Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 162: Two Better Than One ()
The closer King Jian and Menarx got to the dungeons, the more potent the intensity of magic grew, just as the unpleasant sound grew louder in their ears.
While the hum of magic was clear and sonorous, the sound of dark magic was an ominous ringing that bounced off the walls of the keep.
For the dragons with their sensitive hearing, it was a piercing sound that brought along with it unpleasant memories of their ancestry and the centuries when they were susceptible to magic and preyed on.
King Jian stormed down into the dungeons, Cassian and Kirgan had both met with them halfway and so all five dragon lords arrived Menarx’s district at the same time.
The place tagged ’Lord Menarx’s district’ was a section of the dungeons where the most hardened criminals were remanded to be seen to by Menarx in person.
These kind of criminals were those who had committed the gravest offences and yet were willing to die before they made any confessions.
For such criminals, there was still Menarx who could make any kind of person confess whatever he wanted them to with his mastery of interrogation and torture arts.
It was a section that was carefully guarded by dragon guards and as they arrived, the five lord dragons took note of the fact that the district was still well guarded.
The dragon guards stood guard as they always would and from first glance, nothing seemed out of place in the district.
"Kaideon?" King Jian said to the dune lord.
Kaideon moved ahead, leading the rest of the way through the dungeons, he took turns following the trace of dark magic he sensed till they arrived at a certain cell.
This was the cell where the fairies who had attempted to poison King Jian were held and though the cell itself was intact, within the cell was a different situation.
"What are they doing?!" Kirgan hissed as the Lord Dragons took in the sight of the two fairies.
They each sat cross legged in their respective cells, the chains restraining them had somehow disappeared and they both were deep in meditation.
While Menarx stood bristling in anger, unable to believe such a malicious activity could occur in his district,
What caught King Jian’s eyes first was the rune drawn around the fairies, the rune was drawn from a thick red substance, 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
And the pungent metallic stench made it clear that the substance was blood.
From the strange chants emitted from them and the pulsing aura of dark magic within the cell, it was clear the two fairies were casting a spell.
"Does it matter?" Cassian asked in a menacing tone.
"It doesn’t." Kirgan concurred.
It was no longer a case of what the fairies were doing but the fact that they were daring enough to practice dark sorcery even while locked up.
It was a tacit agreement amongst the Lord Dragons, there was no longer a need to keep them alive.
A low growl escaped Kirgan as he stormed over to the cell and kicked open the door, sending the metal door flying off it’s hinges and crashing into the wall.
"Wait! Stop!" A voice called out just before Kirgan could lunge at the first fairy.
King Jian glanced over at who had interrupted and his brows furrowed slightly to find the fairy lord of the light hall, Lord Nalon.
Unsurprisingly, he was escorted by his Lord Dragon, Lord Vick.
Lord Nalon was a thin, tall man with hair the shade of copper and honey brown eyes, his spectral wings fluttered behind him as he moved, telling of his agitated state.
Meanwhile, Lord Vick, a broad and muscular Lord dragon with dusty brown hair and a fierce demeanor trailed behind him.
Both had been apprehended after the event at the light hall and locked up in different places within the keep, yet they had somehow arrived the dungeon together.
"Our Liege has ordered for you to remain within your quarters till ordered otherwise...is this an act of defiance?!" Cassian snarled, moving to block the fairy lord from getting any closer to King Jian.
"My Liege, Nalon would never defy your order. I bid you to hear him out." Lord Vick spoke up, moving to shield Lord Nalon from Cassian’s rage.
"Cassian, stand down." King Jian ordered.
Cassian stepped aside as he was instructed, allowing Lords Nalon and Vick to approach King Jian.
"My Liege, I have sensed the presence of dark magic and I had to come in person."
" I promise you, this is not a spell of the fairies...my kind do not practice dark magic." Lord Nalon began earnestly.
"I am aware, I would not let your kind within my keep otherwise." King Jian replied calmly, though with the pulsing of dark magic all around, he was anything but.
