by dark magic.

She had faced them alongside Menarx just once, but Neveah could never forget those growls.

The sounds came from the surface and so she knew her companions now faced their own troubles and were prevented from aiding her in time.

The potent aura of dark magic was thick in the water, so much that Neveah could practically feel it grazing over her, seeping into her skin, sapping out her strength and leaving her muscles heavy and weary.

Neveah found she could not move as agilely as she usually would, try as she did and though her mind was completely clear and conscious, her body grew increasingly slow, even to her own eyes.

The unidentified weight from beneath relentlessly pulled her down, intent on taking Neveah to the very depths and the stream was by no means shallow.

The deeper Neveah was pulled, the darker it became and the more difficult it was to keep her eyes on the surface.

It had only been a short moment but the surface already looked so far away, a tiny glimpse of light far above.

There had not been enough time to take one last breath and so Neveah knew she would not last too long.

The water around her churned as Neveah struggled against the relentless force pulling her deeper to the bottom of the stream, she tugged violently to free her leg,

However, Neveah’s attempts proved futile. The more she struggled, the tighter the grip around her ankle became.

The touch of the unidentified captor left a chill that Neveah could still feel even through the leather of her boots.

Realising her struggle only made her situation more dire, Neveah stopped.

She instead dared a look beneath but all she could see was unending darkness and a pair of yellow, sinister, glowing eyes.

It only took one look for Neveah to tell there was no humanity in the being pulling her under, its gaze was entirely dark and sinister, with nothing in those eyes but the intent to kill.

’It intends to drown us...’ Neveah’s wolf announced the obvious.

’ I am not certain why or how, but the fact that it can tell us apart from everyone else to separate us means we are being targeted.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

’Or it could have just been we were closest to the edge of the stream.’ Neveah thought back in a grim tone.

’Is anything ever that simple?’ Neveah’s wolf asked.

However, they were not in the situation for deliberation.

Neveah felt around her belt for her dagger, even though she was not certain how she could even put it to use when she could barely see,

But even that was nowhere to be found, Neveah’s hand made contact with an empty sheathe.

’It must have dropped when we were pulled first and fell.’ Neveah’s wolf thought.

Neveah resisted the urge to hiss, she could not dare make a move that would lead to her losing the final reserve of air she had.

Her muscles were growing even heavier and if she did not do something soon, Neveah knew she would be in danger.

Neveah still contemplated on her best course of action when the grip on her ankle loosened suddenly.

In the depths of the water, Neveah caught a glimpse of steel and Dante’s familiar robes, but that was all she could see before a scaly tail slashed down at her.

Neveah spun out of the way as swiftly as she could with the water hindering her movements but her muscles did not respond in time.

Neveah bit into her lip to suppress a scream of pain, the sharp, scaly tail of the beast made contact with her shoulder, slashing open her skin before it was swiftly retracted.

But Neveah did not even have the time to dwell on it as the tail came right back at her again.

Dante battled the beast somewhere in the same waters yet it still attacked Neveah unforgivingly, facing off on two sides with ease.

The darkness was a grave disadvantage, Neveah could barely see the tail coming till it was already a moment away from reaching her.

This time, Neveah lifted her hands to block it, relying on her arm guards to serve as a shield.

The tail slashed into her arm guards, the steel broke apart from the force, leaving Neveah’s wrists bare and her with no further protection from the next attack.

That soon became a distant worry as Neveah felt the clarity of her mind drop, her vision grew blurry and her head spun. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

’We are losing too much blood, too quickly and the water is too contaminated, it will not let us heal, keep your eyes focused Neveah! Do not lose consciousness!’ Neveah’s wolf hissed urgently.

Neveah shook her head quickly, just in time to catch a glimpse of the tail coming at her again,

Neveah flipped back through the water, once again relying on her agility which again proved to have forsaken her.

The sharp tail caught Neveah’s thigh, slashing across it, leaving a gash Neveah knew was just as deep as that on her shoulder.

Neveah was not sure how affected Dante was by the dark magic in the water that drained their strength, seemingly feeding it to the creature.

Dante would be unable to take dragon form within these depths and though his strength in human form was not any less lethal, the creature was clearly much larger and had greater advantage with the stream overwhelmed with dark magic.

Neveah was losing blood even faster now and severely injured, she still had no ways of protecting against a relentless attack she could barely see, and with her own strength betraying her, Neveah knew this was quickly becoming a precarious situation.

Not just her surroundings alone but within her, she could feel Demevirld stirring excitedly.

’I...take control.’ Neveah thought to her wolf, giving the reins to the only force she knew stood a chance at resisting Demevirld’s influence.
