Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 155: Beyond The Inner Cavern ()
"Xenon?" Neveah called as she stepped into the cave after a treacherous climb up the steep mountain.
All the while, when Xenon scaled up the mountain with Neveah clinging to him, the black dragon had made it appear so easy.
But after a few slips that quite nearly sent Neveah tumbling down to the depths below, Neveah understood nothing was ever as easy as it looked.
Now, Neveah had finally arrived within the cave. She glanced around the wide outer cavern,
Everything was exactly as Neveah remembered it from when last she was here,
The pile of furs... Neveah’s history books piled at the side and even the caved in wall from where Xenon had been slammed into by King Jian, everything was just the same.
Xenon had moved nothing out of place and Neveah guessed he did not have the time or leisure to, not when he had spent the past few days worrying for her.
"He is a rare soul..." Neveah murmured to herself, a small smile settling on her lips.
Neveah moved deeper into the cave, Xenon was nowhere in sight but Neveah knew he was close by, she could pick up his scent from where she stood.
"Xenon?" Neveah called again.
Again, there was no response given and Neveah’s brows furrowed in concern.
Xenon would definitely have sensed her presence no matter where he was and yet he had not come out, it was unlike him.
Neveah considered taking her leave and returning at a later time, but after that treacherous climb, she felt it would be silly to leave without seeing who she had come for.
Neveah’s eyes settled on the entrance to the inner cavern, she had never been in there before, there was never a reason to since Xenon fetched whatever she needed before Neveah could even think to ask.
Neveah pursed her lips slightly, contemplating it for a moment before she headed to the inner cavern.
"Xenon? It’s me, Veah..." Neveah called out.
She waited another moment for a response and when it did not come, Neveah ventured into the tunnel leading to the inner cavern.
The tunnel was dark, the only rays of light seeping in came from the outer cavern and so the deeper into the tunnel Neveah went, the light grew faint and soon Neveah was left in pitch darkness.
Neveah’s eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness till she picked up the sign of light not far ahead and soon emerged into another cavern.
This cavern was much smaller than Xenon’s outer cavern, there were many shelves arranged neatly in the cavern and Neveah was surprised to see there was a place like this in Xenon’s cave.
Neveah spared a glance around for a moment, there were many scrolls arranged on the shelves, there were also a good number of books.
"Ah... I see someone was a bookworm once..." Neveah murmured to herself, her lips twitching slightly.
As Neveah continued forwards, she did not watch her path and she kicked an item in the way, drawing her attention down to a rolled up scroll on the ground.
Neveah’s brow curled up curiously as she glanced around to find everything else was in place but that scroll itself.
Neveah leaned down, picking it up, the scroll unfolded itself before Neveah could get a firm grip on it, to reveal an exquisitely done painting of a beautiful black haired woman with baby blue eyes and a bright smile.
For a moment, Neveah just stared at the painting with wide eyes, her awe lay in just how realistic the painting appeared, o much that it seemed as though the black haired woman stared back at Neveah.
Neveah blinked, completely astonished by the painting before she shook off her surprise.
"Such a precious painting, he shouldn’t keep it lying around so carelessly. It would be ruined if I stepped on it." Neveah murmured to herself, shaking her head at Xenon’s carelessness.
Neveah did not think to wonder who the woman in the painting was, the woman was beautiful, a warm kind of beauty that was more soothing than striking.
Other than the black hair, there were no features shared between Xenon and the woman, but that was just it and Neveah did not bother to make any assumptions.
As Neveah rose up to her feet and considered where to place the painting, she glanced around the shelves before shaking her head slightly.
"There should be an order to this, I will just ask him to restore it to it’s place when I see him." Neveah decided as she continued forwards, making her way across the inner cavern to the exit on the other side.
Neveah stepped out of the cavern into a windy terrain, her eyes widening slightly when she realized this was an entirely different part of mount Edar which she had never seen before.
Neveah did not have the time to take in the breathtaking view from so high up,
A barely audible growl reached Neveah’s ears and she immediately turned in the direction,
Neveah had heard Xenon’s growl so many times that she could now easily recognize it.
"Xenon?" Neveah called, heading into the sparse woods some distance from the cave exit.
Neveah ventured into the woods, glancing around, she was grateful it was not completely dark yet, that was the only way she would dare navigate through this steep mountain at this time.
Neveah trailed Xenon’s scent, following it closely in the direction the growling sound had come from.
Xenon’s scent trail took Neveah a good distance away from the cave and led her deeper into the woods till she arrived at a clearing.
There in the clearing, kneeling beside a rock, his hand rested on it as though for support was Xenon, his back was faced to Neveah and his robes were splayed out behind him.
Neveah breathed a sigh of relief as she set eyes on Xenon and she quickly made her way over to him,
Halfway to Xenon, a warning growl rumbled out of him, a growl that had Neveah pausing in her step.