"This is a spell of dark sorcery, though all magic wielders are capable of dark magic, it is an art that is not easy to master."
"Of all those left living that still practice dark arts, the most renowned is the black network." Lord Nalon continued.
"Menarx also believes your light hall has been compromised by the black network. But I did not think it would be to such an extent..." King Jian murmured, glancing back at the fairies still engrossed in their spell.
"It is my negligence as the Lord of the light hall. I will find every last one of them who have sold their souls to the darkness, I will not let them taint the light hall any further." Lord Nalon vowed solemnly.
"Why did you stop Kirgan?" Cassian demanded from where he stood, feeling uneasy that the spell of dark sorcery was still unfolding right before their eyes.
"Forgive me, My Liege. But I have a little knowledge of the dark arts and a spell such as this one... it is a spell you do not want to break." Lord Nalon said in a grim tone.
"Kirgan...step back." King Jian ordered immediately, not willing to take a chance with any of his brothers.
"What kind of spell is it?" King Jian asked when Kirgan was a safe distance from the fairy.
"My Liege, it is some form of illusion spell." Lord Nalon revealed.
"An illusion spell?" Menarx murmured in confusion.
"An illusion spell is an extremely powerful spell of dark magic, it is a spell that is cast with a set target."
"The target is pulled into an illusion, unable to determine what is real and what is not and within this illusion, all of the target’s greatest fears become the weapon against the target."
"The target is stuck within a world of illusion where everything and anything can kill him." Lord Nalon said.
King Jian’s eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced back at the fairies.
"Who is the target? Who are they after?" King Jian asked immediately.
"All that is required is a personal item of the target and the spell will take effect wherever the target is." Lord Nalon said.
"A personal item?" King Jian murmured before he nodded to Kirgan.
Kirgan walked over to the fairy and crouched down, his eyes scanning the meditating fairy before they settled on the fairy’s hand that was clenched into a fist.
Kirgan pried the fist of the fairy open and pulled out a strip of clothing, lifting it up to his gaze.
"It is... a piece of black fabric." Kirgan spoke up.
"Black fabric?!" Menarx exclaimed as he stormed into the cell and snatched the fabric from Kirgan’s hand, lifting it to his view,
Almost immediately, a faint yet extremely familiar scent hit him.
There was only one person other than Lord Xenon who wore nothing but black clothing within the keep and that scent was unmistakable.
A scent that was stuck on Menarx’s mind at every moment, how could he not recognize it?
"Veah! This is Neveah’s!" Menarx exclaimed, his eyes widening with horror as he hurried back to King Jian and handed him the strip of black fabric.
King Jian’s gaze furrowed slightly but he did not doubt Menarx’s conclusion.
For whatever reason...he also recognized this scent immediately, his sheets exuded this same scent after that night... Was that not why he furiously ordered for them to be changed?
"Why exactly would they want to target the girl?" King Jian murmured beneath his breath.
"Need you ask?" Menarx countered, fixing King Jian with a glare.
King Jian understood Menarx’s meaning, though no one dared speak of it... save for Xenon.
The fact remained, on that night in the light hall, Neveah had risked her life to save King Jian and in turn, she had ruined the plan of the black network.
Which meant, she had now become someone they wanted to get rid off.
"Can the spell be broken?" King Jian asked Lord Nalon.
"I fear...a spell already cast can only be broken by the target herself, that is why I have stopped Lord Kirgan."
" If anyone interferes with the spell at this moment...both the casters and the target will all die."
"Whoever she is... wherever she is, she will be facing her death and none of you can save her." Lord Nalon said in a grim tone.
King Jian’s gaze darkened at that as he passed a glance to Menarx who visibly shook in rage.
"I will find her...do not ask me not to get involved." Menarx stated clearly.
"Two is still better than one..." King Jian murmured as he glanced down at the strip of black fabric before he headed out of the dungeon.
