Chapter 132: Interrogation (Ch.132)

Neveah swallowed down the hiss of pain threatening to bubble out of her throat, her expression remaining unchanged.

For a moment, Lord Decaron paused, raising a brow as he stared up at Neveah.

Neveah guessed even the dragons did not know exactly how silver affected wolves since both races barely had any interactions.

Lord Decaron proceeded to clasp the second cuff in place and then the one around Neveah’s neck followed soon after.

The touch of silver against the tender skin of Neveah’s neck was a kind Neveah could not quite describe,

As high as Neveah’s threshold was, Neveah still was not impervious to pain completely, tears sprung to her eyes but Neveah was quick to blink them away,

Neveah would never give the dragons the satisfaction of seeing her pain, there was a depraved sense of satisfaction derived when the one a predator intended to cause pain actually displayed the effect,

Neveah had learnt enough from Alessio to know that each wince, each shuddering breath only delighted him more,

It was easy to understand from then on that if she could save a little dignity for herself, it would be hiding her pain so no one could see it.

As Lord Decaron stepped aside, Neveah walked out of the cell to find Menarx standing outside, his back faced to her.

Menarx turned slowly, his gaze first settled on the silver cuff around Neveah’s neck and his brows twitched slightly.

At this point, Neveah was certain the parts around her neck closest to the silver cuffs were red and raw and the sizzling sound had not reduced in the slightest as the silver burned in deeper to her skin.

"This..." Menarx began to say but Neveah kept walking and walked past Menarx, keeping her gaze straight ahead.

Menarx said nothing more and followed quietly behind Neveah till they arrived at the stairwell leading up from the dungeon.

They ascended the stairs to an empty hallway and Menarx led the way to the ascending room, Lord Decaron trailed behind them and they three got into the ascending room.

Lord Decaron set the ascending room in motion for the third level and the metal mechanism lurched upwards at a steady motion,

Not too long after, they arrived and stepped out of the ascending room and Menarx led the way to a hall that was guarded by two dragon guards.

The guards opened the doors and Menarx stepped in first, Neveah following after him with Lord Decaron behind her.

Within the hall, there were only three occupants. Lords Everon, Imagor, and King Jian himself.

With the arrival of Neveah, Lord Decaron and Menarx... there were now five dragons and one Neveah.

Naturally, all eyes were fixed on Neveah but King Jian whose back was faced to her.

Neveah ignored their gazes, she did not acknowledge anyone but simply remained standing, waiting for the dragons to speak first.

There was a chair set at the center of the hall, it looked to be an audience hall of some sort with elegant seating arrangements by the sides and a throne rested on a platform.

"Seat." Menarx gestured to the chair set in the middle where Neveah would be under the scrutiny of all within the hall.

"Forego the courtesy, I’m fine to stand." Neveah dismissed Menarx with a blank tone.

"Neveah..." Menarx warned, passing a wary glance to King Jian who still remained still without turning back.

"Do as you are told Neveah, this is not the right time to act stubborn." Lord Everon spoke up from where he stood.

Neveah did not even pass him a glance, amongst everyone within the Dragon Keep, other than Xenon and Davina,

Neveah had associated with Lord Everon the most, though she was well aware he did not know her well enough, to think she would steal from him was far too insulting.

Slowly, King Jian turned, his expression as cold as it always was, he regarded Neveah quietly for a moment.

"Seat...now." King Jian ordered in a chilling cold tone.

The aura of dominance he exuded and the imposing tone he spoke with had Neveah’s wolf tugging restlessly at her consciousness.

Neveah pursed her lips slightly, her gaze narrowing into a frown before she lowered herself to seat, somehow, she just knew she had to comply with King Jian’s orders.

King Jian watched Neveah as she obeyed quietly, though her brows twitched and the dark look in her eyes reflected her displeasure.

"A night ago, on our Liege’s summons, Lord Everon left the healer hall and reported to the highest level, leaving you within his study."

"Lord Menarx also bears witness to it. On the next morning, the molt scales stored within Lord Everon’s compartment had disappeared."

" In this duration of time, you are the only confirmed presence known to have entered and left Lord Everon’s study without supervision." Lord Decaron began.

"Where is it?!" Lord Imagor demanded immediately after, his eyes blazing with fury.

Neveah raised a single brow, leaning back against the chair. The silver cuff around her neck pressed into her already sore flesh but she paid it no attention.

"Molt scales... what is that supposed to be? A herb?" Neveah asked casually.

"Do not play innocent! You know exactly what it is!" Lord Imagor snarled and Neveah passed him a glance.

"You speak for me now, My Lord? Then come seat in this chair and give the testimony instead...you clearly know better than I do all that happened." Neveah said in a blank tone.

"Just give me her head!" Lord Imagor raged, storming over to Neveah but his path was blocked by Menarx.

"If the dragons wish to lay accusations on me, then provide evidence."

"Evidence that I, Neveah Omega Lothaire has come in contact with molt scales and taken it for myself with intent to harm whoever will be harmed for it..." Neveah said in a dark tone.

"If you can provide convincing evidence, then I have nothing else to say... but if you must accuse me based on speculations with the mere reason that I was the only one present..."

"Then I must say, the law... the justice system and the dragons of this Asvarian stronghold...are all just a big joke." Neveah finished.
