Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 560: Compromised ()
Neveah stared at the small door nestled into the wall and completely covered up by creeping vines from the flower meadow,
It was also a part of the wall itself, like the wall had been cut into to create the entrance and so it looked completely ordinary, so much so that one would never know it was an entrance unless one knew the right way to open it.
The creeping vines all along the length of the wall also served as a perfect camouflage, especially from those who would sight it from up above.
’Whoever created this entrance is very familiar with the dragons and know how to avoid the eyes in the skies.’ Neveah noted in her mind.
"This is a secret entrance leading to the west wing of the light hall, Lord River built it himself. It is not so far from the dungeons, we have reliable information that Lord River is held there at this moment." One of the bounty hunters supplied to Neveah.
Just as Tara had said, two other bounty hunters had accompanied Neveah. Of the two, one was a large man with a thick muscular build, while the other was a thin, tall but deadly looking man.
Both were of the Fae, Neveah noted and she could not be certain if they were truly bounty hunters as they claimed, or just disguised as that to conceal their true identity.
"This is as far as we will go with you, the rest is up to you." The thin man relayed to Neveah.
"When the deed is done, we will open up an escape route for you. You need only follow the path indicated on the map." The other supported.
Neveah nodded slowly and stepped through the door, unsurprised as it was pushed shut behind her.
Now, Neveah found herself in the small flower meadow of the light hall.
The light hall was home to hundreds of the Fae and so most of the light halls were more like a forest than a place of civilization, at least Neveah had seen two of such.
The mighty structure that was the Light Hall stood in the middle of this natural habitat, but the forest was kept alive by the magic and life force of all the Fae dwelling within the hall.
Neveah was well hidden in the forest and she knew enough about the patrol organisation within the light hall to know her way around.
But Neveah did not leave the forest, instead, she moved on for a short distance and then darted to the side, hiding herself away amongst the trees.
Neveah waited for a short moment, and just when she was begining to conclude her suspicions had been wrong, the hidden door came open again and in stepped two male fairies.
They looked completely different from the supposed bounty hunters Neveah had just seen, they were young and soft looking like most of the Fae, but their eyes... that was familiar to Neveah.
Neveah knew enough about cloaking magic to know those who wielded magic could easily change their appearance at their wish, but the eyes were more difficult to hide.
"I knew it. They are also Fae from the light hall. Not just Lord River... many within this Light Hall are compromised." Neveah murmured to herself.
Neveah righted her stance and turned around, her eyes going wide in surprise when she came face to face with a displeased looking Xenon.
Neveah staggered backwards in her surprise and nearly lost her footing but Xenon reached out and grabbed Neveah’s arm, pulling her back so she stood merely an inch away from him.
"I...how are you here?" Neveah asked Xenon in a low tone, glancing up at him through the large hat that covered her eyes.
"You look ridiculous." Xenon said first, his tone completely serious and objective.
Neveah chuckled awkwardly, lifting a hand to adjust the hat on her head.
"You have a tendency to make others worry, Veah." Xenon pointed out, his grip on Neveah’s hand tightening slightly,
Not to the extent that it was painful, but enough to provide him the reassurance he needed.
"I... I’m sorry, I planned to return before it came to your notice." Neveah apologized guiltily.
Xenon stared down at Neveah for a moment before he gestured behind her.
"They are traitors?" Xenon asked Neveah, referring to the two Fae that had just passed by.
"They and many others... this light hall, it is in the hands of the Fae already." Neveah admitted to Xenon.
Xenon’s brows twitched slightly at Neveah’s words, it was hard for Neveah to admit to it too, this was after all the White Dunes...it only meant they had not been careful enough.
"Menarx will arrive at dawn. You have until then, beyond that...you must stay out of this." Xenon clarified, letting go of Neveah’s hand.
Neveah stared at Xenon in surprised, she had feared she would be yelled at or dragged home kicking and screaming, Xenon could be overbearing like that.
Infact, he was more overbearing than he was anything else.
"I will not be far." Xenon added, clarifying he was not leaving Neveah to her devices.
Neveah nodded slowly and headed off, she paused when she had gotten some distance ahead and glanced back, but Xenon was nowhere to be seen.
Had she not felt his touch, Neveah would have wondered if she had just imagined him.
Neveah continued on her way, stealthily navigating the light hall till she arrived at the dungeons.
Neveah expected to find a tightly guarded building, but there was barely a few guards which was unlike anything she had ever heard of the light hall.
Neveah could tell this had also been arranged and Neveah shook her head slightly.
"How deeply does the influence of the Fae reach here?" Neveah wondered.
Wasting no time, Neveah slipped past the few guards and snuck her way into the dungeons, heading straight for Lord River’s cell.
The dungeons were completely dark with no lighting whatsoever and so as Neveah approached the cell, she caught sight of Lord River,
Though she could see him, he could not see her. But Neveah made certain he could hear her as her boots made contact with the ground, one loud footstep after another.
