"So this is where you were hiding?" Kai Lu said with a casual tone.
His hand was still wrapped around Chloe’s neck, as he escorted her and Jenna out the house.
"You even managed to take down the big guy," he added playfully.
With Chloe as his hostage Jenna was left with no other choice but to follow his wishes.
’How is he even still alive,’ she wondered, gritting her teeth. ’I’m sure my blade went deep enough, or did I miss his heart?’
Even if that was the case, a normal person wouldn’t survive something like that.
’But I’m forgetting that this man isn’t a normal person... it must be because of that cookie’
She couldn’t forget what she had witnessed that day with her own eyes, and because of that, as a precaution she even took a bite from the halve Yohan had left with her, before coming inside the mansion.
’I’m glad I did that, Yohan looks like he just finished a difficult fight so he would need my help if he wants to get Chloe out of here unharmed... I’ll have to help him’
Her eyes met with Yohan’s and in that moment she felt something she couldn’t understand. It was similar to what she felt for Izumi but yet very different.
A small smile appeared on her face.
He looked a bit roughed up but didn’t look like he was in any actual trouble, she felt a bit of relief even in this situation.
Kai Lu walked a bit further and picked up one of the stick biscuits that had fallen out of Buck’s possession earlier.
"I guess he wasn’t as strong as I thought he was," he shrugged, sticking it in his pocket.
"Kai Lu where have you been, did you receive my message?" The Chairman asked.
"What message?" Kai Lu replied, glancing at the car suspiciously "and where did you think you were going without me?"
"N-No where" the chairman chuckled nervously. "We were just coming down to wait for you"
Everywhere Kai Lu moved around, he made sure to keep Chloe close by. It was obvious that he was trying to use her to keep everyone from making a single move.
And it was very effective on Yohan, he was caught in his step, unable to move an inch since they stepped out of the mansion.
Suddenly the cold night felt even more cold.
’I’m going to KILL THAT FUCKER!!!’
The veins in his head popped but yet he refused to make a move.
’Calm down... all I need to do is wait for the opportunity, with my Meridian Tell I can predict his movements, the moment he steps within my range I’ll look for an opening and separate him from her’
It seemed like his chance was just about to present itself as Kai Lu began walking in his direction.
"How did you even find this place?" He asked Yohan, stopping just a bit out of his reach. "You’re one sneaky rat"
Yohan’s brow furrowed,
’He’s standing so close, maybe I can just...’
"Take one step and I’ll snap her neck like a biscuit," His hand was back around her neck.
Yohan paused.
"Kai Lu, what are you doing?" Freddie’s uncle stepped forward, pulling his attention "the cops are on their way here right now, we don’t have any time to waste,"
"The cops?" His eyes widened slightly.
"They must have called them earlier. We have to evacuate the Executives right now and get out of here," The Chairman said urgently.
"Wait," Kai Lu replied, "I want to have a word with my good friend before we leave,"
"There’s no ti—"
Kai Lu shot him only a glance and the words froze on his tongue.
"I only need a minute," he said calmly, turning back to Yohan.
All this while Jenna had maintained a relatively close status to the two, always standing a few feet away from Kai Lu and Chloe.
He held her knife in one hand so in a way she was also being threatened, that was also why she hesitated to make a move.
But now with the Chairman’s brief distraction Kai Lu actually loosened his hold on Chloe a little. It wasn’t much, just barely, for Yohan it probably wouldn’t even be noticeable, only her.
She didn’t allow herself time to think. If she hesitated even for a second, the chance would vanish.
’Now’
She moved before anyone could react, grabbing the hand wrapped around Chloe’s neck. The motion was fast, desperate, reckless—but it worked.
Chloe was free.
"Chloe, run!" she screamed.
For a split second, Chloe staggered, her legs unsteady as her body tried to remember how to stand on its own again. Then instinct took over, and she sprinted toward Yohan.
Jenna turned to follow—
—but Kai Lu’s hand shot out and tangled in her hair.
"Where do you think you’re going?" he hissed.
He yanked her backward, brutal and merciless, and before anyone could stop him, the knife flashed.
It plunged into the side of her neck.
"No!!!" Yohan screamed, blowing past Chloe as he dove forward—
He slammed into Kai Lu sending them both to the ground.
The world seemed to slow as Yohan crashed into Kai Lu, the two bodies hitting the pavement hard enough to send shockwaves through the concrete.
Yohan’s fist connected with Kai Lu’s jaw before they’d even stopped rolling—once, twice, three times in rapid succession. Blood sprayed from Kai Lu’s mouth, but that infuriating smile never left his face.
"There it is," Kai Lu laughed through broken teeth. "Finally doing something—"
Yohan didn’t let him finish. His hands found Kai Lu’s throat and squeezed.
Behind them, Chloe had dropped to her knees beside Jenna, her hands trembling as they hovered over the wound.
Blood pulsed between her fingers as she pressed down on Jenna’s neck.
"No no no no—" Chloe’s voice cracked. "Jenna, stay with me! JENNA!"
Jenna’s eyes were wide, unfocused. Her mouth moved but only a wet gurgling sound came out. Her hand reached up weakly, finding Chloe’s, and squeezed once before going limp.
"SOMEBODY HELP HER!" Chloe screamed, tears streaming down her face.
Freddie stood frozen by the car, his face pale. The Chairman had already started backing away toward the vehicle.
Yohan felt none of it. His entire world had narrowed to the man beneath him—the man who he was definitely going to kill.
