Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 553: Blackbird ()
King Jian landed, shifting back to his human form. He walked over to Xenon, Lord Orin and Lord Garron who awaited him a short distance from the barrier.
"These three points are the weakest spots in the barrier and require heavier guard, but since Veah...it is remarkable." Lord Orin admitted in awe.
King Jian stared up at the barrier, his gaze narrowed slightly. He could still see the dim golden glow of light pulsing occasionally along the length of the barrier.
This point they stood was far off from where Neveah had unleashed Demevirld’s power, yet it was not unaffected.
The barrier pulsed vibrantly, the dune enforcers had admitted it was the strongest they had seen the barrier at in at least a decade.
On one hand, it was truly remarkable. On the other hand, it was even more worrisome.
"She mustered such power in the first instance... suppressing Demevirld will be more difficult than we thought." Xenon thought to King Jian through their bond.
King Jian’s brows twitched slightly but he said nothing in response, he just stood and stared at the barrier.
"At least a hundred dragons advancing beyond the barrier, it will be the first time in... the first time since the barrier was erected. How great will the effect be on the barrier? Can we contain it?" Xenon asked Lord Orin.
Though the barrier warded of dark forces, the more people who passed through it, it interfered with the channeling strength and weakened the barrier.
But there had never been an army of dragons advancing beyond the barrier, not just dragons but mages would be summoned too, to undo whatever spell had been cast on Fort Blazed.
"A few decades ago, we would be able to. But this time... the Light Hall is not what it used to be. I am not certain if they can hold." Lord Orin confessed.
"We can only trust that the current strength of the barrier will persevere, if it remains at this strength, there will be no trouble." Lord Garron added.
"If the barrier crashes..." Xenon trailed off.
"Shadow beings will advance on Dune City. All other light halls will be weakened too, putting the remaining three parts of the barrier at risk...if Fort Blazed has been hidden in the dark lands, it was truly a well thought out move..."
"An advance will be difficult, neither can we retreat. We have limited options." Lord Garron said thoughtfully.
"I would say it would be best Kaideon returns with a negative report. But that would only mean Fort Blazed is still at large..." Lord Garron continued with a shake of his head.
"Garron, My Liege has sensed Fort Blazed himself. He would not be wrong." Xenon said with certainty.
King Jian felt a tug on his mind block, he could sense where it sourced from and so he lowered his block.
’Tell me, Cassian.’ King Jian thought to Cassian.
’I have passed on your words to Everon. He will come up with a method to extract Demevirld, but he requires some time.’ Cassian’s voice sounded in King Jian’s mind.
’There is more.’ Cassian continued.
’Menarx has a disturbing report. The spies planted by the Lady of Ruby Scales in the Fae royal forest report that BlackBird was dispatched to the Dunes by one of the Fae clan lords.’ Cassian reported.
’Blackbird?’ King Jian asked, his brows narrowed slightly.
’He is a bounty hunter, Kirgan and I have encountered him once. He is no ordinary bounty hunter, he was under suspicion at the time of being linked to three assassinations but the Fae stepped in and covered it up.’
’As all three victims were Fae, the decision was theirs to make and we did not interfere...’ Cassian relayed.
’A bounty hunter and a Fae killing assassin...here in the dunes. How long ago was this?’ King Jian asked.
’The same day we departed for the Myriad Forest.’ Cassian reported.
’If that is so, then he must already be in Dune City.’ King Jian thought. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
’We do not know what he is after, but it occurred too close to the timeline of the breach to be a coincidence.’ Cassian said.
’Send me a portrait of his appearance.’ King Jian ordered.
It took a short moment before a small letter portal opened up, delivering a small, rolled up parchment.
King Jian took the parchment and rolled it open, he examined the composite, it was an image of a man swaddled in large robes, with a scarf and a hat obscuring his features.
King Jian passed the parchment over to Xenon who examined it, his brows furrowed into a frown.
"Orin, find this person. Turn the city over if you have to." Xenon ordered, passing the parchment on to Lord Orin.
Lord Orin looked over it for a moment, quirking a brow.
"We have this man in custody. He was captured trying to sneak into the city." Lord Orin reported.
King Jian and Xenon exchanged a look at that.
"Have you extracted a confession?" Xenon asked.
"He is adamant, provided a name that was clearly false however we could tell from the accessories he carried that he is of nymph origin and a bounty hunter."
"Bounty Hunters do travel through these parts to get to The Rudder so it is not a strange occurrence, but he carried the token of the Fae council with him, hence we apprehended him."
"With breach happening right after, we are yet to put him under trial." Lord Orin revealed.
"We have reason to believe he was not just passing through. Dune City was his intended location." Xenon revealed.
"But bounty hunters are not allowed operation in Dune City, only in The Rudder. Why would he come here?" Lord Orin asked with a raised brow.
"Oh Scales!" Lord Garron exclaimed.
"Garron, what have you done?" Lord Orin asked as all eyes turned to settle on him.
"Earlier, the commander of city guard needed a cover identity to infiltrate a location under suspicion of being related to the black market... I permitted him to make use of the bounty hunter... and the investigation..."
"Neveah is in charge of it." Lord Garron revealed.
