Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 158: A Reminder ()
Neveah’s eyelids grew heavy, it was already impossible to hold up her hand and so Neveah’s hand fell away from Xenon’s cheek to her side.
Slowly, Neveah’s eyes fluttered closed and it was at that moment that Xenon’s grip on her throat loosened.
Neveah crumbled to the ground and a sudden surge of air invaded her airway, Neveah gasped, coughing violently as her lungs forcefully took in as much air as was possible.
Neveah gasped for breath as she held unto her throat, her chest visibly rising and falling rapidly whilst.
All the while, Xenon watched in horror, his hand still poised mid air and Neveah’s blood dripping from his claws that had pierced into the sides of her neck.
The horrified look on his face reflected his disbelief at his own actions.
Neveah’s coughing fit was yet to calm but she lifted a worried look to Xenon, at Neveah’s stare, Xenon staggered backwards, unable to withstand Neveah’s accusing look.
"Are...are you back...?" Neveah croaked out, her voice raspy.
Neveah was certain her windpipe had been bruised, the bruising around her neck was extremely severe.
"I... I..." Xenon stuttered out, taking some steps back yet again.
"It’s okay... it’s fine..." Neveah assured as she again broke into a coughing fit, dragging herself up to sitting position so she leaned against the tree behind her.
"Okay?..." Xenon questioned, his tone was shaky and he shook his head in disagreement.
"It...s not..." Xenon said again, his voice barely above a whisper as he turned away.
Neveah could understand Xenon’s guilt, he had been one second away from taking her life and he only restrained himself barely.
Even now, Neveah could see Xenon still battled with the darkness within.
"I... Leave..." Xenon ordered Neveah in a chilling cold tone just as Neveah struggled up to her feet. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Neveah took note of Xenon’s twitching hands and she realized it was not over yet.
"Leave...now!" Xenon growled out in an animalistic tone.
"It didn’t happen Xenon... nothing happened. You took control...you can control it. Just please... whatever this is, fight it..." Neveah reasoned as she watched Xenon from where she stood.
"I can... not... fight it..." Xenon replied in a pained tone as he clenched his hands into fists, his claws digging into his own flesh.
"You were fine just a day ago... how did this happen?" Neveah asked worriedly.
"You..." Xenon growled out as he turned around to face Neveah, his gaze settling on her again.
Neveah gulped audibly as she watched Xenon’s savage eyes staring at her in a predatory manner.
But what left Neveah speechless was Xenon’s accusation.
"I... triggered the wild haze?" Neveah asked uncertainly, unable to understand Xenon’s meaning.
Xenon’s eyes darted to the painting of Misha rolled open on the ground and Neveah trailed his gaze.
"Misha...you called me that. Since when did you begin to see me as... someone else?" Neveah asked slowly, watching Xenon’s eyes.
Xenon did not respond, his head twitched slightly and Neveah lifted a hand, running it through her hair in frustration as her mind began making assumptions.
"How long? Could it be that... right from the start...?"
"The reason you were so intrigued by me from first sight... the reason even you cannot tell exactly was because... I remind you of her?" Neveah asked in a low tone.
Again, no response came from Xenon. Neveah was not even certain he could hear her as he battled against the darkness for control of his own will.
"So... I was never the antidote, instead... I am just a reminder of it..." Neveah murmured, shaking her head slightly.
"Leave..." Xenon growled out for the third time.
Neveah nodded slowly, this time, she was the one who took a step back.
"I am of no help to you... I shouldn’t be here at all... I’m sorry. I hope you get past this." Neveah murmured in a low tone as she turned and hurried away back the way she had come.
Within her mind, Neveah thought...
’For once in my life, I believed I was special...as always, I was wrong.’

The door to the healer’s hall burst open and Rosalie hurried in, rushing over to her seat beside Adrienne and Celia.
Both were already seated and Rosalie was the one who had arrived late.
"Did you hear it?" Rosalie whispered as she took her seat, panting.
"Hear what? You know of everything that happens in the keep first but you never arrive in class on time." Celia whose nose was buried in her journal murmured.
"Oh, come of it. You just come here for personal study...all residents in the keep are indoors today and I only came because I knew I’d find you two here." Rosalie replied with a roll of her eyes.
