Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 541: Concern ()
Neveah stood on the wall of the light hall, gazing out to the barrier that was only barely visible, far up ahead.
The barrier still gave off that warm golden glow if one looked long enough, or perhaps it was only in Neveah’s eyes that it’s form and appearance was permanently changed.
Neveah felt a strange way just looking at the barrier like this, there was something it triggered, a dense of connection of sorts...feeble, but it was there.
Neveah did not dare contemplate it, she had decided to shut Demevirld out completely and she had promised the same to King Jian.
That meant she could not afford to entertain any thoughts or curiosity towards it as that would stir Demevirld up again.
Demevirld on his own part was silently brooding, churning and making it’s displeasure known. Neveah could sense it every so often, making attempts to influence her mood and thoughts, but it was not yet strong enough to get past Neveah’s mind block.
Neveah’s wolf grumbled in Neveah’s mind, concurring to Neveah’s thoughts.
Neveah was grateful she was already so accustomed to having a different entity in her mind, it was the only reason she could even hope to contain Demevirld, because her wolf was on her side and Demevirld was overpowered... for now.
But Demevirld was even the last thing on Neveah’s mind at this time, there was an even more pressing concern.
An unsettled feeling had knotted itself in the pit of Neveah’s stomach since she had parted ways with her father in the Dune Castle.
As Kaideon’s mission was tied to secrecy, he had told Neveah he would not be saying his farewells beyond the castle and so he had said them there.
Neveah understood Kaideon would leave for his mission without further word and so she had come here, just to ease the worry in her heart and watch out ahead of his departure, just in case anything was off.
But try as Neveah might, she just could not shake off that feeling of unease, even when everything looked perfectly calm and normal for the past hour she had been watching the barrier.
Since the death gale had been consumed and the sunlight restored to the dark lands, the light hall reported that the Asvarian Beacon had been at it’s strongest and so was the barrier, there had been no suspicious movements in the dark lands too.
Not even the regular sightings of shadow masses prowling the outskirts at sun down.
It had gotten much too calm, much too quickly, like there had not just been two consecutive breach and a full on attack on the barrier.
It was hard to believe that this was just it, the barrier would return to another hundred years of peace just like that? Neveah could not buy into it, she just couldn’t.
Whatever had stirred a breach twice was no accident, the shadow beings beyond the barrier would never relent so easily, they did not understand the meaning of defeat.
At this time, Neveah knew her father and two of his enforcers would be crossing the barrier, or perhaps they had already crossed it and were now on the other side, in the dark lands ridden with dangers and uncertainties.
Their plans and path through the dark lands were known only to them three, what was worse, they could not take dragon form or take a mount and so they would have to complete the journey on foot, with the aid of jump portal artifacts.
As moving undetected by the shadow beings that prowled the lands was imperative, the jump portals they could use were the ones with the most negligible magic trace, which meant their effect range was all the more limited.
Neveah had seen for herself just what manner of horrors lay beyond the barrier, and she had not even ventured fully into the dark lands.
What they had encountered was merely the shadow beasts on the outskirts, those constantly seeking for a means to infiltrate the barrier.
And the death gale had only been a unified attack from an innumerable amount of them.
All these were just the barest glimpse into the horrid place that was the dark lands, 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Neveah could not help but think, her father and the dune enforcers were going in barely equipped, the dark lands may not be as familiar to them as it used to be.
If dark magic could relocate an entire fortress and all it’s citizens, how could one rely on any knowledge they had of the dark lands and it’s lay out?
Was anything still where it used to be? Would the directions Neveah and Jian had given prove useful to guide their path?
And there were just three of them against an entire world of uncertainty.
"Kaideon is not just any dragon lord, he will be fine." Xenon’s familiar voice interrupted Neveah’s thoughts.
Neveah’s heart skipped a beat at Xenon’s sudden arrival and she glanced over her shoulder to him, wondering how she had not sensed him approaching till he was already behind her.
"Your mind is occupied, it is only expected you are not as sensitive." Xenon answered to Neveah.
Neveah raised a brow at the accuracy of Xenon’s response, a thought dawning on her mind.
"Can you...hear my..." Neveah began to ask suspiciously.
Xenon tilted his head to the side, watching Neveah’s expression in amusement before he shook his head slightly, walking over to stand beside Neveah.
Xenon had come alone, Neveah assumed King Jian had many matters to see to, being dragon king.
"I’m not in your head Veah...not yet, at least." Xenon assured.
Neveah narrowed her gaze slightly at Xenon’s words, noting to herself that she would have to take the necessary precautions, just in case their bond developed faster than she expected.
"My father is not just any dragon lord... neither are you, yet you almost died out there, Xenon." Neveah reminded, glancing over at Xenon.
Neveah still could not understand, why exactly Xenon had fallen from the sky in such a manner, there was no shadow beast singlehandedly capable of achieving that.
Neveah just could not get that sight out of her head, of Xenon crashing down... the mere thought of it brought back that chill of terror that had overtaken her heart.
"Xenon... what happened out there?" Neveah asked, when she noticed the change in Xenon’s expression.
