Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 183: Unfair Fate ()
The sun had finally set, yet all the excitement and anticipation in Estelle’s heart had flitted away, replaced by a heavy feeling of despair and helplessness.
Each step Estelle took forward was a mindless action, she did not even know exactly where she was headed, she had no destination in mind, she just wanted to keep walking.
Perhaps if Estelle walked far enough, her troubles would be eased, or perhaps her muscles would ache enough that it could overpower the ache in her heart.
This was the first time in Estelle’s life that she had argued with her father, outrightly confronted him in such a manner and even walked out on him.
Yet how could Estelle deny just how right her father’s words were? How could she overlook the fact that a lightblood could never be as blessed as a true dragon was?
’You are no dragon...’ Lord Starron’s words echoed in Estelle’s mind as she walked through the courtyard of the Blazed Castle.
This was a reality that had always burdened heavily on Estelle’s mind, even when no one spoke of it or thought less of her for it.
Estelle was the one who thought less of herself, who felt inadequate...who felt that fate had been unfair to her and to everyone else who had been born in the same situation as she was.
Born to a dragon and his rider, Estelle had pure Asvarian blood flowing through her veins,
Estelle was impervious to flames, she was strong, fast and possessed heightened senses, everything that should have made her a true dragon lord.
Everything that should have made her worthy to be the successor to the lordship of fort blazed without the need of bonding to any dragon lord.
And yet, she was not. Without the ability to shift, Estelle could never stand on the same plane as the dragons of the Asvarian stronghold, she could never rule a fort or lead a flight patrol.
Estelle could never command the dragon guards, her authority would only ever go as far as the internal affairs of the blazed castle and even that privilege was granted to her only because her father made it so.
Estelle would never be able to feel the wind in her wings, or race against the clouds like her father did... she would never be able to see the world from high up in the skies and be considered a protector of the stronghold.
Estelle desired this, she desired all of this badly and her father knew it too.
There was nothing Estelle could change about who she was, but here came a chance with which Estelle could attain all she desired.
Yes, Estelle could never be a dragon herself but as a dragon rider, everything she longed for would become hers, yet at what cost?
’If you chose to love a mortal... would you give up your longevity for him? I have already lost your mother, would you let me outlive my own daughter?’ Lord Starron’s words sounded haunting in Estelle’s mind.
Estelle had claimed they could find a way, but she knew clearly there was but one way. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Estelle was one who was neither dragon nor human but to be with Jason, Estelle would have to become human.
Estelle could not be a true dragon, but could she truly live as a human? Could she forego her family and her clan for a few fleeting decades of happiness?
Without her father and her clan, Estelle wondered if she could even be truly happy...her father was all she had, how could Estelle bear to hurt him so terribly?
Placed between her desire for a place amongst her people and her love for Jason, Estelle was left feeling suffocated and helpless.
What was the right way? Was there no solution where she could keep it all? Estelle did not want to lose anything, she did not want to forsake anyone.
But if she had to... if truly there was no other choice, Estelle already knew what her choice would be.
"I promised Jason we would be together, I cannot let him down...as long as I have him, everything will be fine." Estelle assured herself in a low tone.
With her heart set on a choice, Estelle’s attention finally returned to her surrounding.
Glancing around, Estelle realized she had gone far beyond blazed castle and into the city.
"How long have I been walking exactly?" Estelle wondered to herself as she glanced up to find the moon was already high in the sky.
It was late into the night and Estelle had left the castle in the early evening.
At least four hours had gone by, perhaps more, Estelle could not tell exactly.
It was always like this with her, when Estelle’s mind was burdened, she would lose track of time and find herself heading into the city, right down this path.
Estelle knew exactly where her heart had been leading her. A short distance from where Estelle stood was the entrance to the woods and within the woods,
There was a clearing with a clear lake that reflected the moonlight. Estelle recalled she would always come out here with her mother when she was much younger.
It was her mother’s favorite place and somehow, it had become Estelle’s favorite place too.
Whenever her heart was burdened, Estelle could always find peace and clarity there...it was her own place of escape.
"I have already come this far... I might as well go on." Estelle murmured to herself.
Though Estelle had already made her choice and her heart was firmly set on her decision, she hoped to find the courage it would take to make such a bold step.
Estelle continued down the path, grateful for the cover of darkness that hid her identity from the commoners passing by.
It was so late in the night, yet fort blazed still bustled as though it was daytime.
Even from the lonely street Estelle walked through, she could hear the sounds of life from all around her.
Sounds of laughter and bliss, of children scurrying about and causing unending troubles...
"In this beautiful city, my beloved fort blazed...in this city my ancestors have protected for centuries... even without my castle or titles, out here as one of these people."
"It may be just a few fleeting years, yet I believe, I can still be happy." Estelle murmured to herself, a small smile settled on her lips.
