Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 375: Just... Disappeared ()
Celeste stood in her hall, examining the box in her hand with a small frown.
In Celeste’s eyes, it looked to be just any ordinary wooden box, the oak wood from which it was made was also nothing special.
There were intricate carvings all over the box that looked similar to runes, but none of them were familiar to Celeste.
And if they truly were runes, Celeste could not decipher their meaning or purpose.
Celeste had to wonder just what could be held within this box that had given off such a strong magical energy.
She equally could not understand what the item in this box would mean for the winged man and why he was so obsessed with getting it.
It was a part of the plan that had never been made known to Celeste. Celeste realized there was a lot that was being kept from her.
She had always believed if she worked hard enough, she could replace Azkar in the winged man’s eyes and become his most trusted confidant.
But it seemed there was a large part of their endeavour that was known only to Azkar and the winged man, there was some manner of understanding between them and Celeste could not figure it out.
How could she truly know what she was signing her clan up for if even after so many decades, she was still kept out of the loop?
Celeste heaved a quiet sigh, clenching her hands into fists at her sides as she debated opening the box for herself.
It was no harm to just take a glimpse at the contents, but at the same time, Celeste knew there was nothing she could hide from the winged man.
He had a unique way of figuring everything out, somehow...he just knew, he always knew.
If Celeste were to open the box at this moment, she wondered if what she would see within would be worth facing the winged man’s wrath.
Celeste was drawn out of her thoughts when a dark fairy stepped into her hall.
"Lady Celeste." The dark fairy greeted, lowering his head to a bow.
"How many survivors?" Celeste asked.
They had gotten what they were after and now it was time to take stock of the sacrifices.
The dark fairy did not respond immediately and Celeste exhaled heavily,
She could already guess what her subordinate was going to say but his next words still hit her hard.
"None, the storm singers were annihilated." The dark fairy relayed.
Celeste sucked in a sharp breath, her eyes fluttering closed.
It was not truly a surprise that the storm singers had not survived, they were faced against the great beasts of Asvar, how could they stand a chance?
They had put their lives on the line to create the chance for Celeste to retrieve this box and they had paid for it.
Death was unavoidable in war, sacrifices were inevitable when one was to achieve a great cause, Celeste had told this to herself time and time again.
But this was Celeste’s family, her clan...or what was left of it and each life was of great value to Celeste.
Now, she had let so many die and she did not even know the purpose of their deaths or if she could conclude it was worth it or otherwise.
"Their remains?" Celeste asked after she steadied her voice.
"We retrieved what we could before the dragons set fire to the forest. But a few were lost to the flames." The dark fairy reported.
Celeste’s clenched fists tightened painfully, the dragons were always a nuisance, they decided the fate of the stronghold as though it was their playground.
Celeste wanted them gone, she wanted to watch their dynasty crumble into nothing just like her life had, caught up in the flames they so dearly loved.
"Prepare a worthy funeral and send word to the clan, we will send them off with the highest regard." Celeste ordered quietly.
"Understood." The dark fairy said.
"And what of him?" Celeste asked.
"Lord Azkar disappeared from the scene not long after." The dark fairy reported.
"He did not attempt to save the troll golem? Could it be he was there just to save that wolf girl?" Celeste asked suspiciously.
"Lord Azkar does not show interest in such matters, he has no reasons to save a strange girl." The dark fairy replied.
"Hmmm..." Celeste hummed, thinking back to how protective Azkar had been that night.
Celeste shook her head slightly.
"Perhaps I am overthinking it." Celeste decided, nodding her permission for the dark fairy to take his leave.
When he was gone, Celeste stared down at the box once again and she put aside her apprehensions and unlocked it, slowly pushing the lid open.
Celeste’s eyes widened in alarm but she did not get to utter a word when the box was snatched from her hand.
Celeste turned around to find the winged man and Azkar both sat in her hall, staring at her pointedly.
When they had arrived or how they had gotten in, Celeste could not imagine but she immediately began explaining herself. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"I did not touch it, I swear it. I brought it over as it was, I do not know what happened." Celeste explained quickly.
"You mean to say the contents of the box just... disappeared?" The winged man asked, turning over the empty box, a dark look in his eyes.
"Celeste...you had best provide me a reasonable explanation." The winged man added.
The wheels spun in Celeste’s head and it was then it clicked.
"My Lord! It was the girl, the wolf girl! Her blood activated the treasure within the box... I saw it with my own eyes, the box glowed and released a strange magical force that attacked me!" Celeste exclaimed.
The winged man raised a brow, glancing down at the box with a complicated expression.
"You mean to say, the treasure was activated by her blood... " The winged man murmured.
"That would mean...it bonded with her. The treasure...is now the girl." The winged man whispered, passing a look to a silent Azkar.
