Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 432: Take Responsibility ()
There was something about the air in the grand hall, or perhaps it was just Neveah but suddenly, the air had become too thin, it was now too difficult to breathe.
Neveah’s chest felt stuffy, like a heavy weight was laid on it, crushing down and in any moment, she would cave in.
There were all kinds of emotions barraging her, emotions that she could hardly recognize and Neveah could only gasp quietly for breath.
"Veah...are you okay?" Menarx whispered to Neveah.
Though his voice was low, his words did not escape the attention of Xenon and King Jian and their reconciliation was halted as both turned to her.
Theirs were not the only eyes on Neveah, everyone in the room now watched Neveah.
"I’m fine...His Grace will need to speak with Lord Xenon, I will take a walk." Neveah murmured beneath her breath.
"Veah..." Menarx began to say but Neveah held unto his hand.
"Narx, if you say not to leave, I shall not... But please..." Neveah pleaded in a whisper, she stared up at him in helpless guilt, knowing her every action at this moment was sure to hurt Menarx’s heart.
Menarx searched Neveah’s eyes, he could see in them the words she could not say and the plea he could not turn down even if it would be at his own expense.
"Go, I’ll wait for you." Menarx permitted, tightening his grip on Neveah’s hand reassuringly.
Neveah did not need to hear from anyone else, she kept her head held high and made for the side door, perfectly composed until she was on the other side.
Neveah clutched her chest as she hurriedly walked down the halls, she did not have a certain destination in mind, she could not even go that far since the ceremony was yet to begin.
If there still would be a ceremony given she had just let herself be shaken up before Menarx’s very eyes.
All Neveah knew was that she could not go that far, but she still had to get far enough, as far as was possible.
Neveah kept walking, taking a turn, she pushed open the doors leading out to a wide balcony, sucking in a deep, shuddering breath as she could finally feel the chilling cold night air on her face.
Cold enough to shake her back to reality...or so she hoped.
"Veah..." Xenon’s familiar voice sounded from behind Neveah just when Neveah thought she could finally breath.
Neveah froze up, turning around slowly to find him standing right there, at the doors to the balcony, staring straight at her with a complicated look in his eyes.
He had gone right after her, it was the only way he could arrive so fast and the thought of just what scene this had created added to Neveah’s frustration.
"You should not have come." Neveah whispered.
Xenon was quiet for a moment and Neveah thought he would not even respond, but he did.
"Do you mean now...or from exile?" Xenon asked, his tone quiet.
"Xenon..." Neveah whispered helplessly.
It was ironic how he could now speak so well, and the words they would get to exchange would be. hurtful words like this.
Neveah sucked in a deep breath to calm herself.
Xenon took a step forward but Neveah lifted a hand to stop him.
"Don’t... don’t come any closer." Neveah warned.
Xenon tilted his head to the side like he did when contemplating, but much to Neveah’s relief, he stayed put as she asked.
"What do you have in mind?" Neveah asked Xenon in a more objective tone.
"You." Xenon stated simply, like it was the most natural response.
Neveah guessed she should have expected that answer, she equally should have expected how her heart took on a strange beat in response to it.
"You clearly understand the gravity of what you are saying?" Neveah asked Xenon in disbelief.
"I do." Xenon agreed.
"Yet you must make things difficult for me?" Neveah asked again.
"I would hope I do not have to. But if I must, I shall. Forgive me... I will have to make it up to you." Xenon replied without hesitation.
In that one statement, Xenon made it clear to Neveah that he would not be easily prevented. And he did not end there.
"I have only ever wanted one thing from the moment I saw you in wolf territory, Neveah. You were already mine then... and you still are now." Xenon clarified.
"Do you even hear yourself?! What am I to you?! Some toy you can place down and pick up right where you left it at your will?!" Neveah hissed.
Xenon’s brows furrowed slightly, Neveah could see the hurt reflected in his eyes at her words and he did not even try to hide it.
He took a step closer, like he wanted Neveah to see clearly how much her words hurt him.
"If I have ever made you unclear on what exactly you mean to me...it is all the more reason I will make it clear this time."
"I have no intentions of letting you go, Neveah. I have never once harbored such intent and I never will... not even if you ask it of me." Xenon replied.
"Things are different now, Xenon. There is no us... not anymore." Neveah said in a pained whisper.
"For all these months! I have fought against my own mind to get back to you! To be the man that can be worthy of you! To be a man that could tell you in my words how much my heart longed for you!"
"It took everything in me not to rain hell when I knew you were with another! All I did was fight for the possibility of an ’us’! And what? Not anymore?...With whose permission?" Xenon asked in a frighteningly calm tone.
"With whose permission do you dare forget me, Veah?...With whose permission do you dare move on from me? Just who allowed it?!" Xenon hissed.
In a flash, he was before Neveah, staring right down into her shocked eyes.
"You imprinted yourself on my heart from the moment I set eyes on you...if you wish to cast the blame on anyone, blame yourself."
"You were daring enough to claim my heart, daring enough to make me pine after you so desperately. Well, I am already yours now... I will have you take responsibility for it." Xenon made clear.
