Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 504: When It All Began ()
The world slowed to a still all around Neveah, the shrieks and howls from the death gale fading off into the background like they no longer existed in her world.
Neveah did not even register the fact that she was falling...it was hard to register anything else when her mind still reeled from the word her wolf had just whispered through their link.
"Mate..." Neveah’s wolf had said in a low, astonished tone.
It was not the firm declaration most people experienced, or the hesitant revelation her wolf had showed when identifying Alessio as her mate,
This was different, it was a declaration, a quiet, thoughtful declaration that left a much deeper impact on both wolf and man than any other conversation they both had shared. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Neveah could swear, if she was not already falling to her death, she would have coughed up blood at that word.
As unbelievable as it was, as impossible as it was... the electrifying jolts surging through Neveah told an entirely different story, one Neveah could not fathom or comprehend, she did not even dare to.
Neveah could only stare up into those large dragon orbs, eyes that reflected as much shock as Neveah felt,
The wind howled all around Neveah, a not so warm reminder that she was still plummeting to her death.
’He is...our mate...’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her again, like Neveah needed another announcement for it to be well registered.
Neveah’s wolf could say it a thousand times and Neveah still would not understand.
Did the word ’mate’ now have a new meaning? Was a soul mate no longer what Neveah knew it to be? So what was this? What mind games were being played on her at the moment?
On the other hand, a lot of things began to make sense...a lot of complicated feelings finally sorted themselves out.
The revelation was unexpected, but why did Neveah feel as though she had always known?
Somewhere deep down, something about the Dragon King had always been different... right from the very first moment she had laid eyes on him.
But of what use was contemplating any of it when in a moment, she would be smashed to bits at her landing?
Neveah let her eyes go closed, preparing her mind for whatever her fate was to be.
"Veah...Veah... Do not lose consciousness! Look at me! Wait for me..." King Jian’s voice echoed in Neveah’s mind.
Neveah’s eyes snapped open again, and flying straight for her was the Golden Scaled Dragon, his eyes narrowed.
’I can hear him... I can hear him even now ... I can hear him without skin contact...’ Neveah thought.
It was only now it dawned on Neveah that this had happened before,
’You...wait for me.’
Once, a long, long time ago...those exact words had echoed in her mind and she had never realized who had said them to her, up until now.
’The first time we met...you spoke to me...you asked me to wait... to wait for you...’ Neveah thought back to him.
The change in King Jian’s eyes was enough to confirm to Neveah that he had never realized until now that Neveah had heard his thoughts on that night...
The same way Neveah had never understood what had happened or who had spoken to her.
But what was clear to both was the fact that on the very first day they had met, their bond had already revealed itself.
But neither had recognized it...

What did it feel like to find one’s true bonded? There were many different tales amongst dragon kind...
So many, that it was easy to conclude that that one moment were two bonded souls recognized one another for the very first time, that moment was different for every dragon.
Once, a long time ago, before he was overwhelmed by more loss than one man was meant to bear,
Before the sole purpose of his existence became his responsibility to his people,
Once when his heart knew some freedom and his burdens were lighter, Jian had also wondered how it would feel...
What thoughts would run through his mind?
In what rhythm would his heart beat?
How and where would they meet?
Never in Jian’s wildest imagination had he expected that he would meet his true bonded out in the dark lands, right when he had been careless enough to let her drop.
Never had he expected that rather than a rhythm, his heart would come to a complete standstill, just as the rest of his world did.
His heart going still as that familiar terror gripped him, a terror he had been haunted by on every night for the past year.
That chilling cold terror that gripped him in that moment when he stared into her lifeless eyes, unable to do anything but watch...watch as her life was taken away from her.
Finally, the blurred face of the woman from his dreams had become clear in Jian’s mind.
The subject of all his nightmares, the deep sense of loss that plagued him and that heart wrenching pain, they all replayed through Jian’s mind at once and he understood it all.
’Neveah...it had been Neveah all along.’
The one he had failed to protect... the one he had lost... she had been right before his eyes all this time.
And then, panic unlike any King Jian had felt before gripped him.
’To lose her once was enough...to fail her once was enough. Not this time...never again.’ King Jian made a solemn vow, to himself and the Creator above.
"Veah...Veah... Do not lose consciousness! Look at me! Wait for me..." Jian thought to Neveah.
’The first time we met...you spoke to me...you asked me to wait... to wait for you...’ Neveah’s voice replied, a warm, soothing voice in his mind despite the danger besieging them on all sides.
Jian’s eyes widened slightly, he recalled it now... that on the night he had trailed Xenon to wolf territory, it was then it had all began.
No, it had begun long before this...
