Chapter 338: Black and Pink Vs Red and Green - 1

"Let me show you the correct way." Saying that, Lily extended her hand, and the space between the two women erupted.

Roots and vines of brown and green burst from the ground, tearing through the earth as they disrupted Naelith and Sylrael, forcing them to focus on dodging. The vines twisted mid-air as they reached to grab Naelith, but at that moment, Sylrael invoked her own magic. Her vines shot up in response, seizing control of the area Lily had taken.

Lily was astonished to see that Sylrael’s attacks actually managed to hold her own. At that moment, everybody realized Sylrael possessed strength equal to Lily. Which meant she herself was sitting at the cusp of Mid 4-star. No wonder Lily wasn’t suppressed by the world.

"Sylrael! That girl’s strength is near yours! We can win this!" Naelith shouted, confidence returning to her, but the next moment she turned sharply—only to find Leo already behind her.

"How—!" She didn’t finish and was forced to dodge a kick aimed at her side, the air slicing past her.

"Who are you?!" Naelith demanded, steadying herself as she hopped onto a tree branch, her bow drawn and ready.

"Me?" Leo said calmly,

"I am the person who will capture you and your friends to build my territory. I liked the houses you people made." Saying that, Leo vanished once again into the shadows.

"Hmph! Do you think I am a fool to believe you will only ask us to make houses?" Naelith spat, charging her arrow with fire energy, heat flickering along its tip.

"I know how much of a lecherous being a human is!" Saying that, Naelith fired the arrow into the ground as the area erupted in fire. If she couldn’t trace Leo, she would destroy the area so there was no need to.

But Leo appeared from above.

"On the matter of not only making houses, you’d be correct." He said without a change in expression, as a downward punch came crashing toward Naelith.

"I knew it!" Naelith shouted and once again leapt away from the branch.

BAM! Crriiiipp!

Leo’s punch slammed into the tree branch, the wood splitting apart with a sharp, splintering crack.

"I expected not much from a human like you. You people are always after our bodies." Naelith said, firing another arrow at him midair, which he dodged by twisting. But to his surprise, just as the arrow was about to pass him—

BOOM!

The arrow exploded right in front of his face, the blast throwing him back. His face burned as the wound seared, heat biting into his skin. And it seemed Naelith still had control over the fire, as the flames suddenly intensified. If it had been a normal human—or even a 2-star individual—he would have been incinerated on the spot.

"Nice! Serves you right!" Naelith exclaimed triumphantly, thinking she had won. But then she frowned when there was no reaction from Leo.

As Leo was blown away, he twisted and landed on his feet. The fire still raged across his chest and face, flickering wildly. But he showed no reaction whatsoever.

"Not after your bodies, but after your strength to protect my territory." He said as water surged over his body, hissing against the flames and slowly putting them out.

The water element was the Soul Bond perk from Lily—now they were able to use each other’s elements.

Naelith’s eyes widened as she watched Leo’s wounds knit together before her eyes. A faint golden glow shimmered over his body, like a protective barrier that kept the fire from harming him further.

Just like that, within a few seconds, Leo was completely back to normal.

Naelith gritted her teeth and, instead of using her bow, extended her hands. At once, flames surged forward, roaring as they shot toward Leo.

Leo did the same, extending his hands as water burst forth to meet her flames.

But almost as if Leo lacked experience, the flames overpowered the water after a few seconds. Steam filled the surroundings, hissing loudly, and in the next moment, the fire crashed directly onto Leo.

"YES!" Naelith cheered. There was no way anyone would remain unscathed after that.

But the next moment, what happened left her completely dumbstruck.

"Arghhh..." Leo muttered, almost bored.

"I guess I shouldn’t experiment with newfound powers mid-fight." Saying that, he walked out of the steam cloud, flames still clinging to his body and the air around him. But he was completely unscathed. The golden barrier--aura, combined with water, kept his body cool and protected. The fire hadn’t damaged him in the slightest.

Though the slight burns that still occurred were promptly healed by Niri’s shared trait, mending silently.

"Alright, you are at the cusp of Low 4-star, and your green-haired friend is at the cusp of Mid 4-star."

"It’s doable." Saying that, Leo vanished.

But Leo was still confused. According to Andrew’s intelligence, just 6 months prior, Sylrael was supposed to be Pseudo 4-star, but now she was already reaching Mid 4-star. The same went for Naelith—she was supposed to be High 3-star or somewhere around that, but now she was already nearing Low 4-star.

Then there were the other girls too, many in the Mid to High 3-star range. 6 months was nowhere near enough for that kind of progress.

"Does time flow differently between two places?" Leo wondered as he manoeuvred around Naelith, who was visibly panicking after her attacks kept failing to have any effect and Leo could appear around her anytime.

At first, Leo thought he was overthinking it; after all, the biggest anomaly was him and Lily. But then again—

Welp, it’s a fantasy world. Anything can happen.

He simply shrugged the thought away and prepared to attack.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Suddenly, earthen spikes began to jut out around Naelith, forcing her to leap high into the air. But then, vines erupted from the surrounding trees, latching onto her limbs and suspending her midair.

At that moment, Leo appeared directly in front of her, his dagger burning with [Violet Hellbrand], the faint heat distorting the air around it.

Naelith’s limbs caught fire as the vine binding her burned away instantly. She ducked mid-fall, narrowly avoiding Leo’s dagger strike aimed at her arm.

He had targeted it precisely—to numb her hands and prevent her from firing any more arrows from a distance.
