Chapter 358: A Team (Ch.358)

The dark energy spread from the cut on Neveah’s palm, churning through her veins up the length of her hand and then back down.

The pain felt as though Neveah’s right hand had been set on fire, it was excruciating.

Neveah’s hand trembled as she tried to ignore the pain but it only grew worse the more she tried to ignore it.

It was even more painful than the broken rib or being slammed into a tree.

"A mark of dark magic, how did this happen?!" Menarx snarled furiously, his rage clearly directed at Cassian.

"Narx, no...they know nothing about it. No one did." Neveah quickly defended, her words forced out through gritted teeth.

Neveah had not realized that getting the blood of the troll golem into her wound would leave such an effect, even now, Neveah could not understand what this was.

She did not have to ponder over it, Everon took Neveah’s hand from Menarx and inspected it.

"Everon, what does this mean?" Menarx hissed, supporting Neveah’s weight against himself.

"I do not know how she came in contact with it, but a strand of the golem’s dark energy has seeped into her bloodstream."

"For the time being, it is nothing to worry about. I do not sense any venom." Everon assured.

"You can heal it then?" Menarx asked in relief.

"I fear this is not something I can heal. It will go away on it’s own when the troll golem is killed." Everon revealed in a grim tone.

Menarx was about to say more but his words were cut off when loud roars shook the forest and that haunting tune grew even louder.

"And here comes ’whatever is not singing’." Cassian murmured as he stepped forward, his stance battle ready.

None of these roars came from the troll golem and they were all clear on this fact, their company was more than just dark fairies and a troll golem.

It was a full blown attack and the dragon lords were ready for it.

Dozens of kobold beasts surged out of the forest line, charging for the dragon lords at full speed.

Their hideous forms were well concealed by the darkness, but Neveah could still see them well enough. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Monstrous beasts that stood on two hooves, huge in size with sharp horns and even sharper rows of teeth.

These beasts were even more terrifying than the ones Neveah and Menarx had faced while they searched for the herb to save Imagor’s rider.

"It’s game battle lords! Light it up!" Cassian snarled as he lifted a hand, circling it to signal his orders to the dragons above.

The dragon lords were more than willing to comply, loud roars quaked through the sky as a torrent of flames was rained down on the first wave of kobold beasts.

The shrieks of the kobold beasts as they caught on fire echoed hauntingly through the night, blending with that haunting tone in the background to create an eerie harmony.

The dragon lords below were unfazed, the three dragon lords above seemed to have it covered, creating a wall of flames that fended off the kobold beasts.

Neveah winced slightly, the stench of burning flesh was harsh to Neveah’s sensitive senses and the scorching heat of dragon flame was almost unbearable even from the distance she stood.

Of course, the rest of the dragon lords were completely unaffected.

The flames lit up the dark night, banishing the darkness that encased the camp, but the shadows licked up at the roaring flames, battling to swallow it up.

The flames of the dragon lords were not so easily overpowered and they burned even more fiercely, the dragons raining down continuous streams.

"Keep them down!" Cassian roared as even more kobold beasts charged out of nowhere.

Neveah’s attention was drawn away from the excellence of the battle dragons when that pain begun again.

"Here, this will help with the pain." Everon offered Neveah a strange, yellow pill.

Neveah swallowed the pill without questions, still leaned against Menarx who stared down at her in deep concern.

"I am fine, it is nothing." Neveah assured.

Cassian retreated back to where Neveah stood, also taking Neveah’s hand to inspect the blackened flesh around the cut.

"I am the least of your concerns. The troll golem is somewhere out in the forest... in a rage, and we have our hands full here."

"Whatever is out there is in danger, you must make provisions accordingly. " Neveah insisted.

"Can you tell where exactly?" Rodvan asked.

Neveah groaned quietly, focusing her senses beyond the pain.

"North of here... that’s where I sense it." Neveah said in a grim tone.

"Decaron did not go North..." Rodvan began but was cut off when Cassian hissed loudly in rage.

"It’s not Decaron it’s after, it’s Jian!" Cassian exclaimed.

"What?!" Menarx was immediately alarmed.

"He did not return to camp with me, Jian is out in the forest on the hill exactly North of here... I’ve been unable to reach him too, I assumed he shut me out." Cassian said.

No words were exchanged but Kaideon and Rodvan took off, taking their dragon form, they shot to the sky and were soon out of sight.

"What now?" Neveah asked.

"Decaron’s safety and that of the young Starron girl and her dragon lord must be ensured, but the rightful place of the king’s guard is by their king." Was the only response Cassian gave before he also shot up into the sky.

"Everon will handle things here, you may chose to go with me...or wait here for me, but I must go to Jian." Menarx told Neveah.

"But Everon says you can’t shift yet..." Neveah began to protest but trailed off knowing Menarx would only consider his duties first.

"Then we go together, we’re a team Narx...you and I." Neveah made clear.

Menarx nodded and stepped away from Neveah, his transformation was swift and soon, the massive red dragon stood before Neveah.

Neveah wasted no time, climbing her way up to Menarx’s back, with a leap, Menarx shot off into the sky.

But not before raining a torrent of flames down on the kobolds below,

As the tales told, the scorching flames of the ruby beast burned hotter than any other flame in the vast stronghold,

Neveah saw the truth for herself as she watched everything Menarx’s flame touched, razed down to nothingness.
