Chapter 184: An Offer (Ch.184)

The small clearing was just as breathtakingly beautiful as Estelle remembered it and the moment she stepped out from the close of trees, her heart already felt at ease.

Estelle let her eyes wander around the clearing she loved so much, not many people knew of it’s existence and the humans could not be bothered to venture this far into the forest seeking a moment of peace.

However for Estelle, there was no place more beautiful than this in all of Fort Blazed.

Estelle had come at the best time, with the moon high in the sky, it was perfectly reflected in the small lake and Estelle walked towards the edge of the water,

She pulled her shoes off, dipping her feet into the chilling cold water as she sat by the side of the lake. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Estelle pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her head down on her knees, watching the water in silence and basking in the peace and serenity of the atmosphere.

"Would you mind if I joined you?" An unfamiliar voice broke through the haze of Estelle’s thoughts.

There was something about that voice that sent a cold chill down Estelle’s spine and her instincts screamed of danger.

If there was something Lord Starron had made clear to his daughter, it was the fact that she was never to doubt her instincts and every teaching given by her father, Estelle had taken it to heart.

Estelle was on her feet in the next moment, her hand shooting to the dagger in her belt and her eyes narrowed as she regarded the strange man clothed in black.

There was a pitch black cloak draped over his shoulders that made his silhouette blend perfectly into the darkness, with a large hood over his face that hid his visage in shadows.

Estelle squinted slightly but the man stood just away from the rays of the moonlight and Estelle could not pick out any discerning feature.

"Well... that is one way to receive a guest." The strange man said to Estelle, clucking his tongue audibly.

"Who are you?" Estelle asked immediately, her tone dangerously low as she drew her dagger slightly.

Estelle could not tell exactly what this man was but she knew for certain that he was no dragon.

"Not the one you were expecting, clearly... and frankly, my name is of no consequence to you, young lightblood." The strange man said with a casual shrug.

Estelle’s brows narrowed into a frown, unsure of what the strange man was on about and why he knew exactly who she was.

"Since you know who I am, you should know that sneaking up on me like this is not a good idea." Estelle pointed out in a dark tone.

"Sneaking up on you was not exactly my intention." The strange man replied.

"You moved soundlessly and I cannot sense you...if that does not speak of your intention, then I do not know what does." Estelle said suspiciously.

"If you send me away so rudely, you will miss out on the offer I bring along with me...an offer which I must say, you cannot refuse." The strange man said, leaning back against a tree.

"Offer? What might you have that Estelle Starron of Fort Blazed would need?" Estelle scoffed indignantly.

The strange man tilted his head to the side, regarding Estelle in silence for a moment.

"There is a place called the Isle of Kezrar Dún, there...all desires can be granted. I can tell you how to get there, but that is only if you want to know." The strange man offered.

"Kezrar Dún... what isle? Whatever makes you believe there is something I desire?" Estelle snapped, already losing her patience with this strange man.

"Easy child...you have in you the blood of flames, yet you cannot blaze like your kin...but I must tell you, there was was a time where lightbloods did not exist."

"Instead, there were she dragons... great beasts of the sky that soared side by side with the Lord Dragons." The strange man revealed.

At the mention of she dragons, Estelle froze up immediately.

"You lie! Everyone knows there are no she dragons!" Estelle hissed furiously, angered that the topic of conversation was exact to what burdened her heart.

"Do you truly believe that? That the gift of dragon form was granted only to males? That there never once was a female of dragon kind? Could there be such an unfair restriction in any race?"

"Could the creator be so unjust... preferring the male to the female?" The strange man quizzed.

Estelle opened her mouth to argue but had no words and so she could only fall back to silence.

She had also thought of it time without number, how could there be such an unfair restriction of nature? That being born a female meant one could never shift?

"Do you also know, that what hinders your shift is not nature...but magic?" The strange man asked again.

This time, Estelle’s eyes widened and her hand fell away from the dagger on her belt.

Never had her father mentioned anything of such to her, Estelle had always believed there had never been a female dragon.

But the conviction in the words of the man in black made it clear to Estelle that his words could perhaps be true.

"Do you also know that this barrier of magic placed upon you can be lifted? By the harnessing of your dragon blood...you could be the first she dragon to soar the Asvarian skies since it’s founding?" The strange man asked again.

Estelle’s hands trembled slightly as the words of the strange man echoed repeatedly in her mind, over and over again and before she realized it, a single question slipped out of her.

"What ... what do you want?" Estelle asked in a shaky tone and deep within her,

Estelle’s instincts told her she would end up regretting these words but words that had been said could not be taken back.
