Chapter 594: Best For Her (Ch.595)

Dante walked down the halls of the Scabbard Tower, his arms crossed behind his back.

He was deep in his own thoughts, still mulling over his father’s words as he made his way to Estelle’s quarters. It was common knowledge that Dante and Estelle did not yet share a common room, as would be expected of a dragon and his rider.

There had been many questioning eyes in Scabbard Tower, but none would dare directly confront the heir of Fort Scabbard on his personal affairs. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

This arrangement had also been made by Dante upon their return to Scabbard, but with each day, the distance between Dante’s quarters and Estelle’s grew much more tasking to Dante, but it still was difficult for him to admit that he had made a wrong call.

Dante soon arrived at Estelle’s quarters, he knocked on the door gently and waited to hear an invite before he stepped in.

Elle was seated at her table in the receiving area of her quarters and she glanced up at Dante the moment he stepped in,

Her eyes lit up as they always did when she set eyes on him, a bright smile settled on her lips but the smile froze halfway and her innocent excitement turned apprehensive as she recalled their last argument.

"Are you still mad at me?" Dante and Estelle both asked at the same time in almost perfect tandem.

For a moment, they were both silent and then Dante chuckled quietly and Estelle smiled too, the genuine smile she had been withholding.

"Truce?" Estelle offered as Dante leaned against the door, watching her, a small smile lingered on his lips.

Dante shook his head slightly at Estelle’s words.

"No truce. You did not say any wrong words, and I should not have left the way I did. There are many things I am lacking in... I will learn to be better." Dante said in a tone of remorse.

"I know you will need time... I was too shaken and let impatience get the better of me." Estelle admitted to her own part.

"You have a heart that feels the pain of the people. And you wear that heart on your sleeve, hence people feel safe and reassured with you. I have much to learn." Dante said with a shake of his head.

Dante walked over to Estelle, taking a sit across from her at the table.

"What are you working on?" Dante asked curiously.

Estelle glanced down at the parchment spread out before her, breathing a quiet sigh.

"I was going to write a note to Veah. To update her on the recent week here in Scabbard... and what just happened. But I do not know what words to say, and what words not to say..." Estelle murmured with a tired sigh.

"Because Veah faces a great many troubles already?" Dante asked knowingly.

Estelle sighed again, placing her pen down on the table.

"The Dunes is in a state of constant unrest with the breaking right at its borders. No one knows the day it expands into Dune territory... and then, there is Xenon...Jian and even Kaideon, all gone..." Estelle said in a pained tone.

"In her last letter, Veah implored us not to disclose her bonds to the Dragon King and Xenon. I do not understand why she keeps it a secret when rumors of it are already on every lip. How can anyone understand her pain?" Estelle asked with a sigh.

"As long as it remains unconfirmed by the Dragon King, then it can only be just rumors. If it is known that Veah is the Dragon King’s bonded, the tributary races will shift their assaults from Dragon Keep to the Dunes..."

"The rider council will demand for her return to Dragon Keep and the Dunes will be assigned another Lord in her stead."

"In His Grace’s absence, his rider will become a target of both friend and foe alike, Veah would then have no choice but to return to Dragon Keep and address the council. Veah must not wish to bring the Dunes anymore troubles than what they already face." Dante guessed.

"Then what am I to write to her? Would it be right to burden her with our own troubles?" Estelle asked Dante uncertainly.

"Before Veah is our friend and comrade, she is to bye Dragon Queen. The world may believe it to be rumors but we know it is true. Scabbard is duty bound to report to the royal authority." Dante reminded.

"But this was not a royal order... and as her confidants, we would rather do what is best for her. The question is, what do you believe best for Neveah? To remain oblivious? Or would she want to know the truth, burden and all?" Dante posed the question to Estelle.

Estelle did not need to give it so much thought, she was very clear on Neveah’s personality.

Estelle picked up her pen and began writing out a note on the parchment.

There was a look of resignation in her eyes as she did so and in a short time, she was done.

Estelle glanced over the parchment before she folded it up and sealed it closed.

"Veah would not want to be kept in the dark." Estelle said decisively.

Estelle handed the parchment to Dante and then began writing up another draft.

"Who is that for?" Dante asked Estelle.

"To Lord Everon. Inquiring into the status of his research. I will also be sending another blood sample. He will need to find the lightblood with a close enough genetic makeup to Veah... It is the only way to cross reference and find a solution to Demevirld." Estelle relayed to Dante.

"How much longer till Everon has answers? I hear the bond grows more tasking on Veah by the day." Dante murmured with a sigh.

"We can only offer as much aid as Everon needs. Remember to deliver both messages separately, Veah is unaware that Everon is testing light bloods to find her a cure... if she knew of it, she would never approve." Estelle reminded Dante.
