Chapter 433: For so long (Ch.434)

Neveah’s breath accelerated into a rapid rhythm, she stared up at Xenon, her eyes fixed on his, that unending pool of pitch black mystery that was so familiar to her.

His eyes revealed a whirlwind of emotions and Neveah wished she could not understand them but she did... she did understand each and every one of them.

His eyes held her hostage, captivated, unable to look away and the intensity in his gaze appeared to not only be staring at her, but staring through her, right into her trembling heart.

"Do not turn me away Veah...do not fight your heart." Xenon entreated in a tone barely above a whisper.

As he spoke, his breath fanned over Neveah’s face and Neveah had to struggle to maintain a clear head while her mind tried to lead a journey on another trail entirely.

"Do you remember?..." Xenon drawled, his hand moving to rest on Neveah’s cheek.

His intense gaze still held her captive, unable to look away, like a spell had been woven into her mind.

"That night on Mount Edar, the warmth of your breath, your intoxicating scent, the feel of your lips on mine, the taste of them...of your skin on my tongue...those little, delightful sounds you make, I could not get it off my mind...I could not get you off my mind." Xenon continued in a low tone barely above a whisper.

His hand moved to encircle Neveah’s waist, drawing her closer to himself. He leaned down, his heated gaze darting down to Neveah’s lips.

Neveah knew what was coming, she knew exactly what Xenon wanted at this moment and she knew well enough that he would not hesitate to take what he wanted.

Everything about him was so enticing, like a drug that divested men of their senses, Xenon was an addiction Neveah had allowed...an addiction she now found impossible to resist.

How could it be possible that a single touch of his clouded Neveah’s mind and banished every sane thought? How could it be possible that the resolve she had spent all these months building was crumbling before her very eyes?

She could hear the echoes in her mind as each piece of her resolve fell into an abyss in the very depths.

Neveah’s heart was moved, she could not deny this. And had her heart known only Xenon, she would have been defeated without a fight.

But Neveah’s heart still knew another and the thought of him snapped her back to reality, if she fell to Xenon now, her resolve would never be able to recover.

"Are you trying to seduce me?" Neveah asked quietly.

"Can I not?" Xenon replied with a question of his own.

Could he not? The confidence in his tone was typical of Xenon. It was ironic to Neveah how she hated being controlled so much all her life, yet she had still fallen for such a domineering man.

Neveah sucked in a deep breath, gathering her wits together.

"Xenon...that night, what happened between us should not have happened. " Neveah said, her tone had reverted to a blank and cold state.

The words were bitter on Neveah’s tongue, but she forced them out regardless.

"Look at me...and say that again. Say it was a mistake..." Xenon dared. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Neveah had diverted her gaze before speaking, she knew well enough that her gaze would give her away and if it didn’t, she still could not bear to see the hurt reflected in his eyes.

"I’ll consider it a moment...and pretend it never happened. " Neveah murmured, ignoring Xenon’s demand.

"What would you have me do then...apologize for it?" Xenon asked.

"Forget..." Neveah said instead,

"And why would I do such a thing?" Xenon countered, raising a brow as though Neveah had just said the most impossible thing.

Xenon was adamant, Neveah could see it in his eyes. There was nothing she could say or do that would sway him from his chosen path...except, there was.

"Because I am not your Misha, Xenon. And I do not plan to be a replacement for your deceased lover. You can pine after the dead for the rest of your days if it pleases you...but I deserve better and I will have it!" Neveah made clear.

This time, she looked Xenon straight in the eyes, making it clear she meant every word she had said.

The hurt in his eyes was like piercing a dagger through her own heart but Neveah kept her face straight and her emotions in check.

Shoving Xenon aside, she headed away swiftly before Xenon could recover.

"Did you forget? I can hear your heartbeat Veah...I know when you lie to me! You can only run for so long, little wolf..." Xenon called after Neveah.

Neveah doubled her steps, but she knew well enough that this would not be the last encounter with the Black Fiend.

Celia stepped out of the grand hall, glancing down the halls with a sigh.

She had not thought she would get an opportunity to leave unnoticed until the ceremony was over but with the arrival of Lord Xenon, everything seemed to have taken an unexpected direction.

"Where could she have disappeared to at this time?" Celia wondered aloud, hurrying down the hall.

Rosalie was the person Celia was in search of, Rosalie had been chosen to present a gift to the newly bonded king’s guard on behalf of the healer’s academy, yet Celia had not caught a glimpse of said Rosalie since the ceremony began.

"This is so unlike her, her father and uncle are both here." Celia wondered knowing how harsh Rosalie’s family always were on the poor girl whenever she did anything remotely close to embarrassing their clan name.

There was nothing Rosalie’s father and clan would consider more disgraceful than Rosalie failing to perform her assigned duty by the academy.

Celia knew this and she was certain Rosalie knew it better, what exactly could have been so important that would keep her from the ceremony?

Celia was not certain, but Celia knew she had to find Rosalie and she had to find her quickly.
