Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 461: Unchanged Spots ()
Neveah was quiet for a long moment as she searched through her memories for what she knew of the Fae clans, knowledge gathered from history books and over a year in Dragon Keep.
Neveah did not know much of the history of the Fae kind in relation to Dragon Dynasty, but if there was one thing she did know, it was the fact that the Fae clans were seemingly on good terms with dragon dynasty on the surface, but everyone knew if dragon dynasty had to be wary of any of the races, the Fae was at the top of that list.
And there were many reasons for this, beginning from the fact that the Fae race had never been subdued in battle by dragon dynasty, instead they had sworn their fealty to High King Agardan in the early days of the uprising.
The history books told that the only reason a race as great as the Fae race bowed to dragon dynasty could be traced back to the centuries long friendship between High King Agardan and the last crowned High Queen of the Fae.
And the debt of life owed by the High Queen to High King Agardan who had saved her life in his youth.
Hence when the uprising had reached its peak and the races could no longer maintain neutrality and were compelled to pick a side, the Fae race was the only race to have chosen to stand with dragon dynasty.
One might say, what was shared between dragon kind and the fae race was not subjugation but an alliance... and allies were nothing but foes biding their time.
Especially an ally like the Fae who had once been allied with those dark sorcerers for the benefits of having an understanding with the ruling dynasty but had not thought twice to jump ships.
Neveah was certain the dragons also knew this, that the Fae could not be completely trusted and were most likely hatching up some form of plot to regain the power they once had.
But a crime that was not yet committed was not a crime and though the dragon dynasty could guard against the Fae, how much did they truly know of what the Fae was capable of?
A leverage over the Fae to fully suppress them was indeed a good thing for the dragons and having access to the secret of the Fae kind would indeed place Neveah in a position where the Fae would not dare offend her,
But did Neveah even want to be in such a position?
Neveah finally sat up on her bed and glanced over at Adrienne.
"You must believe that power is a temptation no one can resist..." Neveah began in a blank tone.
"That would be true for you as the entirety of your goal has always been to claim the ultimate power, hence why you set eyes on King Jian." Neveah continued.
Neveah had long figured Adrienne out, it had only been baffling to her that Adrienne made an enemy out of Neveah who was the last person to be an obstacle in Adrienne’s claim on King Jian.
"And up until a time, I had also set my heart to grow powerful... though we did have very different means in mind but this is an undeniable fact, because I understood that power is the only way I could survive in a foreign land...but I do not care for that anymore." Neveah admitted honestly.
"Adrienne, you are not one to sell your life saving card out to your rival even if you are at your last breath."
"And so my guess is, this life saving card of yours is the very reason you are in this condition in the first place... you had lost your use yet carried their secret. Being pushed to the edge, of course they knew if they let you live, you would sell them out to the dragons to save yourself." Neveah asserted.
Adrienne’s brows twitched slightly but she remained silent.
"On the surface, the Fae council have come to defend your rights but infact, they must have been astonished to hear you still lived and had somehow escaped exile to be present at the ceremony and how you sabotaged their plan to get rid of me, hence they had to come in a hurry...in fear of you exposing this secret of theirs."
"With the discovery of your bond with Menarx, the Fae council must have realized you still had use... how can they afford to still let you die?" Neveah murmured.
"The original plan must have been to use your life as a leverage to give you the place at Menarx’s side, the Lady of Ruby Scales might not be Dragon Queen but she is not a power that can be overlooked...a good enough consolation I would say." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"At your end, you would keep the secret of your people because placing the Fae on the chopping block might threaten your position also since you still are Fae royalty... however it happens that everything... me included played according to your plan."
"Everything but Menarx’s heart... and now, this plan of yours has fallen through hence you no longer have reason to protect the Fae but you do not dare reveal it yourself." Neveah clicked her tongue.
" It seems to me that you have gotten yourself into a very complicated situation with your people and you cannot see a way out...you have not come here for a bargain Adrienne, you have come to leave your burden to me so you may die with no guilt while I live tortured by what choice to make."
"This is freeing yourself of all responsibility on one hand... and on the other hand, making me a sinner to Menarx and the Dragon dynasty regardless of my choice, hence a punishment... for having Menarx’s heart." Neveah surmised.
Her gaze dared Adrienne to deny her words and Adrienne’s expression had changed too, Neveah chuckled quietly.
"You have pulled quite the act and at some point I was almost convinced, but a leopard never does change its spots, does it, Lady Adrienne?" Neveah asked with a dark look.