"Well, I knew I’d find Celia here nose deep in her journal, but Addie? You already concluded your journal, what brings you to the hall?" Rosalie asked curiously.
"Addie’s sister had her come over here to study, she is not allowed to leave till sunset. She won’t say what she did to anger Lady Keila." Celia relayed without glancing up.
"Do not take it to heart, with all that is going on, all the riders are on edge at the moment." Rosalie chipped in.
"The mood in this keep, I could not sleep a wink all night... I pray this storm passes soon..." Celia grumbled beneath her breath.
"What do you think I came to tell you in such a rush?! Lady Kaliana has put to birth safely!" Rosalie exclaimed in excitement.
Celia and Adrienne glanced up at the same time.
"Truly?" Celia asked, placing her book aside.
"Without a doubt! Even that attendant wanders freely through the keep now!" Rosalie relayed.
"Well, I did hear she exerted great efforts to save Lady Kaliana, it is only natural merits cancel out the crime. Makes one wonder why she even took the herb in the first place." Celia said, shaking her head slightly.
"You are still missing the point!" Rosalie exclaimed in exasperation.
"What point?" Celia asked with a frown.
"In a nutshell... the attendant saved Lady Kaliana and the child..." Rosalie pointed out.
"I think we already got that much." Celia scoffed.
"And before this, a royal decree was passed by His Grace..." Rosalie reminded.
"Oh my! Whoever saves Lady Kaliana gets a wish! The attendant gets a wish from His Grace!" Celia exclaimed, finally understanding Rosalie’s point.
"Isn’t that just heaven defying luck?" Rosalie asked with a dreamy sigh.
"I know... right?" Adrienne murmured as she rose to her feet.
"You’re leaving?" Celia asked.
"Hmm... it’s sunset already. I would like a rest." Adrienne replied absent mindedly as she headed out of the healer’s hall.
Adrienne made her way down the hall, her hands clenched into tight fists at her side while her warm smile was intact on her lips and her countenance was perfectly calm and graceful as always.
Adrienne stepped into the ascending room, finding it was already occupied by Davina.
"My Lady." Davina greeted, lowering her head to a bow.
Adrienne hummed in response as she stepped into the ascending room with Davina.
"Oh right, I planned to pay a visit to the fourth level later today." Davina began after a moment of quiet.
"The seamstress will tailor a few new dresses for the ladies on the fourth level, would My Lady have any specific requirements?" Davina asked.
"For what purpose?" Adrienne murmured distractedly, her mind was occupied with other thoughts and she was not in the mood for a conversation at this moment.
"The test for new attendants will take place soon, as will the annual tests for all academies. Lord Rodrick has ordered the attendants pay close attention to the trainee healers." Davina replied.
"Ah... I seem to have forgotten that. For the time being, nothing comes to mind." Adrienne replied with a forced smile.
"Then I will send up some attendants to fetch My lady’s measurements in a few hours. Perhaps by then, my lady would have a request?" Davina suggested.
"I do not wish to have anyone unfamiliar around me at the time." Adrienne replied, struggling to maintain her calm when all she wanted to do was snap at the attendant.
Had it been any other attendant, Adrienne would already have put the lowly being in her place, but this was Lord Rodrick’s daughter, the only attendant Adrienne had to be polite with.
"Then would My Lady prefer I see to your measurements myself?" Davina offered.
"Whatever suits you." Adrienne replied as the ascending room came to a stop and she stepped out of it.
"I will come by in a short time" Davina said as the doors to the ascending room closed.
Adrienne continued down the hall till she arrived at her room, pushing open the door, Adrienne stepped in and slammed it shut.
Adrienne leaned against the door, breathing heavily as her gaze narrowed slightly.
"Arrrghh!!" Adrienne screamed furiously as she stormed over to her table and swiped down the contents, watching them all crash down to the ground.
"She gets to go free? With whose permission?!" Adrienne hissed as she slammed a hand down on her table, her eyes blazing with fury.
Adrienne’s eyes fluttered closed as she tried to contain her breathing and regain her calm.
As the rage eased, Adrienne’s mind strayed back to a recent memory.
