Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 444: Greater Mercy ()
"Veah..." Estelle whispered quietly from the door, peering into Neveah’s quarters.
She had already been knocking for a while now with no answer but she had already expected it, Menarx had given her a heads-up.
Neveah’s eyes fluttered open, she sat up slowly on her bed, a dazed look in her eyes as she glanced to the bed where Menarx was nowhere to be found and then to the door where Estelle stared at her with a large smile.
"What is it? Where’s Narx?" Neveah asked in a tired tone, lifting a hand to rub her aching temple.
There was a numb pain radiating through her skull and it was extremely uncomfortable.
"He got up early and stepped out, there is a lot to be prepared for the unified council tonight... how could the Lord of Ruby Scales have the time to sleep in?" Estelle teased, still standing by the door with her excessive smile intact.
"Are you indirectly accusing me of sleeping in?" Neveah murmured tiredly, though there was a small smile on her lips.
"I wouldn’t dare lecture the Lady of Ruby Scales. I still hope to be safe whenever I make a trip to the North." Estelle replied with an innocent tone.
Neveah shook her head at Estelle’s teasing.
"A flight through Northern skies, you meant. Dear rider of the young scabbard lord." Neveah replied, beckoning on a now blushing Estelle.
"Why do you keep standing over at the door like some guest? Come in, I cannot be bothered to get up now." Neveah murmured, laying back down on the bed.
"Lord Menarx must have tired you out... I see he is a very passionate man, I mean with how he held you close after finding you and carried you back here, locking everyone out till this morning..." Estelle said, giggling afterwards as she walked over to Neveah.
Neveah passed Estelle a blank look to Estelle.
"Very passionate indeed. He held me closely and tenderly and then sneakily fed me Everon’s absurd potion that knocked me out for the entire night and left me in such a state this morning." Neveah replied with a roll of her eyes.
"It was just a bowl of medicine? Nothing happened? How could nothing happen? You both were so in love after reconciling and were alone from early evening till this morning. The mood was right and you slept through it?!" Estelle accused a little too fervently.
"Mood was right? Look at the words coming out of your mouth, little girl. I never knew you were so mouthy before now... I am enlightened." Neveah chided halfheartedly.
"I am many years your elder, Veah." Estelle pointed out. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Neveah scoffed beneath her breath, pulling the covers up closer around herself.
Everon’s tonics were always so strong and as unpleasant as they were effective.
"If you had not gone out in your condition yesterday, Lord Menarx would not have to seek help from Everon. You know it is important you fully regain your strength before tonight, there is no luxury of time." Estelle reminded.
Neveah breathed a quiet sigh, Estelle was right. Tonight, the unified council would hold and she would speak as a representative of Dragon Dynasty, whatever she said or did would reflect on the entire dragon dynasty, she could not afford to show any weakness.
"I know... I know. Menarx is thoughtful, Everon’s tonic will help me be back to myself in the shortest possible time, the temporary discomfort is worth it." Neveah agreed.
"Now that we are on the topic of getting you back to yourself, Lord Menarx especially sent me up here to fetch you...I mean invite you to join him down in the courtyard." Estelle finally relayed her reason for being here.
Neveah raised a brow, passing a questioning look to Estelle.
"Did you not just say he left early to see to state affairs? What is this about the courtyard now?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.
"Do not idle about, go get ready while talking." Estelle pressed, nudging Neveah to get off the bed.
Neveah grumbled beneath her breath but complied, getting off the bed, she fetched a change of clothing, a casual white dress.
"You seldom choose to wear dresses unless you are compelled or the occasion calls for it. This time, you pick out a dress without any encouragement...why? Perhaps Lord Menarx’s sincerity swept you off your feet and you now feel like a lady?" Estelle still teased.
"You are not going to drop this, are you?" Neveah asked in a deadpan tone.
"I am afraid not, My Lady." Estelle replied.
"You do not understand how terrified I was when you stormed out the moment you regained consciousness. I could not tell if you were furious... I truly thought you had decided to cut ties with Lord Menarx." Estelle admitted honestly.
Neveah was quiet for a moment, she had been furious truly... deeply hurt by all that had happened, but she had never once considered leaving Menarx, it was a thought she just could not fathom.
"And if I had?" Neveah asked quietly as she continued sorting through her things.
Estelle understood the gravity of Neveah’s question and so she did not answer immediately but took a moment to think about it.
"It has not been so long since Dante and I arrived to Dragon Keep. Not so long since we met you out in the Fodder Grooves, but in this short time, the depth of love shared between you and Lord Menarx is obvious to us." Estelle began.
"However, the circumstances this time are truly difficult for both of you, no one can argue with this. And so whatever decision you make, no one would dare blame you."
"I also once chose to push Dante away for fear of fate and the power of the bond." Estelle said quietly, taking a sit by Neveah’s bed.
"Have you... have you ever regretted it?" Neveah asked.
"Everyday...but Veah, sometimes regret is the greater mercy." Estelle replied with a sigh.
"It won’t end up like that with Menarx and I." Neveah finally said after a moment of quiet, heading off into the washroom.
