Oh No, Daddy Sent Me To The Beast World!-Chapter 18: We all thought you were dead, princess, since you ran away again
The road back into the tribe should have felt simple, because Lin Huahua had just succeeded at something that made her feel proud.
Since she had spices in the basket and she had not accidentally poisoned herself, which already counted as a miracle for a princess who used to be served ice cream with both hands like it was a sacred ritual.
However, the moment the tribe entrance came into view, Lin Huahua’s rat ears twitched, because she could feel the atmosphere before she could even hear the words.
The air was thick with whispers, and the tribe people were gathered in little clusters like curious birds, their heads turning in the same direction as if someone had dropped a fresh scandal right in the middle of the street.
Lin Huahua noticed that a lot of them were staring at her, but they were not staring the way people stared at a princess with admiration, because their eyes looked more like they were trying to confirm whether she had truly gone insane.
Some of them looked excited like they wanted to watch a show. Some of them looked skeptical like they refused to believe anything good could ever happen in this tribe. Some of them looked uncomfortable because they remembered too well how the old Lin Huahua used to treat her mates.
Lin Huahua was not blind, and she was also not stupid, even if everyone liked calling her that, so she understood instantly what the crowd was thinking.
They heard rumors that I claimed my males, and now they want to see if I will bite someone’s head off again, she thought, and the realization made her feel slightly annoyed, because she did not enjoy being treated like a walking disaster.
Beside her, Feng Yiren held the basket with one hand, and even though he kept his expression calm like he did not care about the attention, his fox ears kept twitching sharply, because he was listening to everything.
Every whisper, every snicker, every muttered insult, every curious breath.
Fox beastmen were naturally sharp, and Feng Yiren was not just sharp, he was the kind of fox that liked being smug, so he could never tolerate people speaking nonsense behind him as if he could not hear.
Lin Huahua glanced up at him and noticed the way his tail flicked behind him, because it kept swaying like it was irritated by invisible bugs.
So this fox is acting like he is bored, but his whole body is screaming that he is guarding me, Lin Huahua thought, and that realization warmed her slightly, because at least he knew how to be protective when it mattered.
Then the crowd suddenly parted, and a voice slid into the air with the kind of sweetness that always meant poison.
"Eh, you are still alive, princess?"
Lin Huahua froze for a fraction of a second, because the voice sounded too familiar, and the irritation that rose in her chest felt like meeting an old enemy in a new life.
Her rat ears stood straight, her tail stiffened, and her eyes narrowed slowly as she turned her head.
Su Yanrong.
The rival female who had pestered her even before she entered this simulation, and the female who had always followed her like a shadow, smiling sweetly while quietly pushing her toward harm.
In Lin Huahua’s simulation world, Su Yanrong never openly attacked her, but she was venomous in the way she planted ideas, whispered poison, and manipulated other people into doing the dirty work.
This was the female who had helped the placeholder Lin Huahua spiral, this was the female who had schemed behind the scenes, and this was the female who had always looked at Lin Huahua’s life with envy so thick it could choke a beast.
Now, in the beast world, Su Yanrong looked even more fitting, because her beast traits matched her soul.
She was a vulture female, and it showed in every part of her.
Her nose curved like a beak. Her teeth looked uneven when she smiled, making her grin ugly in a way that felt deliberate, like she enjoyed looking unpleasant.
Her stomach was flabby, her chest drooped loosely, and her eyes carried that scavenger hunger that made Lin Huahua feel like Su Yanrong was always searching for weakness to peck at.
Even her posture looked like a vulture ready to swoop down, because her shoulders were slightly raised and her arms moved like they wanted to spread wings.
What made Lin Huahua even more disgusted was not her appearance, but her greed.
Su Yanrong already had males.
Not a small number either.
Lin Huahua’s eyes flicked behind her and she saw at least ten males who had already mated with Su Yanrong, plus more hanging around with that desperate look of males who hoped they could get a female to accept them, even if it meant lowering their pride.
Those males surrounded Su Yanrong protectively, and the moment they saw Feng Yiren, their gazes turned sharp and jealous, because they all understood the same thing.
Their female was staring at another male again.
Their female was still hungry and she still wanted something better.
Su Yanrong’s males did not like it, but they could not stop her, because in a tribe where females were rare, males tended to tolerate too much, even when their hearts burned.
Su Yanrong stepped forward with fake sweetness, and she tried to look innocent.
"It is really shocking," Su Yanrong continued, her voice carrying false concern. "We all thought you were dead, princess, since you ran away again."
Lin Huahua’s eyes narrowed further, because she knew those words were not concern, they were insult.
In any normal situation, speaking to the tribe princess like that would be a serious crime.
However, Su Yanrong felt bold enough because she had always gotten away with it.
In the past, Su Yanrong bullied the original Lin Huahua openly, because she had Wei Ranshu behind her like a shield.
That peacock male was proud, cold, and manipulative, and he knew that the original Lin Huahua was obsessed with him, so whenever Lin Huahua tried to punish Su Yanrong, Wei Ranshu would threaten to reject her or ignore her, and the original Lin Huahua would panic and swallow her pride like a fool.
That was why Su Yanrong still believed she could talk however she wanted.
