Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 587: Only Thing Right ()
"You will go shower and have a meal yourself, Isa. And I am not asking. I will take him." Neveah said firmly, walking around the bed.
"I..." Isalder began to protest but Neveah interrupted her.
"You are not fine, Isalder!..." Neveah hissed, wincing as the infant cried even louder, startled by Neveah’s tone.
Neveah breathed in deeply again, willing herself to calm.
’This is not you, Veah... this is not you.’ Neveah mentally repeated her constant mantra to herself.
"You can barely hold yourself together and you have a son you barely know how to cater to...you are in pain, you are still in recovery from childbirth, you are grieving, disheartened... name it...so no, Isa, you are not fine."
"There is nothing about this that is fine and no one expects you to be fine. I certainly do not...you can keep pushing Tara away, but trust that you will have no success with me." Neveah clarified.
"Give me the child... please. I will not harm a hair on his head, not even if my life is required of me." Neveah said in a much calmer, almost pleading tone.
Neveah knew she needed to provide that much reassurance to Isalder who only had her child to hold onto now, with Orin’s whereabouts still uncertain.
Isalder slowly handed her infant over to Neveah and Neveah gently took the wailing child, cradling the child in her arms before getting off the bed. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Hush now, little one. Let your mother have a moment of peace." Neveah adoringly whispered to the infant, rocking the child slowly.
The infant carried on bawling inconsolably, Neveah had not expected it would be that easy.
"I will be with him for the next few hours, I will have him seen to by Everon and return him to you fed and well rested. Freshen up, eat and get some rest..." Neveah trailed off, glancing around Lord Orin’s quarters.
The blinds were still firmly shut and no light penetrated. The food tray that Isalder had most likely tossed in her frustration had spread food contents almost everywhere and there were clothes left lying around the room.
Both belonging to the infant and Isalder herself.
Neveah sighed quietly, amongst all who had been devastated by the breaking, Isalder was the one who had been hit the hardest and was yet to find her bearings to any extent.
One could not blame her, Lord Orin’s rider had endured a difficult birth that had nearly claimed her life barely a few months before, and the healing process had been painfully slow ever since, much to everyone’s dismay.
Isalder was still grappling with catering to an infant, even with Orin’s doting support. Isalder was Orin’s one treasure, he cared for her like a precious gem, never letting even a single discomfort her way and Isalder relied on her dragon heavily...they both relied on each other heavily.
And all of a sudden, one day, the world had overturned and Isalder’s entire existence had crumbled along with it, in that very moment that Orin had been separated from her indefinitely and all contacts lost.
Now, Isalder was barely pulling through each day. Neveah knew she would have been in a far worse state, had it not been for her maternal need to cater to her child.
Even then, there were days like this when Isalder completely lost all composure and days like these were coming around more often the longer the breaking tarried.
"Tara, take Isa to my quarters. This place...is too depressing. I will have someone tidy up and have everything in order while she rests." Neveah murmured.
Tara nodded and immediately went over to support her sister.
Neveah’s gaze lingered on a quietly sobbing Isalder for a moment longer before she headed out, still cradling the infant.
Neveah made her way to Everon’s study, the royal physician had quickly made a base of the Dune Castle after the breaking had hit.
There was no cause returning to Dragon Keep when all the troubles were right here in Dune City.
Beyond that, Dragon Keep still had Lords Kirgan and Imagor who had been left with no choice but to assume royal duties in King Jian’s absence.
With the rider council growing agitated and calling for war against the Fae, the Lords of ten of the great fortresses were left in confusion on whether to prepare for war or otherwise,
Meanwhile the Fae was a growing threat by the day, Dragon Keep was faced with the kind of tension Neveah did not wish to contemplate,
The Fae had grown immensely bold after the breaking. In King Jian’s absence, they had acquired the audacity they did not initially have and had begun refuting dragon control over some of their trade routes, leading to some altercations that had left the Fae with casualties.
This had provided the Fae with the justification they needed to declare war, at a time when they knew was most inconvenient for the Dragons to battle.
Menarx and his rider had been away at the Fae borders, keeping an eye on the situation in preparation for first agitations that everyone knew would happen any day now.
Whereas, in Fort Scabbard, there was word of a plague that was swiftly spreading, afflicting only humans and no other species.
It was still unknown what exactly it was, it was truly worrisome and Estelle and Dante had kept Neveah and the Dune Dragons constantly updated on the situation of things.
The stronghold was in a situation that could only be handled by the King’s guard, or what was left of them. Neveah had enough on her plate with the Dunes.
Furthermore, Everon had remained in the Dunes for Neveah’s benefit. He and the three elders Jian had invited a month ago had their hands full researching on ways to extract Demevirld,
A task Neveah had made all the more difficult by letting Demevirld loose and further tightening their bond.
"Everything is just wrong... everything..." Neveah murmured to herself.
Neveah passed a look down to the infant, he was a bit more calm now, and the cries had stopped, but he suckled on his thumb and looked to Neveah with wide teary eyes.
"Everything but you, little one. You are just right..." Neveah adjusted, a small smile on her lips.
"Perhaps you are the only one left that is still right..." Neveah added with a heavy sigh.
