Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 419: A Month Later ()
~A Month Later
It was the crack of dawn marking the beginning of a new day and it was greeted by the booming beats of the war drums that echoed across the plains.
It was not just any new day, it was the day Neveah had chosen... the day the hidden city would be brought to light.
Finally, the map Neveah had been crafting was ready and so was the fourth squadron.
"My Lady, the three teams have made their move as you instructed, all seven outposts of the dwarves are under attack!" Lodenworth reported as he strode into Neveah’s tent.
Neveah stood behind her desk, setting the last few buttons of her rider suit as she stared down at the map laid out before her.
"How long?" Neveah asked, slowly lacing up her arm band. It was the first time since arriving the dwarven outpost that Neveah would put on her rider suit.
While it was a daily attire for all riders, Neveah found a loose tunic far more comfortable and was still getting used to being in full suit at all times.
The fourth squadron had been split into four teams, the first three teams had taken flight for the seven dwarf outposts under cover of darkness and the war drums announced their arrival.
"The dwarves are prepared for battle, but so are we. The city guard are experts at warfare, the outposts will be conquered in a few hours." Lodenworth reported.
The dwarves could not have expected that the dragons who had been laying low this long would suddenly launch an attack, they were caught off guard and the battle would be easily won.
Neveah shook her head slightly as she picked up her red cloak, a recent addition to her suit and draped it over her shoulders, securing the ties at the front.
"Too soon... have Conrad and the rest of the battle lords drag it out, I need the battle to tarry till sundown. The dwarves must be kept occupied till we arrive the inner citadel, they cannot know we have breached the tunnels." Neveah instructed quietly as she leaned down to lace up her boots.
"I will pass on your orders immediately." Lodenworth said, lowering his head to a bow.
"And the fourth team?" Neveah asked.
"Lord Menarx and the rest of the team await you, My Lady. We are ready to move when you are." Lodenworth reported.
"Let’s go then." Neveah said as she finished lacing up her boot and got up to her feet, rolling up the map, she placed it in a map carrier and handed it to Lodenworth.
The map was the sole guide through the tunnels leading to the inner citadel and it also marked out the exact location of the citadel and it’s suspected layout.
"My Lady will not be navigating?" Lodenworth asked, surprised Neveah entrusted the map to him.
"I have all I need up here." Neveah said, pointing at her head. She had long memorized the map, she did not truly need to carry it around.
"Then?" Lodenworth asked, unsure why Neveah still gave him the map.
"But I am not above mistakes and I will need an actual navigator to consult with, we will only have one chance at this and that one chance must be a success, we cannot allow any mistakes."
"The map is meant for your Lady, I hear Lady Keila is an excellent navigator, I hope we can work together to ensure this goes by without hitch." Neveah explained blankly.
All this while, Neveah and Lady Keila tended to keep their distance from each other, Neveah guessed Lady Keila blamed her for Adrienne’s fate.
She could not hold it against the fairy, no one would want to watch their own sister get banished seeing the close bond the two shared, at the same time, Neveah did not feel the slightest bit sorry about it.
Lady Keila hardly ever spoke in Neveah’s presence, not even after Lord Lodenworth had warmed up to Neveah.
Neveah also had no interest in overcoming the tension with the fairy, after what happened with Adrienne, it was unlikely Adrienne’s sister and Neveah would ever get along and it was perfectly fine.
Neveah could see the surprise on Lady Keila’s face to discover that Neveah actually did take note of her strengths and was willing to work with her without Menarx pushing for it.
On Neveah’s end, it was only out of necessity and so she did not wait around to hear what Lady Keila had to say, instead she strode out of the tent.
In the center of the camp, the seven dragon lords who had been chosen to breach the inner citadel through the tunnels stood with Menarx, waiting for Neveah’s arrival.
A smile lit up Menarx’s face the moment he caught sight of Neveah and Neveah knew Menarx was always delighted to see her wearing his color.
Neveah walked over to Menarx, returning his smile with a small smile of her own before she shifted her attention to the dragon lords.
"The attacks on the seven outposts will create the perfect smoke screen and buy us the time we need." Neveah began, glancing up at the sky for a moment.
"The dwarves have access to adamantium weapons, we cannot underestimate them, as such, we cannot have the battle drag on for too long, not even to buy us more time."
"That will be placing our dragons at risk, they must finish the battle as swiftly as possible. From this moment, we have until sun down to get through the tunnels and arrive the inner citadel, that is as much time as the battles can last without one of our own getting hurt."
"If we fail to arrive in time and the dwarf king realizes our approach, we risk being stuck in the tunnels. If we fail to take the inner citadel, we risk failing His Grace’s will."
"There will be us against an army of dwarves, numbering perhaps in thousands and I would say the odds are quite unfair...to them." Neveah said blankly.
The dragon lords chuckled at Neveah’s words.
"We will take the inner citadel and execute His Grace’s will. By sun down, the inner citadel of the dwarven empire will be brought under dragon rule...there will be no other results but this." Neveah made clear.
