Chapter 187: An Order To Leave (Ch.187)

"The Black Network..." Estelle murmured, her hand moving to the dagger in her belt as a deadly glint flashed in her eyes.

Estelle could not believe what a grave mistake she would have made, joining hands with her sworn enemy... the murderers that had taken her mother’s life.

"You survived one meeting with me, you shall not survive another." Estelle vowed to herself.

Before Estelle could do anything else, the doors came open and Lord Starron stormed in.

Lord Starron paused for a moment, staring straight at Estelle for only a split second before his eyes moved down to the box of oak wood in her grasp.

Estelle’s eyes widened in horror to be faced with her father’s sudden arrival.

"Father!...I can explain... I’m sorry... I’m sorry!" Estelle panicked immediately, fearing her father’s wrath.

Estelle was left in shock when Lord Starron turned and slammed the door shut.

"I’m glad to find you here, Elle... quickly, fetch a cloak." Lord Starron instructed immediately.

Lord Starron then moved over to his desk and took hold of it’s sides, lifting it up with ease.

He moved the large desk over to the door, blocking it before he turned to Estelle again.

"What is going on?" Estelle asked uneasily as she hurried to do her father’s bidding, fetching the cloak.

"The first flight patrol did not return, they sent word of a strange energy out at the borders."

"I dispatched the second patrol to aid them in investigating it but it was all a diversion."

"As we speak, the castle is under attack... the Black Network has stormed the ground floor." Lord Starron informed Estelle as he moved back to her and took the cloak, draping it over her shoulders.

Estelle’s eyes widened at her father’s revelation.

Fort Blazed had but two internal flight patrols, the other flight patrols were dispatched directly from Dragon Keep.

If both patrols were sent out, then there were ten titled dragons left behind in Fort Blazed. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Even against an entire army, a single dragon could hold his ground. But against dark sorcerers and black magic, it was a different case altogether.

"Father, what are you doing?" Estelle asked nervously as Lord Starron secured the strings of the cloak for her.

"A spell has been cast over the castle, no one within the castle can take dragon form. We will have to face them directly... but first, you must leave Fort Blazed." Lord Starron said in a serious tone.

"What?! No!" Estelle exclaimed in horror.

Lord Starron gripped Estelle’s shoulder tightly, looking her dead in the eyes.

"You know this castle better than anyone, if anyone can slip out successfully, it is you."

" No one knows Fort Blazed is under attack, you must find the flight patrol... have the blazed dragons send word to our Liege and then return immediately." Lord Starron instructed.

"But...but I can’t just leave you!" Estelle exclaimed, shaking her head in refusal.

"Listen Elle! Your father is Lord Starron of Fort Blazed, do you understand that? I will not be taken down by mere sorcerers but I can only rest easy if you are safe!" Lord Starron snapped before he sucked in a deep breath.

"They have not come to kill me...they cannot kill me either, they have come for that box in your hands. That box is more important than everything else, we cannot let it fall into the wrong hands."

"Now you will send word to the blazed dragons and have that box escorted safely to Dragon Keep."

"Do you understand me, Estelle Starron?" Lord Starron asked in a firm tone.

"Yes...My Lord..." Estelle stuttered out knowing her father was not making a request but giving an order.

Nothing else could be said when approaching footsteps became audible.

Lord Starron reached to his neck and took off the key chain he always wore, putting it over Estelle’s neck so it rested against her chest.

"I always thought there would be time enough, I wished for you to live free of worries..." Lord Starron began, pausing briefly.

"You are my one and only heir, no matter what anyone says. And in time, you will rule Fort Blazed... your father has never considered anyone else."

"You may not be born a dragon but you have my blood and you blaze the brightest of my blazed dragons. You are worthy...do not ever think otherwise."

"This would have been yours to protect...it is our family’s sworn duty. I will entrust it to you much earlier." Lord Starron said to Estelle.

"The trap door underneath your mother’s plaque will see you down to the lower floor safely... leave now." Lord Starron instructed.

Estelle’s lips trembled as a sob was stuck in her throat, her father had never sounded this way to her and it terrified her greatly.

"I’ll be back soon... I swear it. I will get the blazed dragons and raze down those bastards!" Estelle vowed as she clutched the box of oak wood tighter to herself.

Lord Starron guided Estelle over to the pillar on which her mother’s plaque rested.

Pushing aside the pillar to reveal the trap door hidden beneath.

Lord Starron pulled open the trapdoor and offered a hand to Estelle, helping her climb down into the trap door.

Estelle stood on one of the bars, staring up at Lord Starron, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Elle...you have to let go." Lord Starron reminded Estelle with a small smile, referring to the tight grip Estelle still had on her father’s hand.

"I don’t want to..." Estelle croaked out and Lord Starron sighed.

"Silly child, how shall you handle the responsibility as heir of Fort Blazed if you are still so emotional?" Lord Starron asked.

Estelle bit her trembling lip and slowly let go of her father’s hand.

"Remember, find the blazed dragons and tell them of the attack on Fort Blazed. They are not to take any rash actions, Fort Blazed is encased in dark magic."

"Afterwards, entrust the box to your Uncle Ranjor to deliver it to our Liege. If anything is remiss out there...you must deliver it yourself." Lord Starron reminded.

Estelle nodded in understanding, her heart sank when Lord Starron brought down the trap door.

The last Estelle saw was her father’s assuring smile before the door was shut and the darkness beneath swallowed her up.
