Chapter 436: Death Note (Ch.437)

He was so close now, all she needed to do was take a few more steps.

Up till this moment, Adrienne’s presence had gone unnoticed. There were so many guests from all over the stronghold and different races were present including the delegates from the Fae clan, it was not difficult for a fairy to blend in.

But Adrienne knew she would be noticed soon, she had chosen Rosalie’s disguise for precisely this reason... Rosalie was part Fae, with Fae blood running through her veins, Adrienne’s scent would not be found suspicious in Rosalie’s clothing.

However, now that she was so close, there was no way the dragon king would be unable to tell who she was the moment he would see her, but it was okay.

Adrienne had come for this reason, to make certain she did not die forgotten, to make certain her last moments would thrust the stronghold into turmoil and would be remembered by all who were present here, especially the Dragon King.

Was that not why her own Fae clan had gone to such measures to get rid of her? To kill her off to protect a secret she had discovered without intending to? To keep their great crime which had been buried for so many centuries, buried for centuries more?

This great secret Adrienne held would ensure that the Fae and the Dragon kind would be irreconcilable, a war would be unavoidable and were these two races not the greatest to walk the lands of the stronghold?

A war between Fae and Dragon kind, the most populous race and the most powerful race, the stronghold would not survive such a bloody war in one piece,

The other races would have to pick sides, neutrality would be seen as enemity, no one would be left unaffected, and with dark sorcerers looming in the shadows, this peaceful dynasty would meet it’s end at Adrienne’s word.

The fate of the stronghold would be decided by Adrienne’s words today, what great honor it was to die in this manner...to die knowing everything and everyone would be ruined along with you.

The Fae clan would pay for their betrayal and for daring to harm her in blood, and Dragon kind would pay for their rejection and disregard in the same coin.

Only in this way would Adrienne be able to accept her death and the injustice behind it.

Adrienne hesitated for a moment, these last few steps would mean there was no going back, once the truth was out, the Fae clan was doomed for good.

In Adrienne’s hesitation, her eyes wandered again. Taking in the calm atmosphere of the hall as the guests interacted.

Of course, most of the attention was still focused on the Lord and Lady of Ruby Scales and Adrienne watched as gift after gift was presented to Neveah.

A melancholic feeling blossomed in her heart, she had gotten herself into this situation all to bring this attendant down , but in the end, it was she who had lost.

Adrienne shook off the thought, she only had so long left to live. To make her last moments the most memorable, she could not waste her thoughts on the attendant.

In the end, it was only for so long her happiness would last.

Adrienne was about returning her attention to her mission when she caught sight of a suspicious figure... other than herself.

It was not an unfamiliar face, Adrienne recognised the man to be a young smith from the black smith guild. What was more, she knew him to be a noble blooded Fae of one of the Fae tribes.

But it was not his identity that was suspicious, it was what he held in his hand.

A beautiful Ixora bloom, a rare magical flower that bloomed for centuries without withering, it was one of the rarest bloom in the Fae royal forest.

It could only show its first bloom in a habitat nourished by potent ancient Fae magic.

The Ixora bloom was well known for its warming ability and an unending list of health benefits, with it’s rarity, even the royal blooded Fae did not dare keep it to themselves, instead it was considered a tribute of the highest respect.

Even the crest of the royal Fae bloodline was in fact a newly bloomed Ixora flower, that was just how highly this flower was regarded.

It was a precious gift, too precious to be given out so easily and Adrienne should have realised that when a gift of an Ixora bloom arrived at her place of exile from the Fae clan.

Now, Adrienne knew what she had not known then. The Ixora bloom had another purpose entirely... it was the perfect poison carrier, completely untraceable and leaving no evidence behind after the colourless, odourless poison fume had been inhaled by the first recipient.

It was in this very same manner Adrienne had been poisoned in her place of exile, with no suspicion whatsoever, she had accepted the gift from an unknown source,

Believing the intent was to provide her some warmth in the chilly confines of the Ice Fortress where she was meant to spend an indefinite amount of time by royal decree.

But she had been terribly wrong, what she had received was not a gift at all but a death note, and at this very moment, the same death note was being offered to the newly bonded Lady of Ruby Scales.

’They wish to poison her!’ Adrienne realized in astonishment, unable to understand what the purpose behind this was.

Adrienne glanced around the hall, everyone was completely unaware, there was no one who remotely suspected a thing... other than Adrienne, no one knew.

Adrienne had not come to harm the attendant, she had believed her vendetta against the attendant would never be resolved until her death, but here before her eyes, Neveah would face the very same fate as Adrienne.

The very same end... If this was not fate, Adrienne did not know what was.
